[this is a poem from a birthday card i made for my girlfriend. if you like it, i don't care. if you don't like it, i don't care. i just wanted to post it -- chances are i won't be checking back on this thread]
time is a journey through emptiness
and through the lives we live
time's a companion through our sorrows and tears
and the happiness it gives
and when the shadows stretch the sundial
and my own time is through
i won't regret the time i had
because it gave me you
if i had the time to watch you learn
and watch you grow with me
i'd care for you with all my heart
and plant for us a tree
and when the time was done with us
and others took our place
and the world moved past
and turned too fast
to see your loving face
i'd lay you down beneath our tree
and kiss you one last time
then wrap myself in your embrace
and fold your hands in mine
and if our tree should grow old and die
for fleeting is all youth
and if no lovers beneath it lie
or know it's secret truth
and if no children climb it's trunk
and eat it's sweetest fruits
and if no traveler takes it's shade
to remove his dusty boots
and even if it's flowers wilt
leaving only stump behind
and if our bones should turn to dust
that nobody could find
you'll still be in my arms marisa
you'll still be in my heart
you'll still be safe from pain and harm
for time will not us part
and when the sun forgets to shine
and when the shadows flee
time will remember my love for you
and the love you had for me.
