Please share your time-killing techniques in general, but I thought this could be a good idea as ColourfulKronos brought the topic up in Gibberings, and I know we've a great deal of peeps who suffer from Insomnia.
So - Bring the love! <3~:)~<3
And ideas, ofcourse ;)

David Attenborough documentaries. Watched fucking loads of episodes of Planet Earth etc in a row during nights when I can't sleep. Tonight's going to be one of them, I had "breakfast" at about 5pm. Thinking about dinner soon, just can't be arsed moving.

I'm off work all week so my sleeping pattern is going to revert to the way I like it - up all night (sometimes two, even without drugs) then have a big power snooze during the day at some point. Got fuck all planned until Friday, just gonna roll about the house in trackies, get a smoke, watch films/TV & blast music. Go to sleep when I'm tired, regardless of the time, instead of when I'm supposed to. Yas!

I try to slip into a deliberate day dream type mode if I can't sleep, almost think of watching a film made up in your head and just let it flow. I find that this then gets me dropping off and the conciousness of my 'mind dream' becomes subconscious and into a real dream.

Works for me anyway....

I find having a job that I have to be up for at 4-45 works fucking wonders !

I am of corse joking , and making light of somthing that must be really shitty to suffer from, I hope you can help each other out with some ideas to Make life/nights easier !'

Love the thread, I get two weekly insomnia, I sleep when I take far more meds than I'm supposed to bet thTs just dangerous!

Some things I do when I really can't sleep, I realise quite early on that I'm not gonna be sleeping that night, so I mentally prepared for it, is say to myself "you're not gonna sleep tonight, so stop trying and stop getting stressed about it!"

As for things to do, it's normally watch shit films on tv, or play RPGs like monsta has mentioned, skyrim is a good one, pick that up and it will be light on no time!

I understand books expsensive or even free if you join your local library! :)

I love to be able to make things easy for you CK but thats not easy in it's self!

the worst part of insomnia for me is when your tossing and turning and you just cant get comfortable or nod off! Thats terrible for my mental health, that's why fore it's best to get lit of bed and find something to do!

So to summarise, join the library, play RPGs accept the rack you not gonna sleep that night early on! :)

How many nights do you go without sleeping properly, I do a bout 3 to 4 nights quite regulary and feel like shit afterward, psychosis starts to creep in!

I'm sorry you going through this CK, I know you won't but I'm always here to pm :) take care mate, also congrats if you can get on the sub ;)

This!

I've given up trying to sleep if I can't. I've been suffering with insomnia a lot recently since changing a habitual drug pattern. So yeah, just lying there not thinking about getting to sleep, which just frustrates the brain and makes it even harder, I've started to do, I've actually found the ability to think about nothing, or just sets or random images until before I know it i'm asleep. I must be a lot less stressed these days.

I dunno its pretty hard to keep track with the days that iv slept or not haha, they kinda blur into one. no joy tonght just been reading most of the night, thnk i got an hour or 2 yesterday but yeah walked to my brothers & got lost on the way back tnight so that killed some time. benzos havnt had an effect on sleep for a years, just sat waiting for the drs call about matinence. Im putting too much hope on the subs i know it but fuck it

Aye i guess a routine's essential, job prospects aint good though so once i have the opis off my mind i need some hobbies! Keep telling myself il go for a jog in the morning for the last year haha Love the david attenborough idea though, shit when im at the end of my rope il pay the guy to read me bedtime stories like a kid, nowt like a soothing voice to conk out to. got planet earth and some others on my HD though they & 24 used to be reserved for k sessions ha, il give that a shot!
Tried the daydreaming thing quite a bit recently, but atm its just stress and drugs that creep into my thoughts till im reaching for a stash

Fuck it, ima go for that jog now (only took a year), what doesnt kill you.. bet its fuckin freezing
Keep em coming! Il try almost anything

audiobooks!
being a relentless insomniac, i used to often read to the point where my eyes were too tired, but upon lying down, still couldn't get off. After lying there for a bit wishing i'd used the time to read more (particularly if its a good book)i'd be reluctant to sit up and start reading again, because the whole light on open book thing would wake me up. then i tried audiobooks.
get a good one, reaad by someone with a very soothing voice and they are excellent.
personally i can lie there, and i don't care when i get to sleep too much because the story is nice to listen to.
once i've relinquished the concern about going to sleep, thats half the battle, i can relax and often drop off quickly/quicker.

great time killer and boredom beater is the firefox plug in "stumble upon".
tailored to your specific interests, and adjusting to your likes and dislikes, it provides and endless array of interesting websites that you would never have found otherwise. games, info, history, art, whatever. highly recommend!

I have been suffering from Insomnia recently. Driving me crazy. In fact I had to leave work a lunch time yesterday as I had not slept since Sunday morning.

Ive had episodes of insomnia over the past few years and I dont handle it very well. I get agitated, stressed, clock watch, toss and turn.

I decided to pour myself a very large jim beam at 3am a couple of weeks ago- I was sleeping within 5 minutes of hitting the pillow. I have also used drowsey allergy pills in the past. However, I dont consider any of these methods a long term solution.

I reckon recently my sleeping patter has been fucked because of my weekend activities. Last weekend I was up at 6am Friday morning for work and didnt go to bed 5am Saturday morning. Got up about 11am and slept on the beach for a few hours only to do the something Saturday into Sunday morning. Its no surprise Im fucked come Sudnay night sleeping time and 6am rise for Mondays work.

Not like the old days when I was supposed to be at uni and just thought who gives a fuck if I turn up or not on a Monday.

It's books for me, and not ones that are too gripping. I really try to minimise sensory overload which means low lights, quiet, no laptop, BL or TV. Easier said than done but if i can manage that i usually feel a bit more rested the next day.

Its all fine and well not getting stressed about it in the middle of the night but for me its the working days in-between that are the killer. Insomnia is shit.

As mentioned above, audiobooks have become friends of late. Surpassed only by physics lectures on PooTube. They are literally the shit. Without the literal bit (most nights). Learn stuff that's a bit dull to actually watch due to lack of pics whilst turning yet without desire of tossing. Win <3

Really does work for me anyway. Can take up to a week for me to get through one in toto sometimes. One or two I've just given up on although they served the cause corkingly.

Tis an odd mix of being really interested yet also really drowned in dozy dronings yet all being well with both.

Example I'm still working on.

That aside, a wank rarely hurts :D

David Attenborough documentaries the man has got me through some very tough times and has one of those voices that is easy and calming to listen too.

audio boos are very good also i find pop in the head phones close your eyes and away you go cracking stuff

Started writing my life story/ramblings last night to kill time, shouldnt take long since i'm just a kid, Killed a few of those rough hours though. Still so knckered i'm not really thinking properly, was planning to tattoo my scrotum which doesnt seem such a good idea now i've slept a few Though i'm still considering it =D
Audiobooks are indeed ace used them since i was a kid on tapes (always had trouble sleeping), which worked best, the cd's always skipped and this laptops too noisy to try and kip with stuff on. Plus i've grown immune to stephen frys voice

I made the mistake of using A Scanner Darkly as the audiobook to go to sleep from, not the best idea.

Opening paragraph:

"Once a guy stood all day shaking bugs from his hair. The doctor told him there were no bugs in his hair. After he had taken a shower for eight hours, standing under hot water hour after hour suffering the pain of the bugs, he got out and dried himself, and he still had bugs in his hair; in fact, he had bugs all over him. A month later he had bugs in his lungs.

Having nothing else to do or think about, he began to work out theoretically the life cycle of the bugs, and, with the aid of the _Britannica_, try to determine specifically which bugs they were. They now filled his house. He read about many different kinds and finally noticed bugs outdoors, so he concluded they were aphids. After that decision came to his mind it never changed, no matter what other people told him . . . like "Aphids don't bite people.""

If one can, it's brilliant as it floods your brain with endorphins and oxytocin, both of which have the effect of making you chilled out and dreamy. You also get endorphin release from exercise (make sure you have a decent walk before going to bed) or my preferred choice, chillies (the stuff that makes chillies burn, capsacin, causes a shitload of endorphins to flood your brain, so have a cheese toastie with lots of chilli on top and it's so much easier to go to sleep)

Bre warned though, some of these are mutually exclusive - make a chilli cheese toastie, then when in bed, decide to have a wank and you run the risk of chilli willy; get that and sleep will be a million miles away! =D
