Time Dilation

By time dilation I mean where our perception of time becomes totally whacked

I've experienced this a few times, mainly on DXM. Minutes and hours would appear to stretch into days, even weeks. I would come out of the 6 hour trip and it would seriously feel like a week had passed. Even once having experiencing timelessness...eternity or so it felt like.

I was just curious to what extent others have experienced it to? and on what drug? Or perhaps which drug causes it the most/strongest?

I know, this has hapend to me before, with weed and with dxm, combined or alone. With DXM alone it seems to take up like your whole day and you gradualy become sober by the half of the day. Alcohol seems to make time go faster to me. I tjust makes you lost and you have no idea what's going on. I think DXM/weed has the strongest together.

DXM & LSD do this, definitely... I have this distinct memory of looking at my clock on one of my first acid trips, and it said 12:20. I wrote it down on a piece of paper. I looked back at it after what seemed like maybe 15 minutes, and it said 12:22... 8( Pretty insane! :D

Also, one time on a nitrous binge, I sucked down four bulbs at once. During the time I was inhaling the second balloon-full (2 bulbs per balloon), for a split second I lapsed into this place where time had no meaning! I was snapped out of it when my friend said something along the lines of, "Inhale the rest! You're wasting it!" Apparently, mid-inhalation, I was sucked into this other dimension -- the balloon slipped off of my lips, and I 'woke up' before all the nitrous escaped from the balloon... it felt like I had been there for an ETERNITY! 8o Took me a few moments to sort things out after that one.

So those are my two weirdest time dilation stories...

An old buddy told me when he did crystal meth, 24 hours felt like 20 minutes....lol.

I have felt it loads on mushrooms, particularly at high doses. When i experienced a +4 trip, a few minutes felt like eternity. For me this is probably the weirdest single aspect of tripping - it just amazes me how fast my mental dialogue can run and how much experience my mind can cram into a few minutes.

I have also felt it to a much lesser degree on Salvia. Opiates do it to me too, but again to a much lesser degree. Nodding on opiates is very weird in that time seems both quicker and slow at the same time, hard to describe.

Yeah, when doing meth time flies by. No joke, you start a binge, 3 days goes by and it feels like only a couple of hours... Tops.

i seem to experience both extremes with mushrooms.
time dilating so wide that even movement seems particularly slow yet i also experience time speeding up. in the motion of clouds, in the geometry of nature, insects moving in pattern, leaves spiraling, the ground seeming to sweep about with the movement of liquid.

i became the most aware of how the experience not only dilates time but also constricts it one day while watching a time lapse video of clouds in the sky. the clouds in the video looked exactly the way i had experienced the clouds in "real" time on psychedelics, particularly mushrooms.

just thought i'd share. i've been away from the board for too long.
hi =)

This effect has been most noticeable with LSD for me. In one particular instance, namely one of my first ventures into somewhat higher doses, things were starting to get pretty zany early on in the trip. I just felt like I was totally losing control, and that filled me with terror. So I spent a short while just pacing around and checking the clock constantly, hoping it would all come to an end sooner rather than later. Unfortunately for me, whereas I had the idea that more than half an hour had passed between each time I checked, it had really only been a couple minutes.

Let's just say that I'm so glad that I finally talked myself out of that hell and got back to just riding the experience. Because it definitely felt like hell.

And that's my story. :)

I thought and have experienced time dilation with every psychedelic. But the strongest is with Mushrooms and LSD+Nitrous Oxide.

I find time dilation to be most extreme with mushrooms.

"dude its only been one hour! ... man what even is an hour"

i also got really strange time dilation on DXM. sometimes, towards the end of the experience, i had completely forgotten what it was like to be normal, and the concept seemed so foreign. it was almost like the experience lasted for so long that it became my reality, even though they were like 6 hours long at most.

ecstasy makes time fly by, however I do experience some time dilation from cocaine, which seems like a bit of a paradox.

The only time I've ever had serious time dilation is when it felt like I'd been brushing my teeth for an hour and it was 2 minutes. That was while stoned.

On mescaline time stopped. I wanted to stay in that moment forever. It was an exquisitely beautiful experience.

In my experience, tryptamines generally produce a stronger time dilation than comparable doses of phenethylamines. I also think that the intensity of time dilation correlates with the intensity of "mindfuck" and other cognitive (but NOT perceptual) alterations, which is consistent with my observations on tryptamines vs. phenethylamines.

High doses of LSD or 4-XO-tryptamines have produced the most notable and consistent time dilation among my psychedelic experiences.

^^^That's time compression. It's a commonly reported effect from MD-class compounds as well as dopaminergic stimulants. Time dilation is when 15 minutes seems like several hours, not the other way around.
