Thw wonderful and organic psilocybe semilanceata

i tried to get some during the season; it had rained the night before and i spent hours pottering around a cow field with no luck

hopefully next year... ive never tried liberty caps

Golf courses and sheep fields tend to be the best hunting grounds. They even grow in back gardens in towns/cities if you're really lucky. I live in the arse end of nowhere (rural Wales) so they're somewhat ubiquitous.

These dont grow in cow manure or any manure of any kind, If you live up north in fall is the best season to look for them. Grassy feilds where sheep graze are the best spot to look for them. Last fall i picked about 3000 in 1 day and i was very luckyy. has anyone ever tried any other muchrooms because liberty caps are the most common and different mushrooms tend to give you different trips. :)

Aye. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest of the USA and these were always my favorite, even amongst such sundries as Ps. cyanescens, azurescens, baeocystis, etc. Liberty caps are deceptively potent by weight (they vie with the strongest) and the "high" they produce is top notch.. .very giggly, visual, light hearted and magic. Maybe its the power of suggestion from the shape of that silly little cap but Semilanceata always reek of elves and those leather shoes that curl up at the end. Good times!! 2 grams of Liberty Caps in a tea is a delicious night in.........

They have a goodly amount of psilocybin (>1% dry weight), usually just traces of psilocin, and a disproportionate amount of baeocystin (.2 - .40% dry weight)...How this contributes to the high is anybodies guess, as the activity of baeocystin is still a relative mystery (Ott says yes?) and the only species with a comparable amount (Ps. azurescens) has a ridiculous amount of psilocin and "feels" completely different. Who knows....

ps- picturing them growing about the Welsh countryside adds another dimension to their mystique and charm :)

Hehe. They even grow in rings too sometimes =D

Have mostly used Libbies but had a few varieties of Cubes too. Think I probably prefer Libbies but possibly just cos they're the default mushroom in the UK and cost nowt. Picking several thousands of a misty morn is not too hard to do in the right areas - we used to come back with carrier bags full some days :D

^^^^ Yep, same around where I grew up. The misty morning is critical to the mysitique I'm gonna venture. They loved the soggy fields that line the two lane roads and on an early morning you could see loads of determined pickers hunched over through the fog....the "Psilocybe" stoop as its known :) Sometime the quantities after a good period of rain were staggering.....they looked like a miniature army of elves marching off to battle!

Cheers

Bwahahahahaha! Guess that Psilo Stoop is a worldwide phenomenon then :D

Mist is definitely a bonus to get the full picking experience. Sure the lil shroomies enjoy it too but there's something magical seeing dedicated druggies fade in and out of the mist all with That posture going on =D

There's also the slight element of danger with the potential of a pissed off farmer chasing you off his land with a shotgun. All part of the experience :)

Lol. So nobody would like to share a trip report? lmao thats what this thread is about, but threads usually get carried away in other conversations. :)

^^^ Yup yup. My favorite is the hallucinations that come after a morning of picking (and the obligatory cup of tea, of course!) That ubiquitous phenom of the brain playing back loops of what you have been looking at all morn.....I just sit there with my eyes closes, replaying the little mushrooms poking out thru the grass and mist, and the pickers in and amongst them. And then it starts to fractalize, and finally it all makes sense: The building blocks of the universe are liberty caps! I knew it......;)

^^ Trip reports tend to go in the Trip Report forum, Dutch ;)

A brief summary of my first ever mushroom trip (on Libbies, naturally) would be playing some obscure PS1 game about giant robots - one of the power ups was a giant capsule that made the graphics go all multicoloured and psychedelically swirlsome. Had us in stitches. We also listened to this album back to back all night which had similar side-splitting effects. My ribs were sore for days afterwards. Gotta <3 a lil Libby 'n' laughter <3

Only downside with Libbies is the tea tends to taste of mud. And possibly sheep shit. It's well worth it though =D

OTHER Ps. pelliculosa is actually a separatespecies, but the two are indistinguishable to the naked eye. It growsin sawdust or wood chip piles in forests where lumberjacks have beenworking. The two can be distinguished by spore size, with Ps.pelliculosa spores being smaller at 9-13 x 5-7 x 5-7 micrometers. Ps.pelli. is also weaker in potency, having only 1.2-7.1 mg/g and0.0-0.5 mg/g psilocybin and baeocystin respectively.
Ps. semil. contains more baeocystin than most other Psilocybes, which may account for the subjective difference in quality.

Just for any new pickers. Dont want anybody picking a Lbm lookalike haha acctually happened to my brother.. way back when

Once you get ya eye in you see them everywhere - almost impossible to miss even though there are other mushies that look fairly similar. For some reason they look totally unique once you find your first one. The lookalikes are non-toxic, fortunately. At least in the UK.

Oh alright thats where i leraned when i was new to mushrooms i reccomend it to anyone who is interested in learning alot about growning, picking, or even just learning about any sort of mushrooms to just go there and take a look around.
