I wasn't sure where to post this so I figured this forum might be alright. I'm interested in throwing a party, a rave, so-to-speak. I'm curious what input you all have regarding what it takes to throw a legal, permitted party. I'm already assuming it's a rather costly choice, just wondering what all it takes to be able to throw a rave, a legal one. I honestly don't know the first thing about any of this, just have some friends with some equipment and a decent bunch of DJs, and we would like to know what we need to know as far as getting permits and what-not is concerned. Any input you guys have would be greatly appreciated. And before you tell me how hard it is to throw a legal event, I already know it will be very tough, I'm just curious what it takes. So thanks in advance, and if this thread needs to be posted somewhere else, I apologize mods.

Talk to some people from the other event groups for the chicago rave scene. I'm friends with alot of the people in the scene that throw parties every few weekends. Most of the event groups have facebook pages. Check out vibetribe, mana collective, el cartel and soiccy. Its a very profitable business if you can do it right and not get shut down but there is also a chance to lose money.

Two Turn Tables/Two CDJ's/Mixer/Sound/Lighting

Hire one main Headline DJ(they cost the most) they usually bring the most people & than hire a bunch of local Dj's that spin at raves

Each other Dj spins for about 30 minutes to 1 hour each

Hire Security at least 4 dudes or Have Friends Do it for some party favors or money

Lots of bottles of water/Ice Pops/Cotton Candy Machine/Candy you can sell for a nice profit if they do not have a bar in the venue you choose, Because if they have a bar they usually wont take to nice to you selling food/drinks at the party

Can even Hire a couple a girl dancers if you want

Parties cost around 1 grand- 3 grand for small-medium size party

Also helps if you have a couple people "working for you" at the party so you can make that overhead as fast as possible you can charge around 10 dollars before 10pm 20 dollars after 10pm

Do you even have around 2-3grand to throw this party?

2-3 grand? your way off man cause thats what it would cost you just to get a decent known dj to play, to draw the crowd

to throw a legal party your lookin at 10k+, cause you need permits and insurance and security and if you can get a liqour license you need to buy alcohol, you need to rent the venue, you need to rent the lighting and sound systems if that venure isnt already equipped, you need money for promotions although social media would be the biggest promoter, printng up flyers to hand out at local bars and malls and clubs is needed,

thats just the beginning and everything mentioned costs money..

you go the illegal way wth out permits and it would cost you alot less but still gonna cost you cause bareminmum you need lighting and sound and water , you can have them byob and you can have a couple local no name djs but they are still gonna want money to spin( at least$100each plus drugs) but i dont know how many people are going to show up if they never heard of the djs..like your not gonna have people from allover the area coming to the show and plan their frday night when they dont know the djs and the venue..like people arent gonna spend $15-20 at the door for some bullshit party with only 100 people showing up and they cant buy alcohol and have to listen to some amateur djs they never heard of

personally i think your in way over your head cause you got no idea what your getting into
