Three Score & Five - Half-Passed Life

Aye. Tis a gorgeous part of the country, to be sure. Not so great to be stuck in those particular areas that still think the way to deal with "foreigners" in their town is to give them the torches, pitchforks and bonfire treatment though :\

well I've never had that one...(although my mate woke up to a foxes head being nailed to his front door a few years ago after he was unwise enough to hunt-sab round here)....and the town/village/iron-age settlement where I live is reputed to be rather feisty...and was until recently apparently the most welsh-speaking place in, er, Wales.

I just tell em if they want feisty then go and check out the village I lived in in the early 90's near Merthyr....even the Merthyr boys were scared to go there......this place is positively genteel in comparison
 
I actually had a group of locals come round one night threatening me with violence and promising they would "run me out of town" cos they don't like "my type" around here. Charmers they are :\

I also have a sneaky suspicion we may even live in the same town/village/Iron Age settlement from what you've said. Although there are probably plenty places round here that would fit that description...

I'm somewhat well-known (somewhat notorious even) in my hometown but don't socialise with anybody who lives here as such. More so in the past but a lotta people moved away and many of the locals still see me as "that weird English junky freak" that came in and dirtied their nice, clean town :\

and where I am has never been really clean I don't think....and the area is in fact, or certainly was at some point in the dim and distant, quite famous for it's chemists...
 
Yup. Chemists R Us round here. That lush MD crystal doing the rounds a year or two back in big golf-ball chunks was made round here, I believe. And there was all that Operation Julie biznizz in the 70s too, of course. Not that I saw any of that, mind.

Suspect we are likely in the same vicinity if perhaps not quite the same valley. Can't move for bloody valleys round here 8o
 
No idea about recent chemistry at all, was actually referring to historical business, ie Operation Julie!

And yeah, chemistry is still a big employer round these parts. Or at least it was right up until a few busts followed rapidly by the MD drought straight after. Are these events linked? Who knows... but I have a sneaky that they probably were :\
 
Shambles and Ageingpartyfiend

Think I'm a bit east of you 2, back towards the border. I know about life in small communities, and mostly manage to keep my head down. Like Shambles I've only been "here" a few years. Lived a fairly clean life through the 90s and got recorrupted by my mrs, who's told me about going to parties in places you mentioned. I'm guessing we've all got people in common.
Oh and I remember that crystal- so good and so cheap. But there's good stuff again, and the lean times helped me get my resistance back down.
 
Fuck me this thread is really depressing me. I left it alone for a while hoping it would flush out the real oldies here in EADD. So far it's full of people in their prime moaning about getting old ffs.

I did exactly the same though starting in my early 20's, I was convinced the best years were behind me. In my 30's I realised how stupid that idea was, because my 30's were really old. In my 40's I looked back at my 30's with sadness and an acceptance that they were the best prime years after all. Just as my Dad had said. Following some wonderful moments during my 40's and becoming a father again, I realise they were hard to beat too and contained some of the best hedonistic experiences of all. Now I've hit my half century, I'm still waiting for the party to stop. Against all expectations It's lasted 35 years so far. So what have I got to look forward to now I wonder? The same as I did in my 20's, 30's and 40's....the unknown.

So enjoy the moment folks. It's all we can do. If you're alive, healthy and happy, then live it. Just don't sit there in your prime worrying about hitting some age barrier like I did, because believe me, it keeps moving if you're lucky enough. We will all hit it sure, but It's our state of mind that determines how we hit it. I've known plenty of people hit it in their early 20's. People who loose the magic of life and settle down to the mundane. That's what scares me. Not getting old, but allowing myself to get old. If there is a wall to hit, I want to hit it at 100mph. I don't want to nudge gently into it and sit down with a cup of tea.

So fuck getting old. I'm not old. Just mature and experienced. Am I the most mature here on EADD? It would seem so sadly. I must admit, this thread has deflated me somewhat. Is my delusion finally fading? I think I need a sit down and a nice cup of tea. Look what this thread has done to me Shammy.

Oh, and hello there MOP my man. Missed you being around. I know all about those external ear hairs mate, tough little bastards aren't they? They're part of the ever increasing shaving route I have now. Along with the hairs on the bridge of my nose. Most of my shaving cuts now are on my nose or ears.

One bit of good news...I only have a few grey pubes, but I noticed one of them was grey at the tip, and black lower down! Yah! I was so excited that somehow I'd discovered the elixir of youth, but sadly it fell out the next day.

Also, I am not dismayed at getting on a bit now - rather the opposite. That "feeling more comfortable in your own skin" stuff is the biznizz :)

It's just the odd grey pube and the chronic farting that annoy really :D

The only thing I really do fret about somewhat is the lack of progeny thus far. Not that I'd have been fit to father yet but I have always had a hankering after a lil BabyShambles. Would've been nice to be around to see more of any possible offspring's way through life than I'd get to see now. Although I know there is still plenty of time for such things - my stepfather reproduced for the first time in his late 40s or early 50s and my lillest brother is almost 20 himself now and doing great. Nice to know there's still lifeforce available in the older dogs and their respective wrinkly and greying logs ;)

Flush 'em out. Come on, show yourselves, make me young again =D

A lot of this ageing thing is a state of mind sure, but it's also a lot to do with the company you keep. Most of my mates are in their 30's and so is my missus and I have a 10 year old daughter too. Being a stay-at-home/work-from-home Dad since she was 3 months old has been hard work, but kept me on my toes that's for sure. Sink or swim that one I can tell you. So far I'm making a good attempt at doggy paddle I would say, but it's worked so far. I guess I'm just waiting for the crash now :) But mate, you cannot deny the world a BabyShambles. That's just not right.

Anyway, ignore my bitter old git rant. I'm just jealous of all you youngsters out there if truth be told.
 
Not me denying (or even threatening with) the world a BabyShambles, Nomy. Finding a Mrs Shambles who would even consider an impregnation is more the issue. Have always had a bit of a thing for the older ladygirls but at this point that means they are a bit too old for such things and somebody more my own age is rather appealing. The current Mrs Shambles definitely isn't available for such things any more anyway - no eggs left in the box, as it were. Tis more of a best friend with nobs on (and occasionally in) than a proper boy/girlfriend set-up and never been a longterm plan for either party really. Need to get away from this horseless one-sheep town to go forth and multiply but that is also kinda difficult. Plus you kinda have to get the right person who also happens to be in the right place herself to even think of procreation and that's a challenge in it's own right :\

I keep fairly mixed company really and always have done - much older and much younger folks usually cos folks my own age seem to mostly be deeply entrenched in the married wiv kidz scenario in their 30s and don't get let out much.

PS: Just realised that first paragraph makes me sound like some kinda freaky babymaker hunter - it's not quite like that despite appearances to the contrary :D

Don't you worry about having kids, When mine are teenagers throwing a strop they're being sent down to Uncle Shammy's ;) That'll sort their asses out. AND YOURS.

"Uncle Shammy" does like to chit-chat and muck about with Junior Mr & Junior Ms RobySadie (no - not like that you mucky-minded readers, you :p) but teenagers are a bit of a handful even for me. I wouldn't have wished my teenage self on anybody :D

PS: Hairyface talk reminds me - I still can't grow a proper beard even if I wanted to. Cheeks do fill out a bit better than they used to but if I ever wanted more than a lil chinny-thingy then I'm shit outta luck. Fortunately I don't have any overwhelming desires for facefuzz at the moment but would be nice to have the option instead of just looking grubby if I don't shave :\
 
I was actually a well behaved teenager and a decent conversationalist. A bit boring for some folk I guess. I enjoyed my teenage years as best anyone can. Mr. Sadie however was also a good teenager on the inside but played up as teenagers seem to do. His mum OOFFT Felt sorry for her.

I Deffo don't want that out of mine!

I must admit to getting the odd broody twang thesedays as it's slowly dawned on me that I probably won't be siring any more kids....and I do love and somewhat miss the company of toddlers
