Thoughts and suggestions for forum improvement

I think a monthly circus could be beneficial mind you!

Of course the logistics are problematic ! But it's a nice thought (assuming you like circuses)
So that'd be a good thing ?

by circus do you mean the animal in the lounge and the puppet moderator they have, and their closing thread spectacle !

I think I'll PM complexPHILOSOPHY, and see if I can confirm that he's no longer interested in the modstick. He sure has acted like it recently, now that I look at his user profile. Seeing as how he's a PhD student in two of the most intellectually challenging fields possible, my guess is he doesn't have much time anymore. If he doesn't get back to me for a couple weeks, or tells me he doesn't want it, I'll get in touch with the admins.

I'm going to propose we not nominate anyone for a mod position until we're SURE there's one to be filled.

I'd like to know what the most intellectually challenging fields are. :\

it was a very "intellectually challenging" thing to do ;)

Biography:
Pursuing a double-major in mathematics and theoretical physics (quantum mechanics or high energy) at UCSD. I plan to finish as one of the top math and physics students and continue to graduate school for my PhD.

We are constantly welcoming suggestions for improving the forum. MDAO and I have great communication and should be able to agree on accommodate suggestions very well. :)
 
I think that BL has a lot of unpleasant limitations.
For example I am new here and before I get 25 posts I cannot send PMs and attach any files to my posts.
It is so inconvenient...
It would be nice to reduce the number of posts to 5-10.
 
Take that up with the administrators in the Support forum, Synthis. Nothing we can do about it here.

I don't know how agreeable you'll find the admins on this one, though, because this rule ends up preventing a lot of spam.
 
My (unattainable) wish would be for discussion of political theory to be more thoroughly integrated into CE & P. As it stands, there is too much presentation of events and opinions sans analysis or justification.

But that's not for you guys. :)

Seriously, whatever you are doing, it's working great...the current condition of the forum borders on the best I can remember.

Maybe we could make some giant threads on large topics that get stickied if "healthy" enough. People could post essays and the like (if they are THAT bored/geeky).

this forum has always been lovely, for me.

i would like to see a little sticky at top for a lounge type discussion. i love to see that in all forums, it seems to get together those who are so polar in their belief states in an informal and fun lounge type way. and i see it work (obviously) in getting more polite discourse without the flaming.

not too much flaming here lately though.

p.s. i really miss calling this TnA :( :D i demand a rename. don't mess with perfection.

the limit is actually 20 and that's hardly a great burden - most people rack up 20 posts within a few short days. you're almost half way there.
