Thought ice was bad? Introducing 'Flakka'
By CANDACE SUTTON
13 October 2015

A drug which sends users into a paranoid frenzy where they act like zombies, hide from imaginary assailants and strip naked as their body overheats has hit Australia.

Called flakka, and known on the street as 'gravel' and by chemists as alpha-PVP, it has become known as America's scariest drugs.
Its extreme effect on the body means up to four police officers are needed to restrain a person high on the drug.

Videos of flakker users in the US show people writhing on the ground and screeching, hiding from non-existent gunman, running naked through city streets, trying to have sex with a tree and claiming they area God.

Right? At least three incorrect/misspelt words in this sentence alone. Are theg calling it "flakka" or "flakker"?
Talk about amateur journalism.

That picture that looks like salt?
It's salt. A-PVP looks nothing like that.
Daily Fail indeed. This is just embarassing. 8o

Drug experts warn of dangerous new hallucinogen ‘flakka’

Authorities have warned of a dangerous new drug, potentially on its way to Australian streets, which is known as ‘flakka’.

The synthetic hallucinogen is scientifically known as Alpha PVP and combines the effects of ‘ice’ – or methamphetamine – and LSD. It is also known as ‘gravel’ and ‘zombie’.

Forensic toxicologist Andrew Leibie, from Safe Work Laboratories, said little was known about the drug’s specific effects.

“How bad is it? Well, to be honest, we don’t even really know enough about it to tell you how bad it is,” he said.

There were rumours the drug was already available in Australia, specifically in Sydney, Mr Leibie said.

“I’ve heard stories in the greater Sydney area, in Newcastle and Wollongong, that’s it about $15 a pop,” he said.

Flakka is already available in Europe and America and had been implicated in balcony and vehicle deaths, Mr Leibie said.

The drug was being monitored, National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre Professor Michael Farrell said.

“It’s one of the new psychoactive substances, over 240 new psychoactive substances, being monitored across the world,” he said.

Synthetic hallucinogens are dangerous, NSW Police Force Detective Superintendent Tony Cooke warned.

“These things can cause death and we need people to understand that and we need people to understand that and make some decisions for themselves not to take them,” he said.

Living causes death. Anyone else ever get the feeling that it's all connected somewhat, the health nuts, the prohibitionists, those people who eat quinoa(sp) and take vitamins and rant about toxins. The ones who take a bad thing like smoking, decide the truth isn't bad enough and still feel the need to make up lies. That lying beneath it all is an utter terror at the knowledge one day they will die? And so will everyone they love, and that anyone not equally terrified must be stupid or insane.

That second article is really hilarious.

Combines the effects of ice and LSD

I love this shit. Like chemists pick the effects that they want and mix them up in a bowl. Sounds really fun actually, need to try it.

“How bad is it? Well, to be honest, we don’t even really know enough about it to tell you how bad it is,” he said.

Sounds pretty bad.

People calling a-pvp hallucinogens are fucking idiots.

I guess alcohol must be a hallucinogen, because it can cause DTs in withdrawal, right?

Those reporting it - who can't spell basic words or even consistently use this "flakka" (or is it "flakker"? Varies on sentence to the next) are just tabloid propaganda fools.
And i would say Forensic toxicologists should know better, but those that are just footsoldiers in 'the war on drugs' probably don't care to look at the situation from any other perspective than the one they are employed to speak for.

Having said that, I agree this is a dangerous, scary drug.

But an analogy can certainly be made here with "the boy who cried wolf".
People that believe this shit will believe anything. And a whole lot of people, who actually need to be warned from time to time, switched off ages ago.
We are lied to so much about the dangers of things like cannabis and psychedelics, that when truly dangerous substances like these kinds of cathinones, NBOx drugs and the plethora of synthetic cannabinoids hit the scene, the reports that come out in the media serve as little more than advertisements.
I bet there are people seeking this out that have no idea how readily available it was a few years ago.

This drug is really becoming a problem in florida, its cheap and easy to get. I havent tried it but I know numerous people who have stopped doing the DOC they have always done and gone to flakka, so it must be very addiciting, god help us

BREAKING NEWS

A new drug has emerged, which combines the effects of mind-numbing industrial solvents and strong benzos along with a hint of stimulation. Users can be frequently seen, often in big groups/hordes, behaving absolutely belligerently: shouting, stumbling around, vomiting, arguing, vandalizing, fighting until dawn. Heavy users typically have no recollection of their actions while high on this new drug. Overdose is described as a state of stupor where the user is completely unaware of their surroundings, unresponsive to external stimuli and often found vomiting and/or relieving themselves onto themselves, unable to stand up or even sit upright. This drug is so harmful, dangerous and addicting that upon cessation, heavy users experience delirium akin to ingesting datura also known as Devil's Trumpet, withdrawal from this drug has caused numerous deaths. Scientists have found that this drug is toxic and harmful to practically every organ of the body, especially the liver, kidneys, pancreas and the brain.

It goes by the names ethanol, alcohol, booze among others.

^ and now, a word from our sponsor, Budweiser.

I wonder why there are so few shock-horror media tales of booze...

"thought ice was bad? Well, wait until you see THIS!....what? How bad is it? We actually don't know. What does it do? Uhhhh, we don't really know too much about that either...someone suggested asking the online community of degenerates who ingest an alphabet soup of psychoactive chemicals on a regular basis, but it had to go to press before we could do that..."

Until then we'll use the same template that we've used during previous drug moral panics: frenzied reports of people taking their cloths off and running through the streets (PCP), people putting babies in the microwave (crack cocaine), people getting chased by the black helicopters (meth), etc.

Personally i prefer my microwaved crack baby whilst running naked down the street naked away from black helicopters, then flying off buildings and turning into a glass of orange juice.

Although at least since it's a stimulant the reports will be more entertaining than the panic about middle class white kids doing heroin.

Yeah, the problem is, they never retract the completely bogus reports - so fact and fiction are even more blurred than they usually are in the media.

Hopefully the Chinese "ban" on RCs will stop this one getting too much more popular (and too much more press).
