this year's NBA Most Valuable Player is not going to be a reward that the sports media can take lightly. in my opinion, it is going to reward the best player in our modern, post-MJ era.

I know that in most specially pro basketball, the MVP award is even more bullshit, but this year we have three deserving candidates. somebody is going to get screwed out of the running here.

will it be LeBron James - who is leading his Cleveland Cavaliers to the best record in the NBA? or will it be Kobe Bryant - who just got a taste of the MVP title. don't sleep on Dwayne Wade - because if he can make the Miami Heat look competitive, he just might be worthy.

who do you all think will win the MVP trophy?

and am I placing too much weight on this arguably meaningless reward?
 
bron's gonna win it for sure but imo wades been playing better. kobes having a pretty average season by his standards, but its mostly cuz he doesnt have to put up crazy numbers on a team with such depth.
...it is a meaningless award like you said tho and it hardly ever goes to the most deserving player (again imo).
 
(in my announcer voice) Deeeeewayyyyne Wiiiizzzzzzllllllle. Seriously he is the most valuable player to his team. If Kobe or bron weren't on their teams they wouldn't suck nearly as bad as if Dwayne was off the heat, this is my reasoning for him aside from the fact his numbers are beastly.

actually im pretty sure the cavs would be horrible w/o bron (at least offensively). i think mike browns offensive playbook consists of "give lebron the ball..." i agree that wade has been playing the best out of the three tho. only problem is that there isnt really a definition of what the mvp is so its usually hard to say whos gonna get it. but based on all the attention lebron has been getting by the sports media, coupled with the fact that his team has the best record, brons most likely gonna get it.
 
The cavs would be horrible, but west, big z, and side show bob could still put some points up. The heats best player other than wade is haslem that was the point I was trying to articulate(rather unsuccesfully I might add lol).
 
King Lebron should win it without question. The Cavs have the best record in the NBA and he's the only REAL superstar on that team.

If he doesn't take it this year I am going to shit my pants.
 
^ If I were you I'd be rooting for the title instead of MVP, bron ain't gonna be in Cleveland for long. After last nights beat down by Orlando though the cavs do still have holes, the east might not be a lock after all.....
 
Obviously Lebron will win it this year. But the MVP voting in the NBA is so stupid. The award is meaningless as far as I'm concerned. People just vote for the best player on the team with the best record these days. And since media members are the voters they of course play it up so they can increase readership with their stupid arguments about this and that. Ridiculous.
 
LeBron will win.

Despite my strong opinion that if you asked each Kobe and Lebron:

"If you two were to play against each other (either one-on-one, or, alternatively, leading your respective talented teams) and you each HAD to bet your life on the outcome" . . .

Kobe would bet on himself without hesitation, while LeBron would chew on his fingernails for a bit, and then wish he could opt out of the bet.
 
LeBron is obviously going to win this year (there's really no contest in the media), but if you watch his Cavs team - they're actually pretty good, fit their roles well, and all have the ability to create their own shots and knock down their own shots consistently. I mention this because the Lakers traded away one of their two consistent 3-point threats (Vujacic has been in a slump this season) and are really lacking in the kick-outs.

Anyway, it would be bittersweet if shit happens and Kobe or LBJ win MVP and don't win a 'ship.. I'm sure they'd prefer that championship.
 
I think people are forgetting about Dwight Howard? As mention previously it's not all about numbers. It's best contribution to a team.
 
^yeah, the award seems like it should be that way, but we all know that it has more to do with individual stats and team record. If relying on best contribution to a team and outstanding individual seasons alone, Wade would be legitimately in the race this year, and Kobe would have won in '06-'07 - but they both couldn't get their teams to a high enough seed. MVP is really a hard category to decide on but that's how they've been doing it for a while.

And also the award is closely tied to its own hype, and it's been Kobe or Lebron all season- top 2 players in the game, top 2 records in the league. Dwight imo is a legit contender and will gather votes, but won't win. That's just how the media's shaping it to be.

personally, I am a huge Dwight Howard fan. and he most certainly gives Orlanda a ferocious inside presence, that without they would be just merely a good shooting team.

however, this is the NBA MVP we are talking about here. it's already based on some pretty ambiguous terms. as much as it would be awesome to see Howard win it, I just can't see that happening.

Seriously, if, hypothetically, the Celtics go from a 66-16 season, a thrashing of Kobe's Lakers to win the title . . .

. . . to potentially losing in Round One or getting blown out by Orlando, some people (I won't be one of them, but they'll be there - you'll see - who argue that Garnett meant the most TO HIS TEAM.

ESPECIALLY if neither Kobe nor LeBron wins the title.
