while browsing through my photo folders, i've noticed i have a LOT of cool pictures taken in my own back yard. it got me thinking that it would be a cool concept to create a thread where people are free to post pictures that they take, the only catch being, you have to be located on YOUR property when taking the photograph (the only exception being a photograph OF your property, from a different location. ie from a neighbors yard, etc.). i think it will be interesting to see what kind of surroundings some of us are dwellers of.

i know not everyone lives in a rural area like i do, so if that's the case, feel free to take photography of or in your house/apartment/etc. i'd like to emphasize that this thread should be more geared towards photography rather than 'post a picture of your house' or 'post a recent pic' or anything of the sorts. it's meant to be a display of the artistry and beauties in your every day habitat. that said, there really won't be any limitations on WHAT you photograph so long as it fits the criteria i stated in the first paragraph. i'd just like to abstain from turning it into a boring thread of peoples' houses. :D

also... a question... theoretically, should i stumble upon a photo that i think would fit well into one of the photo contests, but i post it here... would i still have free reign to use it in a contest so long as i've not used it in a contest before? or are our contest photos supposed to be taken AFTER the category is announced? i have a backstock of photos i've taken, some of which i know would be useful in the future.

i am going to cheat a little bit and use a picture i took on valentine's day at my parents house. its of a sunset over lake erie, but it looks all white because the lake is completely frozen and covered in snow. past the trees, you can see some of the docks in the marina.

i wish had a real camera and not just my phone that day.

wow WAY cool!

i suppose we won't call it cheating since you got the ball rolling, muh dear!!!

i was uploading pics, so i'll begin sharing now. i won't put them all up just yet, i'll leave some for later. :)

Wow, nice shots! At the moment I'm living with my parents in suburbia, which doesn't exactly have the most exciting scenery.

that's the cool thing, it doesn't have to be scenic. any sort of photo will do. it's all about the angles and lighting. it doesn't have to be immaculate. :)

couple more.

oh... and very cool pics changed! no qualms with you posting multiple dog pics, i've got some good ones of my dogs i'll put up sometime. probably tomorrow though cause it requires some digging and uploading. :D

Great thread idea and beautiful photos!

I took this photo from my backyard, though it is actually my next door neighbour's tree. I was delighted to find this eucalypt filled with hundreds of parrots one morning! At first I thought they were cockatoos, but while they are the same size they don't have the crest, and they have a little orangey/pink patch on their cheeks instead.

this is my old backyard with the train trestle we used to play in as kids.
My bf and I have bonfires there now, hence the stairs.

^That has the makings of an ultra cool den or a fort.

If I was your bf, I'd claim it for myself & ban smelly girls :D

Meh, if I called it a sex hut then it would sound a bit "rapey" & seedy, but when you say it, it sounds a lot more appealing :) ;)
