This is true!! I did zoology at uni and they actually teach you about this as a case of how metabolism doesn't increase with size. It's like giving a 120kg guy four times the amount of a 60kg guy - talk about fuck your system. Mind you, they do this shit to rodents all the time and no-one notices. One elephant and the world was up in arms (bet they won't do that again!)

OR the elephant was killed via conventional means and the large quantity of acid was kept for the personal use of the researchers. The study was pointless and cruel but it may have just been a ploy on the part of the researchers to obtain a large quantity of pharmaceutical grade acid.
