"New Danger Drug Selling For 50p A Pill Is Lapped Up By British Teenagers!"

Courtesy of the Northcliffe Axis of Evil, here's another laughable story. Just read it; I won't bother quoting.

We've had 'Miaow Miaow', now we have 'Mano 10'. Which is a 'new menace', except it's just erm... diazepam. :D

Makes Reefer Madness look like a well-informed documentary. The ultimate irony being that the Mail published a nostalgic little nudge-wink piece when Roche stopped manufacturing Valium.

Oh dear...

What a load of bullshit! Laced with heroin a 50p a pop, with the gear drought and everythig!

'We know of one 15-year-old girl who started taking Mano 10 on a Monday and by Friday she was addicted to it. ' WTF really? that pic doesnt look like diazepam, who knows what this wonder might be?? The metro pic look more like the press of a benzo fury pellet but not at 50p a pop they aint! Jeez.........

Mano 10s are a brand of diazepam (manufactured in Thailand, unless I'm mistaken). Nothing to do with the stupidly-named 'Benzo Fury' whatsoever, though the poor journo seems utterly clueless as to what's in them, just that it's bad, bad, bad.

I am now enlightened, cheers! Didnt know that

I used to work for The Daily Mirror in my early twenties Cracker.. There was a pub under DMs old building and basically the hacks used to spend all day every day in it.. doing fuck all, getting pissed, making stuff up and getting paid for it..

I used to walk round fast with a ruler looking buzy when the management were around.. when really my main day consisted of shopping and getting stoned..
Got a damned good wage for that too, and managed to get press passes from some of the
entertainments journos to some good clubs and events.. and all at Mr Maxwels expense :D

Bill Bryson ( Notes from a Small Island) . recounts those early 90s days in the Media really
funnily.. Worth getting his books if you ever see them about.

Good days

Drug addicts switch to inject in economic decline
DRUG users are more likely to reach for the needle when an economic downturn bites.

An analysis of figures from rehabilitation centres in France has revealed that as financial markets nosedived three years ago, some drug users stopped snorting or swallowing cocaine. They started injecting the drug instead, says Christian Ben Lakhdar at Lille Catholic University, France.

"Between 2007 and 2008, whilst salary growth rates were falling significantly, the proportion of injecting drug users rose by 1.7 per cent," he says (International Journal of Drug Policy, DOI: 10.1016/j.drugpo.2011.03.004).

He speculates that the switch is driven by cost, as less of a drug is needed to achieve a high when injected.

Whether or not Ben Lakhdar's hypothesis is correct, the results of his analysis suggest that economic hardship may encourage drug users to turn to riskier methods of dosing themselves that might expose them to infectious diseases - something he thinks should be addressed in future government health policies...

Makes a lot of sense to me. Grim...

Mano 10 – small blue tablets also known as ‘blue boys’ – are illegal class C drugs if not prescribed.
They can have the same effect as amphetamines and heroin if taken in large quantities – sending users ‘completely off their heads’.
I missed this.... Right.... Now, I knew that journalism could be completely fucking, fucking, fucking, fucking idiotic....
But..... Seriously? Really? Are you sure about that? I mean.... Fowr reelz?

This actually hurt my eyes when I read it. I think a little bit of blood came out.

Young drug users turn to 'bubble' for a cheap high

After the ban on mephedrone, the market for generic, unidentified white powders has grown, says new report

wtf, Bubble? .. this is a new expression to me.

also, yay ..
At the same time, the team discovered an emerging trend in the previously moribund ecstasy market. In the early 90s, ecstasy became the drug of choice with many clubbers. With each tablet containing between 80mg and 120mg of MDMA, the drug, often manufactured in the Netherlands using products shipped from China, was considered a potent new stimulant. But the MDMA content diminished over the years, causing ecstasy to decline in popularity. Today a tablet contains as little as 20mg of MDMA.

However, the team noted that a far more potent version of ecstasy was making a comeback, with tablets – believed to be made in China – now on sale containing up to 80mg of MDMA.

The team noted that there has been an "emergence of a two-tier market for "pill"', with generic pills (expected to have some minor stimulant effect but not necessarily containing an active dose of MDMA) being sold for around £3 each; "ecstasy pills" (assumed to contain an active dose of MDMA) being sold for about £10 each; and in the summer of 2011 the emergence of exceptionally high-strength Ecstasy pills in some parts of the UK, containing a much higher dose of MDMA than seen in recent years."

[edit] if anyone knows a place I can dl the original source doc for freeee, rapidshit, mediafire etc ... link me, ktnx <3

also .. just saw this

Third of clubbers who take mephedrone may be addicted, survey finds

Contrary to the belief that mephedrone is less harmful than drugs like cocaine, many users showed signs of dependence

Dr Winstock's team interviewed 100 people who had reported mephedrone use in a previous survey carried out in association with the clubbing magazine MixMag.

Dependence can only be diagnosed with a proper clinical assessment. However, the researchers used a telephone interview version of a classification system called DSM-IV, with participants being asked about seven aspects of their drug use.

These covered increased tolerance; withdrawal symptoms; consumption of more mephedrone than intended; failed attempts to cut back or give up; spending a lot of time taking the drug or recovering from doing so; giving up social, professional and recreational activities because of it; and continuing to take it despite associated health problems.

Three or more positive answers to these questions is considered to indicate possible substance dependence. In the mephedrone survey, 30% of respondents met this criterion. In addition, 34% reported being concerned about their use of the drug, 22% said they had a persistent or strong urge to use it, and 15% said family or friends had expressed concerns about their use. Tests carried out on 14 of the participants confirmed that all had traces of mephedrone in their urine.

Why are British tabloids so bad? I mean there's such drastic disparity between quality and shitty papers, I know it's like this in every country but in the UK it seems even more marked.
