I waited until my pupils dilate. "finally," I thought, "the intoxicants have taken hold". I strapped the shoes onto my feet and opened the door separating oblivion from infinity.

Barely a step into the world before I'm enveloped by a void filled with inorganic lights and unnatural symmetry. structure dissolves around me and i grin, mistaking my sudden ignorance for enlightenment. it truly is bliss; i am at peace. the night is warm, but the cold streets of concrete and asphalt sap the vitality from my visceral emotions.

I step into an alley to regain my strength, clutching at my gut as I attempt to retch into the corner between a dumpster and the wall. I look up, and get pulled into a dream. Between the walls of brick lies a world of so much colour that it shines as if illuminated by the sun.

A rattling noise draws my attention and I start. A dark figure stares at me and I stare back. The only words I can utter are: "I like it." He hands me a thick pen in silence, and I stare at it. "Add something," he says. I press the felt against the wall and an energy from deep within me surges through my fingers and onto the decorated wall. "Defeated is the king impressed by the meaningless, yet vexed by the conquest of soul by the soulless," I write. "This is our city," he explains.

A noise shatters the night, casting a harsh light onto us. Through the noise, I discern the word "run," and follow my fellow patriot up a wall and through the streets. My body disconnects, and I'm running faster and farther than I've ever run before. "Alright we're safe," he finally pants, slowing to a halt. We part ways with the agreement that we'll meet again some day.

I sit down with my back against a barren wall and stare out at the aura of light cast by the world around. My mind twitches, it's losing grip once more. I stand up and start for home. Dark clouds congregate in the night sky over my path to safety, but I pay no heed. This is my city.

it's meant to capture what tripping on acid feels like walking through a metropolis where anything can happen.

Love this... I've been there before, just not for years. ;)

It captures this very well indeed. You could expand it some more, but then I like it just the way it is...
