I know this is about non drug addictions, but i used to be loke that with drugs, as in if they are around I have to have them. It seems to have died off recently though. I like this new found self control over myself.

(p.s. Love the pun about being 'up all night'! At least someone got your joke mate! ;))

my supervisor at work (who is one of those bouncy high on life types) was saying today how she will never try any drugs, not even weed, because 'their just not good'.. so I said 'you like alcohol right?' and she was like 'YEAH!' and I was like 'well alcohol is a drug, and its fun, same applies to other drugs', and she was like 'its not a drug' :| I mean she is so full of life she will have plenty of fun without drugs but I wish people would see alcohol in the same light

tis true though! =D didn't have internet over the summer and slept pretty well, now I have it I can happily surf till the sun comes up

When I'm clean, I go off music except in the car, whereas when I'm boozing it really is a must have. The Rollins band, metallica, old limp bizkit and similar, any punk, reggae, and it has to be Joy Division when I'm on a booze/benzo then benzo detox. Or tons of GBL for a day. When I'm on GBL, at high amounts, I like to watch Trainspotting and the new series Generation Kill - I love to play with Armalites and side arms when I'm abroad - fuck, this isn't a drug thread8)

Really clean, it has to be riding motorbikes (r1 and fazer1000) at high speed, which is dodgy now that I've lost my licence. Masturbation (but I go totally off spanking the monkey and sex for at least two weeks after withdrawal (maybe post withdrawal syndrome), then its either of those, and a day out at high speed - I find near death experiences take my mind off everything else. Surfing the net (porn til i shoot my bolt), then bike sites mostly, and some spiritual stuff. Eating when I'm bored, and thinking about building some muscle again which I lost after crashing heavily and the ensuing injuries. Lifting heavy weights for short periods for the endorphin rush.

Picking my scalp mindlessly when watching TV (either nat geographic or discovery stuff about combat - i'm a vietnam war junkie for some reason and usually have about 20 books on the subject; lately afghanistan but not iraq for some reason). Funnily, combat/violent stuff adds to the mental terrors when I'm in withdrawal, and I lose interest in everything - even comedy fails to raise a giggle. I like Carl Hiaasen books when I'm clean or stoned.

Buying off the wall t-shirts. Junk food.

And I'm sure there are a few others I can't remember - my memory is a bit fucked. My kid has got ps/wii etc and I occasionally play those - but invariably I like shooting games and bike racing - pretty limited on the hobby front.

I find that I have different interests when taking substances, and when clean.
 
ps - I also thought about SA as well as NA and AA, but realised too that my motivation wasn't "rigorously honest" :D

I remembered I find the News utterly depressing at any time.

Internet definitely, along with music. Most things I discover which I enjoy a lot I tend to go through a bit of an addiction phase with, whether it be drugs, a video game, tv show, etc. I have that sort of personality I think.
 
From time to time, TV. I watch it online. I'll get a season and sit there for 12 hours...
