Therapist gave patients acid, ecstasy

A psychotherapist who treated his high-society patients with LSD and ecstasy, saying the illegal drugs "expanded the consciousness", has been given a suspended sentence by a Swiss court.

The Zurich court gave the 62-year-old therapist a 16-month suspended sentence and a 2,000 franc ($2,300) fine for supplying the drugs during weekend therapy sessions between 2004 and 2008, the ATS news agency reported.

Groups of around 60 people, including doctors, lawyers, and businessmen's wives, attended the sessions.

They each paid 300 francs ($335) to attend.

The psychotherapist, who was not named by ATS, handed out 700 doses each of LSD and ecstasy, 50 of mescaline and 150 of 2-CB, a synthetic drug similar to mescaline, for which the prosecutor wanted him convicted of drug dealing.

In court, the therapist said the illegal products were not drugs but "substances which allow the expansion of the consciousness".

The court found him guilty of violating the law on therapeutic products.

Not sure if it's been put up before, but it's interesting that this sort of thing is still being done :)

When will people start to realize that theres a BIG difference between psychedelic drugs and 'narcotic' drugs...? its soo ridiculous that LSD and mushrooms are in the same schedule as Heroin and crack

Spoken so true. Have you EVER seen a "LSD Addict" or a "mushroom junky" ? I find it laughable that a man that drinks 12+ beers PER DAY, tells me that 3g of a naturally growing fungus is "gonna kill me" or "make me go crazy". They have been fed a stream of inadequate, inaccurate, and illogical "facts" and believe it. So sad. We need EDUCATION.

Hopefully one day these will be options for patients to help explore within themselves and possibly use for other reasons like PTSD

I know! They have so much potential in the field of psychotherapy, as the Shulgins and others have thoroughly and eloquently demonstrated. Whilst I don't believe that psychedelics should be as widely available as alcohol, there is no logic that can justify MDMA, LSD, DMT, etc. being in the same league as heroin and methamphetamine (or even a higher schedule in some countries).

Id love to see some work by the therapist. Studies, papers, just general information of how his practice played out. I think it'd be wonderful to lay out on the table.

I wish there were videos of these sessions on youtube that would be great

Thanks for posting, nice find. They pretty much let the guy off =) Very cool. I like how it doesn't seem to mention him loosing the right to practice either...

I'm just glad his sentence was suspended. There is NO reason whatsoever to put such a man into jail.

I very much resent the government enforced monopoly on medical care. There are plenty of alternatives (some ancient, some new) to AMA FDA Merck Pfizer Bayer approved treatments. People have a natural right to decide how and with what substances to treat themselves. Government can stay the hell out of my life. It's none of their damned business what I do about my own body. I don't want their insurance either. My health is my responsibility.

I'm glad others are making the connection between "free healthcare" and freedom.

The pharm. and insurance companies lobbied hard for this legislation. Its their bill and any bill put through congress will most likely be their bill.

When we let the government pay for everything we lose the "doctor's provide us a service we choose to pay for" dynamic that is essential for good treatment.

Its nice to see doctors putting their careers on the line for patients.

I don't really understand the American system or the changes the bill will bring, but in Aus we have a public and a private system. This means that everyone can get health care through the public system, but people who want the right to choose their doctor, their hospital, and so on can do so if they're willing and able to pay more.

Psychedelic studies are really starting to pick up again after decades of neglect. I recently read an article (I dont remember where) about how they were studying the effects of psilocybe mushrooms on cluster headache patients and the terminally ill. The results are incredible yet we still have to deal with bullshit like this.

They peddle methamphetamine to 5 year olds who have too much imagination but people are still facing legal troubles for exploring the many potential breakthroughs that psychedelics have to offer. It all comes down to fucking money. Makes me sick.

Try to get a hold of "Inside LSD", a special put out by the National Geographic Channel. They cover cluster headache along with a lot of other emerging research. Good show =) Think you'd like it

There is an interview with a psychiatrist in cali that works with psychedelics that goes along with this article too

bardo...you know they never prescribe desoxyn, especially to 5 year olds. maybe amphetamine but not meth.
where did this dude get said drugs from? did he use like street e's and stuff?
