The Wine List

That can be worse than a diagnosis.

When I was young, AS didn't exist in my country. The test for autism was basically the dolls, pictures of faces and then an IQ test. They thought that was important. I scored highly (won't show off and give the figure), so I was 'High Functioning' and they left me to go to the library.

I have dual US-India citizenship. I'm originally from Kolkata, West Bengal, India. However, upon my graduation from IIT in Kharagpur at 18 years old, I applied to and was accepted at U.C. Berkeley, California. Most of my time in America has been spent in California—primarily SF Bay Area and around Los Angeles. I'm not in America now, though. Currently, I sojourn in Dhaka, Bangladesh for a few weeks.

Why?

Aha, Indian--that explains why you didn't see much booze in yer food :-) Alcohol can also be great as a marinade..

Interesting bit re: dissociatives, me and my docs noticed quite significant increase in autistic symptoms since my alcoholic/dissociative days (bottle of booze plus a gram of ket daily). Symptoms consistent with both autism and frontotemporal dementia, in fact.
My ketamine dealer was autistic as well, although "less" so, and after a few years of heavy use--multiple grams daily which destroyed his septum-- he developed similar issues. Most noticably, for me, was his waterfall of speech and an increasing lack of inhibition. This combination severely impeded his communication skills and the saddest thing is that he just didn't see it himself.

Brains need rest. Don't just read up on frontotemporal dementia, read about (biological) neural networks as well. Read about training and plasticity and above all about rest. Autistiform brains often just need to slow down. I mean, they're still odd if you slow them down, but at least they won't burn themselves out.

I've two exes with Asperger's. My child has symptoms, friends children have AS n read books on Aspies. Fascinating subject.

In fact I've never been with an NT. Aspies are far more exciting, interesting than NTs. Not sure I'd like an NT partner as I'd be bored to tears.

So as to the supposition that I am autistic, I'm not sure if it is entirely factual but it is fairly close. I do have an autism spectrum disorder that may or may not be autism. It might be Asperger's, some PDD-NOS, or other neurodevelopmental disorder. And this is not my opinion; this is based on the conclusions specialists had drawn from their assessments of me when I was in my early teens.

BTW, you may want to follow these assessments up. Early teens is, well, early. When I finally got a clear view of my own ASS shortcomings I could at last separate it from the (psychotic) depression I had developed and which was overruling everything at the time. People grow up into weird tangles. I honestly think that IF you are tangled up it's best to get some sort of objective overview as soon as you run into issues. I really don't know you so I can't tell you how! But I can tell you that a specialist's word certainly won't have be the last word.
