The What's Good on European TV Thread Vs. What's Knock to Watch??

Just finished the second episode of that new Prof Cox series. Much better than the first episode. Really enjoyed that one. Is about how senses evolved and how they work in various animals. Fascinating stuff. Particularly like how he connects the biology back through chemistry to the fundamental physics. Stunning photography too. Well worth a watch for anybody into their nature stuff even if you're one of the many who can't stand Brian Cox usually. First two episodes on iPlayer now.

Just finished watching the fourth episode of Lost Kingdoms of South America. Has been really good. Makes a nice change from the standard Mayan/Inca kinda stuff. Each episode covers a different region and the civilisations native to it. Unless you're a South American archaelogical expert you've likely never heard of any of 'em covered in this series. Fascinating stuff. And some truly stunning examples of art and the like. Four episodes on iPlayer. Dunno if that's all of 'em but they're well worth a watch.

Watched that t'other day. Was okay but I wonder if it will work as a weekly thang. I was rather fond of the themed format it used to have. Not sure if even Charlie Brooker can save it from being just another topical weekly pile o' shite tbh.

Going to watch the repeat of the first Derek tonight on c4, Ricky Gervais' new thing. Is it any good?

I saw the pilot last year and can't remember laughing too much.

Gonna watch House of cards on netflix, seen netflix advertising the shit out of it

JTHM <3

Me lil brother recommended it to me ages ago but wan't up for a loan. Reading Material Fairy saw me right <3

Got me through a particularly dark coupla nights and put a grin from ear to ear whence there was none prior. Definitely recommended.

Will have to check out those animated thingies. Wasn't aware of those.

Hehe. Danny Baker and Jeremy Clarkson reminscing about "when music was good"? Ya. Expect a few brickbats for that ;)

Wince-inducing cliche of old-folk banging on about how great the 70s were... but some fair points were made. And just cos the sum total of their musical knowledge stops at ~1980 or so doesn't mean the stuff they are talking about ain't great. I happen to agree with lots of what was said. Was also a bit of a vinyl snob until I ended up selling the lot for a coupla bags o' scag (:\) so can certainly relate to that stuff. Can't argue with Bowie and Zappa and the like being classics either. Could live without some of the other stuff but personal taste and all that. Balanced out a bit by that producer fella who's done some good stuff. Dunno who that woman was though.

I used to love old LP covers and agreed with alot about that segment, Iron Maiden covers used to be superb and me and me mates used to search for the artist symbol hidden somewhere on the cover, brought back memories. Also remember the cleaning vinyl thing and balancing the tone-arm on a record player to get the best out of them. Used to like the peak meters and glowing valves on my Dad's setup. Couldn't believe a copy of Led Zep's album would go for thousands on ebay nowadays though.

Only the version with turquoise typeface, Ben. Was another thing I loved about vinyl - getting all anal about special editions and stuff. Had a few CDs that tried to do similar (funky packaging and stuff) but was never quite the same cos... well... cos they're just CDs. Totally agreed on the artwork stuff in general too - really does make a big difference having 12" art, gatefold sleeves and the like. Shows off the design so much better.

I HIGHLY recomend ITV1 Secret life of dogs.
It's on the ITV player now but I loved the show & it showed you how damn smart dogs really are :)

Yes! It was actually better than I thought it would be. I love dogs. That is all.

Also, Utopia is pretty good and Girls is worth a watch...

Currently watching Out if Jail & On the Streets on iPlayer. Doc about the probation service. Muderers, kidnappers, rapists, paedos... Not a job I'd fancy tbh. But quite interesting to see how the other half live.

The plight of Roger was particular upsetting. Leaving a probation officer to deal with someone who has Mental Health issues is bollocks. That poor guy. In the end, a charity stepped in.

Is that how the NHS deals with mental health currently?

About to watch Terminator 2 (for the billionth time), but with my new Logitech Z906s and a Smart TV. Must not have it too loud though, I'm seeing potential flat mates all day today. Groan.
