The Welsh Thread v. Dim ysmygu

While there's a racism dicksizing contest going on, I shall top trump all you wannabe(e)s and raise the benchmark with a Great, Great Great Grimsby. Yous havent experienced greatness until youve walked on my home turf yo.

It aint spot the white man around here, bruv.

EDL and a can of carling as a starter for ten (am in the morning or yer doin' it wrong)

Fuck off back to your own English thread. As far as I'm aware you need a dick to dicksize so you can't play.

And if you're going to keep baiting me with your defensiveness Vurt ;) Imma just continue with personal stories.

Intellectual used as an insult. I had it done to me twice (so far). I don't even consider myself intellectual, not by a long way. But in my town I apparently am, and this is apparently a bad thing to be.

"You and your travelling..." :?

Fair enough - nothing to do with race though - i've had that very sentiment from insular english people too ("you and your books and long words...").

MsMermaid: It's grim up 'sby ;)

Why am I getting two black (blank) boxes when I should be getting Charlotte Church?

(EDIT, got it, fuck IPads...should still be Charlotte though)

In other news, well done to the mod (Shambles?) for putting some proper Welsh into the title. Mutations an' all. Even if it is the sort of divvy sentence you have to learn so you can get level 1 in Welsh language and justify the horrendous amount of expenditure that goes on getting people to say "Cyfarchion o Sbaen".

I thought i'd sussed out embedding but maybe not (but it was siadwell actually... - i took the s out of http - does it work now?

(not as funny as i remembered from childhood - though i still like barry welsh (mainly because it's a challenge)

I thought High Hopes was unwatchable dreadful.

Stacey (and Gavin) was great, brilliant observational comedy. I imagine lots went over the heads of the English who watched it.

PS Hailstorm. When it rains here, it rains properly. I love it.

Never got into gavin and stacey personally (james corden didn't help) - maybe if i'd watched it from the start when it came out; much prefer the dark surrealism of sattelite city (especially moira and idris); didn't seem so pleased with itself for being welsh - horses for courses i guess

Shall I tell you what I like about John Sparkes (as far as I can tell)? He didn't go to Cambridge or Oxford or appear in fucking Footlights. Most of them do. I was just looking him up, and the cast of Absolutely. Morwenna Banks and he went on to achieve fame through the medium of Peppa Pig. Yes really. But then dig a bit more about Morwenna Banks. Whose first name is Tamsin. And she went to Cambridge. Was in Footlights. And is married to David Fucking Baddiel.

Most of the funniest people I've ever met are working class. Funny none of them ever got on the telly.

iirc didnt morwenna work with ben elton back in the day?

she used to annoy me if its the chick im thinking of

I used to be nutty for Ben. Even read his first novel. And Jasper Carrots. Went to see him live a few times. and ben. and rowan, and loads of em actually. miss going to stand up loads

Jim Jefferies Im comin for you hot stuff! ( v. working class non oxbridger)

SHM: Too right - working class or underclass (though maybe i just know more of them). There's a difference between wit and comedy as well - comedy is wit if it's had three days and a degree in english to think of a response (stand up involves more wit i suppose). At the same time not those people's fault they get the oppportunities, and i'd rather them than bernad manning or mike reid personally.

Have to admit I went to Saturday Night Live and was taken in by Ben Elton. Thatcher was in power and I was young and impressionable if you drove a ten ton truck over me.

I too miss going to stand up but I've been to some dreadful nights as well as some great ones.

At least Rik et al only went to Manchester. Which barely counts as a Uni really.
