I'm loving it, but can't say it's not crucifying my energy levels. The region in bold applies to me and you Snolly, I think, so it's gonna be another cracker today.

I'm just waiting for the 'threat of hosepipe ban' headlines to start, but they can get fucked with that, given it doesn't seem so long ago that we had threats of flooding around here. I've put stealth irrigation into most of my veg patches and flower borders, so I'll be sneaking a bit of water whatever, and fuck Anglian Water (in advance) for being so fucking useless.

I've been feeding the dog frozen veg to chew on because he's been panting loads. Keep finding pieces of broccoli and bits of carrot randomly under cushions n stuff now :D

Parts of Britain have been issued with an official level-three heatwave alert, one below the highest classification of emergency, as health officials sounded fresh warnings over the bout of "dangerous" weather.

Public health authorities said the elderly and those suffering long-term illnesses were particularly vulnerable, as Britain swelters in temperatures hotter than in parts of the Caribbean.

The warnings came as England and Wales recorded the hottest day of the year so far. Temperatures reached 32C in south-east England, with much of the UK experiencing between 28C and 31C.

Forecasters said the hot weather shows little sign of abating, with temperatures remaining in the mid- to high-20s for much of this week. The region where people's health is deemed to be most at risk is Yorkshire and the Humber, with the Met Office on Saturday imposing a level-three alert for the region.

Across most of England, level-two alerts are in place, with advice to the public on preparing for a heatwave. "Heatwaves can be dangerous, especially for the very young, very old or those with chronic diseases," the Met Office said.

A spokesman for Public Health England (PHE) added: "Level-two alerts are triggered as soon as the Met Office forecasts that there is a 60% chance of temperatures being high enough on at least two consecutive days to have a significant effect on health.

"The alert will normally be issued two to three days before a heatwave is expected. As most deaths occur during the first two days, this is an important stage at which to ensure readiness and swift action to reduce harm from a potential heatwave."

Dr Angie Bone, head of PHE's heatwave plan, said: "The elderly and those with long-term illnesses are particularly vulnerable to the effects of very hot weather, so it's important to look out for them."

Meanwhile, the RAC said more than 11 million motorists were planning to hit the road this weekend, and that the most popular destinations would be the Lake District, Devon and Cornwall, the south coast of England and Yorkshire.

Retailers said the weather had had a profound impact on the sales of certain products, particularly as customers plan barbecues and parties. Tesco predicted that sales of sausages alone will hit 9m over the weekend.

irrigation is good, marmalade - look into getting a water butt, and no.. thats not something you get from sitting in a paddling pool all day

what are we like, eh? the brits - always fuckin moaning about the weather. had to admonish two people already, c'mon to fuck - remember all that snow n shite last year? i do, was in a bastard cold flat with no insulation or gas. quite happy with things the way they are

theres a wonderful smell in the air.. almost like, hazy holiday memories, anyone else noticed this? its great, i love it

yes it saps ya, and christ.. getting close beneath the covers is akin at times to some sort of BDSM pleasure/pain ceremony. but whatever, IM NOT COMPLAINING SEE.. showers afterwards am nice

being a bloke, i <3 the different clothes the girlies be wearing now its hot. forgot how sexy a figure-hugging (not tight necessarily) dress can be on an even remotely curvy woman - totally transforms them into tropical, classy, feminine, sunkissed beauties. lovin yer work ladies %)

I've got 3 water butts at different parts of the garden (well, ones I've had set up at my mum's anyway). Want to buy a pump for one of them, so I can use it with the irrigation set up.

And yeah, everything smells great atm. My own garden is tiny, but it's full of honeysuckle, which is flowering and smells ace first thing in the morning, and after dusk when it starts going cool.

It's actually pretty cool and overcast right now, with a little breeze. Feels lovely

[edit]

I've got two sets of bird feeding stations set up at my mum's and there's been loads starlings there everyday making a row ... they bring their babies to feed all the time cause there's a huge bird bath too. I put the sprinkler on for them yesterday too, and they were playing about in that for most of the afternoon.

I'm burnt to a crisp. not even been out too long. can't beat irish skin for a good burning. my dad was saying he wondered why he didn't blister any more, you get one bad burning in your life and you wise up a bit then.

Funny, was talking about starlings with my mother yesterday. We basically don't get them in London any more though- what's scary is that I can remember when we did. She has seen loads lately.

I love this weather but I'm not adapting well re energy levels either, keep falling into exhausted snoozes when I'm trying to have sex etc.

generally dont feed the birds in the summer, last winter was a bitch and we try to stock up to make sure we can afford to keep em fed throughout the lean months. sounds daft, but hey - we're poor

playing in the sprinkler eh? sounds cute. maybe try take some pics if they return. love birds, me - the flying things with beaks aint too bad either

This weather makes me realise how many items of black clothing I own.

It's almost my entire wardrobe, and I ain't even a goth. Swear.

black clothes can set up convection currents to keep you cool if you have a khameez or and abayo or whatever the womans is called. I do like a bit of sunshine though it makes me terribly lazy.

Exactly the same here. I don't have one item of clothing I wear atm that isn't black. Buggerered if I'm buying loadsa white or light stuff just cause it's hot.

This morning is baking already. Decent quality, non hazy sunshine tho, the best kind. Not even remotely heavy like it has been some days.
Was also a good cool breeze flowing through the bedroom this morning too, which made a change.

It was very cool here too; at least until about 8:30, whereupon it was blazing again.

I'm finally coming to terms with it.

fukin love it been out n done stuff already . now i'm smoking the stuff i done . I did other things as well mind .

Might have a Siesta in an hour i think .

Its getting Hotter

And Better :)
Been out and about since 9am , mostly on foot but also in a car ( as passenger which is great in this weather )

Long may this weather continue ! Love sweating . Usually in a dark techno club at 3am. But this is prety good as well

Beyond roasting outside now

fucking awesome

I have no idea how humidity readings work, as a general rule they say the higher the humidity reading the less you sweat as your skin "feels" more damp to begin with so you wont notice it.

They say London has a low humidity, I dont understand why it feelsso fucking hot then in that case?
Much worse than when I went to the Taj Mahal and on that day it was like 46c

Love hot weather, just love dry heat better
Seems London at 30 is like 40 everywhere else

this aint dry heat i have lived in dry heat, dry heat wont make you sweat in the sun, it will make your skin burn thats all .

this is heat in a 3rd world country with no technology for air conditioning in houses and buses and shops

walking on the streets in this weather is fine apart from a bit of sweat on the neck etc , its when you walk into shop/bus etc that you start sweating like a pig cos your skin tries to compensate for the temp change

Ok I googled a bit.
Seems London whilst not having a high humidity level has a high " relative" humidity ( whatever that means) as the town as the thames estuary lends to "water vapor" even in a drought

AH = Mass of dissolved water vapour/per cubic metre of total moist air.

something like that.
certainly feels more humind than a Summers day in Tokyo which is supposed to have 80% humidity while london has 45% yet London feels more humid

Well I'm so bored I googled current humidity levels.

London 18% WTF?

Where I am 88% WTF?

Its a total scam
London humidity today via met office is 18%

Yet it took me 3 hrs to fall asleep last night it was so bad , even with all the windows opened

It was far stickier than anything ever in New York or Tokyo( that I have experienced anyways)

fuck it, off to hyde park with 8 cans
Life's too short !

Today's been really cloudy and humid here, but the sun's beaming now. Back to work tomorrow though :( got a cracking tan though
