Television The Walking Dead

and hopefully . . . T-Dog will die

I'm kind of rooting for T-Dog, actually. I can see him hooking up with Beth (the vein cutter) and driving Herschel back to the bottle. The seed was laid last episode when Herschel told him, "The couch is mine!"

How do they survive? I am on episode 2 and they haven't been eating. And I'm not sure I can keep watching, losing interest.

^ once again, I've learned that sometimes good writing doesn't show everything. that doesn't mean it's not happening. I mean shit, they live on a farm in the very fertile area of Georgia. I'm sure they are living on peach cobbler alone ;) for reference, you don't see the characters going to the bathroom, but does this mean they haven't used the restroom?

well I can't wait to find out what is going to happen at the end of Season 2 with that... group of zombies. we should get some much-needed bloodshed and chaos :)

I will admit that the last episode was better than normal and it does seem as if they will finally leave the farm. I have heard that Michonne and the Governor will be in the tv series. what i meant was to not get your hopes up with how the characters are portrayed if previous character development is of any indication.

I think that all of us that watch this show like it to some degree or at least have high hopes for it. We just know how much better it could have been. Amy is exactly right about the characters being bi-polar. That just screams of bad writing to me. Why did that last gunshot alert the herd to go to the farm when there have been a shitload of gunshots fired at the farm? How does Carl just wonder around the farm by himself ALL THE TIME? Farms are kind of dangerous as it is even if it isnt at night, in a zombie apocalypse, with a supposed armed and dangerous escaped prisoner.

Axl, I understand that tv shows and movies dont need to show every day mundane tasks like eating and going to the bathroom but those things should play an integral part in these characters lives now in the world they live in. It needs to be shown how difficult it is to do things that we take for granted. It kills me every time i see Grimes in what looks like a brand new white t shirt. No amount of washboarding can get clothes looking that good. Have you seen "The Colony" on the discovery channel? Its a reality show but i think its much more indicative of how harsh it would be to live in that world.

My theory is that the show producers sat down with the AMC executives sometime over last summer and they had a financial conversation that laid out where the show needed to go, and how much it was going to cost to get it there. I would bet that AMC was unwilling to put up the money, that a proper progression of the story would have required, for a second season show with an uncertain future. I think a compromise was then made that would provide for a cheap second season with a long term budget that leaned heavily toward the third season.

What I'm trying to say is that I think the third season should be a lot better than the second. I mean, why would AMC not invest in this show when it is so popular? Even if it's not equally acclaimed.

Then again, AMC is not exactly known for making the best decisions. This is the same network that waited until midway through the fourth season of Breaking Bad to renew it for its final season.

And yeah, sorry for all the wet blanket technical talk. The Walking Dead is my racquetball court. It gets my daily stresses thrown against it.

The final episode should be really good.

Carry on...

damn, those are really good points by the both of you. no, I haven't seen the Colony, but it sounds interesting. and I get your point too. there is a difference between eating and shitting here, because what they're eating (or not eating) plays heavily in this post-apocalyptic world... it should be shown a bit more how they are roughing it, I do agree with you. in TWD comics they are constantly starving and make jokes about how sick of eating canned food for so long. a big running "almost joke" was how they are sick and tired of eating canned beans, lol

batmanplaybaseball, damn, I hope you're right. it sounds like this Season 3 is going to make it or break it here. I hope they don't fuck up the Prison or the Governor, but I just don't see how that is humanly possible

I have no doubt that they will fuck it up somehow. There is no way TV adaptations are going to live up to our expectations. All we can hope for is to be pleasantly surprised lol

LOL - that being said I hope to be "pleasantly surprised" with the Season 2 Finale tonight... I might have to catch the later showing, as my boss surprised me on Friday by telling me that I had to come into work today (Sunday)... blech

I thought the season finale was excellent. Plus it set the foundation for what looks like an epic third season.

Also, kudos to the writers for actually making me feel kind of sad to see the farm abandoned. I didn't know that was even possible.

^ SAME. They've been there for so long and I'm overjoyed that they've left, but they somehow managed to make me a bit sad.

The season finale was fantastic. I'm actually very excited for the next season (as far away as it is...)

I knew there was a reason I still watched this show. I'm glad they rewarded our loyalty with the first episode of the season that even comes slightly close in tenseness to any of the episodes from the last season. Finally we are back to everyone being on the chopping block :D Now... if they would just kill off Laurie i'd be over joyed.

NSFW:

Positives

Michonne's entrance looked pretty badass
They got off the god damn farm (I was not sad)
Daryl's asian driver joke
Andrea is getting less annoying
T-Dog wanting to take the two white women to the coast (nice try T-Dog!)
Prison coming next season

Negatives

Whiny ass Carl
Everyone became a sharpshooter all of a sudden? 100 headshots in a row? From moving cars? Crossfire doesnt exist in the Walking Dead world?
Hershel's pump shotgun with endless ammo
Lori getting mad at Rick for killing Shane when she wanted him to kill Shane 2 episodes ago
Whiny ass lori and Carol
2 people died who were not relevant one bit. I dont even remember the guy in the rv.
Everyone being overdramatic about Rick not telling his CDC secret. It changes nothing really.
Rick not being able to explain to the group that he killed Shane in self defense. Its not that difficult really. Just dont begin with "I killed my best friend for you people!"

Overall the second half of this season was much better than the first. I am very optimistic about the 3rd season with Michonne, the prison, and the governor. But, i still think the writing sucks :)

wow. what a great season finale. I was surprised to see so much action + interesting human drama. I think TWD has finally gotten closer to capturing the magic of the comics - that was a great cut scene of the new, hooded character ;) also the shot with the prison. I am kinda disappointed in that this show threw both the hooded character and the prison right at the end of Season 2. however, it's a good thing that this show is using comic book-like cliffhangers... about damn time

Daryl's lines and execution were the best this episode - I won't forget that image of him riding on that motorcycle, shotguns and all. they finally fleshed out T-Dog a bit as an outsider. Andrea finally transcended her formally annoying character. Rick emerged as the natural leader once again, with the full approval of Hershel, this time. although I do think the show paints some of Rick's decisions in a contradictory light - meaning that some of his decisions have been shown to not be that good

the characters that died were mostly (or all?) of Hershel's kids, they really torture Hershel in the comics with this sort of thing and it was nice for them to finally follow suit. those characters simply HAD to die

and word up once again to TWD's make-up and effects guru, Greg Nicotero. all the human deaths were brutal, I especially liked that RV one with the splattering blood on the windshield and the lady turning into a human smorgasboard

over all, it seems that this season simply set up the fans for a brilliant Season 3. "the Prison" arc is the red letter, defining arc of TWD story. it's such a pivotal point, as these characters have been struggling to figure out how to survive in this post-apocalyptic world. the hooded character is most certainly a foreshadowing personification of the things to come :)

... I just wish the first part of Season 2 didn't drag its feet so much. over all, I can't wait for next year (if there is one - IF THERE EVER IS AN APPROPRIATE TIME FOR ZOMBIES; THIS IS IT ;))

I'm wondering how many seasons they will spend at the prison. If i recall they were only at the farm for a few pages in the comic. They spent a good amount of time at the prison.

Axl, have you read Invincible by Robert Kirkman or the book Rise of the Governor? Wondering if they are worth the read.

Crossfire doesnt exist in the Walking Dead world?

It would've been genuinely great if a couple of the characters would've been capped by stray bullets. Preferably Lori and Walt Jr.

If Lori gets shot in the head, does her fetus gnaw its way out of her belly, or does zombie life begin at birth?

Rick not being able to explain to the group that he killed Shane in self defense. Its not that difficult really. Just dont begin with "I killed my best friend for you people!"

I completely agree with this. It made no sense why Rick did this, not once, but twice. First he gives the same explanation, or lack of one, to Lori. Then he says it to the group as well. Why not begin with a simple "He was pointing an um GUN at my head with the intention of killing me". Instead he gives a roundabout story that just makes him out to be a cold blooded murderer, and to his own wife and kid on top of it...Why?

not sure if you watch Talking Dead, but on the finale, co-creator Robert Kirkman and executive producer Glen Mazzara explained Lori's reaction in that she wasn't mad at Rick so much as herself since she pit the two guys against one another.

i think Rick's poor communication in how the altercation went down between he and Shane was due to guilt. while it's true it was self-defense, a good part of him *did* want Shane gone.
