Television The Walking Dead

Alan Moore is a boring old twat. LOL. Not sure why he has so many fanbois. Neil Gaiman is the same.
1/2 rate drivel for the under 20 set. Even his bestseller is boring.

I think this post finally set off my troll-dar. I first had my suspicions when you said The Final Cut was a great album, but I think this one confirmed it. You're the guy that goes from forum to forum and says some ridiculous pretentious shit just to get into arguments. But that's cool: if you really enjoyed The Never Ending Story more than Watchmen, then good for you.

For TWD? I predict that they will not kill the boy and they will undoubtedly have more drama about pointless shit while barely any Zombies will be seen. All while they stay comfortably on the farm not doing much of anything while the redneck makes more arrows and T-Dog stands there and does nothing but remain black and bored.

Wow. This is pretty much 3x better writing than TWD TV version.

at least they're introducing Michonne lately. she is going to shake everyone up, for sure

and since freddy likes Shakespeare, they got a pretty damn good British Shakespearean actor to portray the Governor

As a struggling young writer I thank you for your compliment =D However... only 3x? I was hoping 5x maybe closer to 10x better?;)

I really hope the writers of the show won't fuck up that character. Seriously the Governor is one of the greatest villains EVER!!!! If they fuck that up then I will boycott the show. No joke.

I know man. if they fuck up the Governor or Michonne or "the Prison," I will hold my head in shame. it ain't like I'm not used to the big or small screen fucking up comic books, but I really feel as if those writing TWD had to go out of their way to make it shitty. I mean, they could have just followed the comic book in the most linear, boring sense, and it still would have been an at least alright show

the Governor is such a SICK FUCK. one of the best comic villains of all-time, I of course agree

my favorite TWD issue of all-time was that one where Michonne went to the Governor's house (no details here, I know some are still reading the book). the whole time I was reading, I was like - is this POSSIBLE to put into a comic book??

you seem to enjoy good writing as much as I do, although I just read a lot and don't really write that much these days. it's my opinion that TWD is one of the best written comic books of ALL TIME. have you checked out Robert Kirkman's Invincible? I'm not really into superhero comics that much anymore (besides X-Men, can never give them up), but I think it is a really fresh, well-written take on the over-used superhero genre

Well I think the first reason was superbly written. Mainly IMO because Frank Darabont had overall creative control. If he had not been fired I'm am absolutely positive the second season would be so much better than it is now. But yeah I agree. They could have just followed the comic exactly and it would be a great show. But you know as well as I do that that would never happen.

Seriously dude. When I first read that part I was completely floored. I couldn't believe what was happening. SO MESSED UP!!! I just kept thinking this Governor guy needs to die a horrible horrific death.

I do enjoy good writing and I try and practice with free-writes everyday. The thing is I feel most people don't understand how hard it can be to write a story with a good narrative. I'm great at writing essays, speeches, even journalistic writing. But when it comes to narrative and telling a story and drawing someone in with great descriptions I still have a lot to learn. I especially have a problem with writing dialogue between characters in a short story or novel attempt.

But yeah TWD is one of the most well written Graphic Novels out there. Very few others have ever gotten me so absorbed.

As for Invincible nah haven't read that. I am also not that into superhero comics. The last superhero comic I read was Batman: The Long Halloween. Other than that the Graphic novels I usually read are for example A History of Violence, anything by Jeffrey Brown (his Graphic novels aren't for most people who enjoy more mainstream comics as they are mostly just about his life and relationships), and obviously TWD. I use to be a big fan of Sin City and Frank Miller but after 300 (I hated the movie as well as the comic) and watching the movie The Spirit I said fuck it lol. I still like his take on Batman though. And Sin City still holds a special place in my mind because it introduced me to the world of Graphic novels.

Im willing to bet there will be no prison and the governor story arc will take place at the farm. Hows that for saving on production costs? Im starting to get the feeling that somebody at AMC owns that farm and they are just letting them borrow it. All of the actors are probably family members. Dont get your hopes up for the Michonne character.

I am on episode 1 about 20 mins into it. I got a little bit bored for some reason, I don't dig this genre but after hearing the rave about it I tried. I will try again and get through some more tomorrow.

Have you seen the latest episode?

It is starting to look like they might have to abandon the farm now. Thank God.

Nah, theres no way that zombies can break through that barb wire fence. That place is secure!

Wooo! Just in time for the last episode of the season...

Given all of the ready-made material they had to work with, I am voting this one of the most disappointing television seasons of all time.

^

Emphasis on disappointing. It wasn't the worst television possible. But like I said, given the material they had to work with, they failed pretty hard.

I think the amount of material that happened over the course of 12-13 hours could have been condensed into four or even two hours. I mean really, what actually did happen in the second half so far? Discounting the lack of anything actually happening, in an action sense that is, try and think of any emotional progression for any single character over the course of this entire season...It's pretty hard, if not impossible to do. Besides Glenn coming around to the group, all I can think of is Carl has become slightly more self-motivated, and Rick has become slightly more nihilistic. I mean, again, this is over the course of 12 episodes. The dialogue has ranged from mediocre to gratingly annoying. Every line or motif has been done over repeatedly until it became nauseating. Honestly, how many times did we need to have dialogue about Shane being a sociopathic threat? Or how many times did they need to talk about Glenn not wanting them to stay on the farm?

Are the writers afraid of running out of material? From what I understand they have plenty of story already written out for them to use. Beyond that they have an entire zombie apocalypse narrative running in the background that offers endless creative possibilities. Think about what other filmmakers have done with an hour or two movie regarding zombies or an apocalypse, and then think about what has happened over the course of the past twelve hours of this television show. And sure you can come back with something about how this is supposed to be an ongoing story, not a single story-arc like a movie is. In counter to that, yes it is supposed to be an ongoing story. It is supposed to tell a story. It could tell hundreds, but it has chosen to tell almost nothing.

So then, what is a neverending story that actually has no story? Nothing but a cash machine for a cable network.

God, as usual about half of the show was sappy, ridiculous dialogue. I'm not moved by Rick or Lori's dumb speeches. I don't care about Andrea's touching moment with Glenn. I'm sick of Hershell being dumb. I want to see ZOMBIES! This is a ZOMBIE show! Plus I feel like they're all absolutely bi-polar. I guess if you're going through an apocalypse your emotions may be all over the place but god... Lori. Stop. Doing. This.

NSFW:
She gets all weepy in front of Sean. Wasn't she like, a week ago AFRAID of him? Basically HATING him? 8(

Hershell. Stop. Doing. This.

NSFW:
OH GET OUT OF MY HOUSE! GET OUT! Oh nevermind, Lori you should have my room. I'll sleep on the couch. ::soft touch::

Anyway, at least the episode had some good moments. Some decent action though not nearly enough. :\

Edit: I love the shot of Lori they picked for the Wikipedia page. It's pretty representative of how I see her 90% of the time. lol.

<-- Biggest Lori hater of all.

Yakuza - well, Michonne has been confirmed (well as much as a spoiling leak can be "confirmed") to appear in the last episode, I guess we will see in time. also the Governor has been confirmed for Season 3, and that's a sure-fire bet, the actor has already been leaked as David Morrisey (a great call!) and I think the Prison is pretty much all but confirmed for sure for Season 3, and maybe a glimpse of it during the last episode of Season 2

side-bar: I have never quite seen a TV show get as many leaks/spoilers as TWD. I know this show is immensely popular (not so much on BL though - you guys are hard to please!), but damn!

and holy shit!! that second to the last episode was by far THE BEST!! it seems like the AMC suits finally realized that for this series to keep on firing on all cylinders, they're gonna have to spend the type of money they ready and willingly spent in TWD Season 1. I can't wait to see this zombie herd tear up Hershel's farm, and hopefully our troupe will get over-whelmed, T-Dog will die, they will hit the road - and BAM - PRISON!!

it was so nice to see Shane die, although I was hoping Shane would die the same way he brilliantly died in the comics

[comic book spoilers inside]
NSFW:
Carl shoots him as an armed Shane confronts Rick and tells him he wants to essentially kill him and take his place as the leader/husband/father. I will always remember what Carl said after he shot Shane, and saved his father from murder - "it's not like killing the dead ones, Dad!" now that was writing that was indeed BONE-CHILLING
but... it was still nice seeing Carl pop up and have to shoot the zombie before it snacks on Rick. I was at least pleased to see that sort of personal touch

all in all, I think this second half of Season 2 is FAR MUCH BETTER than the first half of Season 2. the show needs to keep this frenetic pace, the same sort of fast and violent pace that is prevalent in the comics

did you all think that last episode was as grand of a spectacle as I did? I have high hopes for this Season's finale, and for the upcoming Season of TWD

and Lori DOES suck. I think it's a good sign that you hate her. I don't think we are supposed to like her in the show or the comics. TWD the comic prints perhaps the MOST fan letters of any comics series, and it was always hilarious seeing the hate-mail for Lori absolutely FLOW in

I also wished Shane had died the way he did in the Comics.

The comics way was incredibly emotional and impacted me very deeply. But the show found a good compromise I think. It may had something to do with the rating of the show. Having Carl do what he did in the comics might have been too much in AMC's opinion. So they found a round about way of showing it lol

Lori is sooooooo fucking USELESS. Seriously what does she do besides stir up pointless drama? At least T-Dog pulls his weight around and tries to protect the group. What does Lori do? Gets pregnant and drives her car into a ditch. Fucking useless.

Judging by past seasons of well-recieved shows, I will start watching this show sometime next year.
