Baldurs Gate 2!!!

that game ate me alive.
a friend recently taught me all about snes ports....now playing chrono trigger for the first time..
yoshis island and the marios have copyright protection though...tragically.
can still play mortal kombat with scorpion yelling "get over here!" like its year 4 all over again.
havent properly played a game in about a year but with the whole on holidays and insomnia thing, chrono trigger is going down a treat.

This from an interview with the developers (Team Ninja) explaining how they drink to get ideas
http://games.kikizo.com/features/itagaki_interview_jul06_p2.asp

Itagaki: The first thing is that you shouldn't think too deeply. Most game developers including myself like to think in depth, so it's important to have time when you're not thinking so deeply. So you know, all those attractive environments in DOA4, we usually come up with the ideas for that and talk about it while we are drinking. Basically, if we have twenty stages, nearly half of them will be based on theory from when we are still sober, and the other half we just try to come up with crazy ideas, while intoxicated. With the fighting title, maybe forty per cent of the stages were based on being loose and fun, but with DOAX2, ninety per cent is loose and fun!

Kikizo: So, how many drinks does it take for ideas to stop being feasible, good ideas, and start being just complete nonsense?

Itagaki: Haha! It's hard to say, because I am drinking pretty much full-time. Of course, there are ups and downs, waves, of how I drink in terms of the amount, but it's a long period of time. In the last ten years - not that you asked this question - I think I had better ideas when I was drinking whisky. When I am drinking shochu, that's a conservative drink, so the ideas are not that great. Beer is just like water to me, so it just helps me and everyone else loosen up a little bit, it doesn't really contribute to coming up with ideas.
Golden =D

I also just found Pizza Tycoon and Theme Hospital, the latter is still possibly my favourite simulation game.

"EPIDEMIC alert!!"

I think I'm going to have to get a different console besides a PC soon. They just don't make the games they used to for PC...

Does anyone have a cheap second hand console they don't want anymore? Or could recommend something? I aint interested in paying $1000 for the latest PS coming out...

i have like an old nintendo 64 thingy.
its not very good tho.

Baldur's Gate II remains the best game ever produced.
Icewind Dale II is almost as good (possibly due to it running the same engine).

bioware for kings!

WoW on pirate servers, and Counter-Strike, 1.6 of course... source eats balls! ahh, CS will last me forever, no need to find another game to fill my computer addiction :D

M4dd0g: Words fail to express the admiration i have for someone who can not only get paid for drinking, but philosophise about which beverage results in the best game ideas!
I'm gonna have to get in on some whisky, i've been out of ideas lately.

As for gaming: I've been getting into FPS's lately. After Unreal Tournament and Tribes, which i loved, i kinda stopped the ol' fps games, because i only ever had dial-up. Multiplayer-centric games aren't very nice to dial-up victims. But, now, at last, i have the connections, and i SUCK. I tried CS:S. I probably should've checked what the controls were before i went in there, because getting stabbed in the back while you are still trying to figure out how to buy stuff isn't exactly productive ;)
I've seen Call of Duty 2 in action, and it provides some awesome senseless destruction.

Also, Rise of Legends brought about some renewed interest in RTS. Im not the world's greatest fan of the resource based 'tech-as-fast-as-you-can' rts like Dawn of War (which didn't stop me from finishing it).
The next dawn of war expansion looks really interesting. I'm hoping their meta-map doesnt make the same mistake as Rise of Legends and put a linear storyline over the top. I'm also disappointed that they havn't put the Tyranids in, they would suit the gameplay much better than some of their present races. :\
In RTS's, i prefer the 'think-at-your-pace-and-plan-long-term' Total War series. Which allows me to gush about Medieval 2. If there is one purpose in my life, it is to play that game. =D

I am very VERY intrigued by Hellgate:London as well. The developers have put up some example weapons. One is a cricket bat. It's been blessed with holy blessing's or something to make it strong and hurt demons. What intrigues me, is that the developers claim the cricket bat can "bash in a demon's skull about as fast as England winning the ashes." :D

Unfortunately, all of these games are played on the proviso that my video card is likely to cease functioning at any moment. It's terrible when you update your device drivers, and to do so must update windows, and discover you are a 'victim' of 'software counterfeiting' (...:\ )

i spent a considerable time on boxing day playing this game
loud screams of "ZACK ISLAAAAAAAAAAAAAND" were had by all, and the 'running across foam mats on the pool' game is the best minigame i've ever played

I've pretty much given up on PC gaming after wasting most of my early 20s playing CS and NS and any othe fps that came out.

So now it's Nintendo DS lite for me only - Mario Kart DS. I'm just waiting for the Wii now. Oh, and my Street Fighter II arcade machine that I have.

i just bought Guitar Hero
my hands are fucking killing me, but its the best pain ever
the game is excellent

I'm intrigued as to how four coloured buttons can in anyway emulate playing a guitar (not ripping here just intrigued as to how 4 buttons can constitute a myriad of notes and chords) so feel free to enlighten me on how the game works.

^ 5 buttons

theres 5 coloured circles at the bottom of your screen, which are attached to 5 vertical columns. down these columns come other circles, and you must press the button on the controller and strumming the strum bar (in place of the pickups) at the same time the descending circles overlap the circles at the bottom of the screen. exactly like dance dance revolution.

each of the 5 circles are ascending 'notes'. with different combinations of buttons being pressed simultaneously (chords) or just long notes which you can fuck with using the whammy bar.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-Ow13bCiVQ&search=guitar hero <-- check that video to see how it all works

That actually makes a lot of sense. I'm an idiot :) Actually it's pretty much the way music has been played in any way in any video game to date...

Have you played Br's Infected yet? (One of my favourite songs - Deep :)).

Just got "God of War" on PS2 and are very surprised at the quality of the title.

The story is very well thought out and for be a slash and bash type game the action is far more complex, but not tediously so, that sets new levels of enjoyment.

The graphics, sound, music are awesome. really cool game.

And you get to see boobbieees in it!! yay a game with boobies. (heheh wifey was a bit surprised at that)

after having watched the e3 promo video and thinking "ey, that golf simulator looks alright", and then discovering there's super swing golf pangya, done by the chaps of albatross 18 fame, i'm in. bring on the wii :D
