The UK in the EU: "Brexit"

Agreed that someone will have to push the button. EU is already pissed and wants to move forward.

But I also agree with that article that whoever does push the button will do the political equivalent of falling on one's sword. Probably both for their personal political career and their party.
I think that will depend upon some other factors like the deal that will eventually be negotiated with the EU. If the conditions are right, britain will quickly recover from the now innevitable recession. That will go at the cost of many brexit voters. But i don't know how that would eventually pay off, politically. Boris Johnson and the other brexit tories, want britain to become a reagonomic's type of capitalist 'oasis' in what they see as the socialist desert that is europe. Especially the not very well off now, and that's the group of people who also tend to have voted brexit, will be considerably less well of then. But i believe that reagan is still incredibly popular in the states, so who knows.

This is parallel ti thé Clinton nomination in the us. It is yet another example of old people stealing the future of the young.

How will more immigrants (legal or otherwise) shake up our economy ? For better or worse, you didn't state,so does it matter if they come to contribute or to further drain the already strained social safety net ?

What do you mean by "a real threat to our way of life" ? Not being a wise guy but that sounds almost "Trumpian".

What are the "harder questions" you are referring to.

Seriously MBC,I'm a bit puzzled and curious as to where you're coming from.I am not trolling you.

A strain on the security net will require those that are in power to decide whether they expand it or abolish it. If they expand it they will take it from the middle class which will mobilize them to vote those out of office. If they abolish it they will be revealed as the fraudsters they are and voted out, and people that will actually ask the question "why are we one of the wealthiest nations but we force many to live in poverty?" will be voted in...win/win.

I admit I am looking far down the road, at least a decade. Our immigration policy is horrible. We have an obstructionist congress that will dilute, or not pass any bills that will streamline or ensure that the process of becoming a citizen (which will create more money through taxes)makes those that work here illegally want to become citizens. I live in florida. We have lots of immigrants here. Most work. The culture of the countries they come from is that of hard work. If they were legal, the taxes would be rolling in. If we had a massive influx of immigrants that needed settled we would be forced into a position of change or perish.

Here is a hard question for you to ask yourself MMT; "Are these poor huddled masses yearning to breath free really different from my ancestors who believed that the US was the promised land?"

OnTopic: I can't wait to see which party must fall on their sword.

Why have a democracy at all then? "Democracy is great as long as I agree with your vote."
I don't think most people should be allowed to vote. I think a test should be administered to ensure you are a suitable voter.

I mean the average joe knows more about a pint than a free trade deal.

I agree a test should be administered. I'd include a multiple choice section. Everyone who has graduated from college in the past 10 years would fail as they would circle the most politically correct answer (like I did in college, and got As and Bs all my exams.)

If you don't have anything intelligent to add to the discussion, maybe you should go do something else?

Start an anti-intellectual pride movement? You could fondle each others' weapons and whisper in one another's ears about what a sheltered life you've had.

real bright to drop out of college in a country where you(r parents?) have to pay for it.

But hey, at least he's not some imaginary and convenient stereotype...

I got a grant and didn't drop out I got wrapped up in the criminal justice system. I learned more in jails and institutions than I learned in college.

Granted, I took liberal arts, so my degree would have had the value of toilet paper. I wipe my ass with anyone's sociology/english/transexual albino-hispanic study degrees. If I went back it would be for STEM or business administration, something worth studying.

This is unsettling. I moved to the south from new york. The casual racism from all races astounds me. I would like to hear from people that live in england what the casual racism is like around there...because these links are far beyond just casual racism.

Same old people who were racist before the vote being racist now. Give it a week and it will disappear again as the media will get bored and not report what is essentially always present, in every country. It's a non-story. It also hasn't given it a voice, this is nonsense. Don't give the racists any attention and they'll go back to eating wotsits and watching TV.
