Hello,

I have been researching this site for some time and have gained a lot of condescending advice.

A little background on me:

3 years ago I was prescribed Percocet 5/325? for Crohns Disease, after getting IV Dilauded from the hospital. This built up a tolerance

5 months ago I was diagnosed with Giant Cell Myocarditis (only about 100 diagnosis in the world so far, so relatively not much research on it) which resulted in my heart failing and getting a heart transplant. While in the hosp. I was given: Morphine, IV Dilauded, IV Fetynl, Tylenol 3, and Oxys. Once out of the hosp after a few months, I was prescribed Dilauded in pill form, Oxycontin 10mg and Oxycodone 15mg. One for regular use, the others for breakthrough pain.

Now that it has been 5 months since the four open heart surgeries with other complications, I still experience pain when I move certain ways or breath in deeply. However, since the narcotics are very strict now and my age (21 automatically get looked at as a drug seeker), they tell me I shouldn't be experiencing pain and to take Tylenol OTC. As I am on much other anti-rejection meds I cannot take Advil, Motrin or any other 'pain relief' meds that are stronger OTC.

Bottom line, I am still in pain and feel restricted from life. They refuse to assist me with even a mild narcotic and point me straight to Tylenol. I've been researching OTC pain meds and came across this (pst & ppt) in an article/forum.

I have read pods are better than seeds and seeds are better than pods.

Pods; Grind into a fine powder, soak in simmering water for x (as it has varied in every post) amount of minutes stirring occasionally. adding/not adding; lime/lemon juice, grapefruit juice, calcium (forgot the second word, think sulfate or something). Filter then drink/as well as just drink the whole thing. I won't be smoking it as that can cause heart disease by itself.

Seeds; 1 - 3 lbs soaked in a 2 liter bottle with cold/hot/warm water with/without lime/lemon juice/grapefruit juice then shake for x amount of min then filter and drink/let sit for another x amount of min then filter. That the longer you soak the better/ the longer you soak the worse.

Buy in bulk at bulk stores, however the only seeds in bulk i have found locally are 1/2 pound for $4. Brand: a color Baron (not saying the color in attempt to not exactly label it). However I have not been able to find Pods as they seem to be the better way to control dosage. No local flower stores that have them and no luck online, seem to find only sites that sell 1000+ seeds for growing the pod or sites that say Pods discontinued. If anyone is capable in helping me with this, I'm unfamiliar with the exact rules as I am completely new at posting but please point me in the right direction or a "" for a search keywords.

For pods, i have not been able to get a clear - dried pods work or only fresh pods work.

I am located in Central New Jersey, Burlington county if that makes a difference.

Please help me in clarifying the truth of the 'recipe' and if at all possible point me in the right direction.

Thank you for any and all your help. I have read through the Mega Poppy Seed Thread part 1 2 and 3 along with many others regarding this subject.

Did your doctors find out that you were abusing your pain medication or something? Why would they just take away all those narcotics they were at first giving you. Age should have nothing to do with it, if you have chronic pain you can go to a pain management doc and get on a regimen of narcotics?

Not sure if posting this explicitly about poppy pod tea is okay, but from what I know you don't use seeds you just use the pods. They are easily found online.

i may have some advise as far as what to expect from doctors, and in general as far as pain management goes. the decision to use narcotics for **long term** treatment is an extreme decision for a person your age and the dr. that treats you. It DOES matter that your only 21 years old. (sorry to disagree with you Meddie)

i do understand being young and suffering the burden of chronic pain, i have had chronic pain since my teens (moderate-severe). i'm talking about from a very bad and rare connective tissue disease, causing complications that are severe on the musculoskeletal system, and lots of other complications, like nerve compression disorder and central/peripheral nerve pain, digestive system complications, headaches.. the list goes on.. it is all day everyday, till no end. and it is very disturbing. psychologically this has made me a mess, i went for many years without any treatment, and spend a lot of time in isolation because of the suffering. It has only been about a year since i have started treatment, and even that is scarce. the best doctors in the field, take a very long time to initiate patients into, "Chronic Opioid Therapy", as this is a very serious matter that takes time. DO NOT think of it as a right, because people don't have rights. you have been told wrong, and you can get fucked for years and years.. you have the right to shut the fuck up, in the eyes of doctors.. i'm not kidding, they don't give a fuck if you suffer. you need to have GREAT patients when it comes to this matter, at your age especially. don't start using opioids on your own, thats WRONG. you will only cause yourself problems. end of story, that's not a joke. you can't handle it plain and simple, you need to see a doctor, get a DX for pain, and start treatment the right way.

*** you have my condolences. this is not something to mess around with. you need to see a psychologist that deals strictly with pain psychology, thats the first step you should take. ***

understand this, you have many many many years ahead of you. take your time. do it proper. don't expect them to just give you narcotics to pop whenever, all day everyday, (around the clock) .. right away, or ever.
but if you take your time, and exercise great patients, keep a *** pain journal *** and talk everything over with your doctors, that handle your chronic pain specifically, that means pain management specialists. PSYCHOLOGIST, and Dr. MD (pain clinic). never fuck up, never try and fool anyone, never go behind there backs to other doctors trying to get more meds, NO BS. EVER. and don't self medicate. this is no joke.

*** lets hear about your pain.. expand, start talking about it with friends/family, psychologist.... ***

how is this effecting you psychologically???

that's how you start, open up, learn about what your going through.. IF you don't think it's this big of a problem.. don't fuck with opioids PERIOD.

my 2cents.

IM not sure what you meant by you got "condescending" advice?....did you mean "conflicting" advice? That is making me a bit confused here.

Anyway......first of all.....if you have legitimate pain that is serious enough that you need narcotics, it should not be hard whatsoever to find narcotics. You just need to go to the right doctor, prefferably a pain management specialist. Since you have so many disorders, and have had a heart transplant, I would imagine you have plenty proof as to why you need painkillers. Allthough, I am not a doctor and I could be wrong. With all the new technology nowadays maybe having a heart transplant doesnt leave as much residual pain as it use to. I dont really know. Maybe you arent suppose to be feeling pain at this point in time and thats why the doctors cut you off because they think you should be healed nice and good by now, but apparently your not. This may come off as drug seeking behavior too them.

Anyway, as far as the pod tea and the seed tea......since you read through all the threads allready and got conflicting advice and are not sure exactly what advice too follow.....what do you think that means? It probably means that different people prefer different methods/techniques over others and therefore you need to experiment to find out which one works best for you. Just because you posted a thread called "The Truth About Poppy Tea" doesnt mean that all of a sudden, the grandmaster of poppy tea is going to come out of the shadows and reveal the secret recipe that works better than all others. THERE IS NO "TRUE" RECIPE
It has alot to do with personal preference, experimentation, and how good you are at perfoming the actual process of making the tea.......and of course this takes time. Before you can find the "True" poppy tea recipe for you, you will more than likely need to use trial and error to determine what works best.
You are lucky to have all that advice from people here at BL to go off of. I can tell you one thing....thats a whooooole lot better than doing this without ANY idea of what to do.
Just look at all the advice/methods given in the poppy tea megathread, and use the technique that sounds the best to you, and hope for the best. Then, if it doesnt work out exactly as you had planned, tweak your methods a little bit next time.....and then do it again and again, until you have come up with the "true" recipe that works best for YOU. My advice is to try to find the most experienced poppy tea maker there is on BL and ask him/her.....im not sure how you will determine who is the most experienced, but ill leave you to figure that one out.

Once again....there is no "True" poppy tea recipe. There are many techniques that may yield many different results. I hope you find the one that works best for you and kills your pain. Good luck.

and FYI.....in my experience Pods are much better(potent) than seeds *snip* Have fun.

Given the high prices of pods at the current time, I recommend eating the dried pods rather than making tea with them to keep from losing any alkaloids. The papaver somniferum pod is full of morphine, codeine, and some other alkaloids that all have physical effects. The alkaloids can be milked from the plant when alive to get opium latex, or can be removed from the dried walls of the pods by soaking.

i was just bringing to the table, that in todays society, pain, and comprehensive pain management is a very hot issue. you really need to take it more seriously then .. oh i'll just try my hand at some pods.. it will bring you relief , but you are no doctor, and you really don't understand what your getting into. these guys are not doing you any favors by making plain, what is in fact a very complex issue. i really think you should consult a doctor and follow his/her advise, or see another doctor.. get another opinion.. so on. and also pain psychology is a real form a therapy, that can help you sort out the whole sense of pain, and effects it has on you, over years and years, chronic pain is an enormous burden, one that has so many effects on you, or anyone that suffers. you should seek relief right away because if you are in moderate-severe pain, over time, that will seriously effect you. there is no way around it, pain that difficult, is really very bad, it's not just something that could be summed up by restricted, though i totally understand what you mean.

good luck, whatever you decide, muster up a higher conscience^ and really think this through. it really is a serious matter, one of consequences.

i don't mean to dig.. or try and insult anyone, but i must say, that on these boards, most of what you read, is written by people that have such little regard for consequence. do yourself a favor and seek professional help, and get it taken care of, don't give up, and start using dope on your own.

I'm an expert at using poppy seeds for withdrawal and for themselves. PM me if you don't get all your answers.

Poppy tea works well if you get the right kind of poppies and prepare it correctly, but the bottom line is that you shouldn't be having to use poppy tea. If you have legit pain issues, your opioids should /not/ have just been yanked without any specific reason. "Your too young to be taking this kind of medicine" is a bullshit excuse, period. I'd like to know exactly why they stopped your narcotic pain medication. That would make it easier for us to give you better input and better answers to your question...

Making poppy tea is not rocket science, it is literally just making tea. Pods or seeds both work, the rest is the same as making regular tea.

In your case you should listen to MAJ Pain and keep a pain journal which you can show to another, more understanding doctor.

damn man that really sucks, I usually am very skeptical of people who claim they have chronic pain cause most of the time they are just addicts that are lying to themselves cause they know they need their script. But 4 open heart surgeries heart transplant that is some serious shit and you deserve to have adequate pain treatment. I would just go to different docs till you meet one thats willing to treat you those shitty doctors that are refusing you pain relief do not deserve your money. It sucks that I know so many people who scam there doctors cause they are either addicts or make a living selling their pills and they ruin it for people like you who actually need the shit.

you said it.. it's a sad state of affairs, people that are fucking around like that awt to burn at the steak for what they are causing! or at least go to prison for a while

just had to respond to that one, as i am following this thread, and that really hits home. my heart, and soul are with all of us

here's how i've been doing it for the past 5 years

slice the pods in half (can be obtained easily online) and seperate the seeds. make sure that the pods themselves have no unnatural scoring, or they have been harvested for their resin while fresh, and you are getting trash.
put 15 halved pods in a blender or spice grinder (i prefer the spice grinder, you have to do it in smaller increments, but you get a nice powder out of it and it minimizes the fiberous stuff)
combine in a large saucepan with around 6-8 cups water. let simmer on low heat for a bit. i can't give you exact times because i do this by taste--i'd say about 10-20 minutes. it will look thicker than water, and when you taste it, all of the bitter receptors on your tongue will go off. it's gross. then add 4 chai spice tea bags. pure poppy tea tastes like vomit (literally) and chai is the only tea i've found that even begins to mask the horrid flavor of poppy. if 4 isn't enough, throw another one in there. let simmer another 5-10 minutes. you don't ever want it to come to a boil, just let it chill on 2 or 3 for a very low simmer. if it is reducing too much, you can add water in small increments. add sugar to taste, remove from heat, let cool, then strain through a coffee filter or cheese cloth into a small pitcher.
drink this stuff SLOWLY and in VERY SMALL DOSES. your first time, make sure you have people around that you trust with your life, just in case. drink with respect and caution. slowly sip until you feel a bit better....because once you are feeling a bit better, in about 20-40 minutes you will feel a LOT better. the recipe i described above is not the strongest, and it can be tweaked accordingly, but it makes the stuff palatable if you are planning on drinking it. i have been making this recipe for years because i found myself in a similar (but nowhere as grevious) situation. i was in a car wreck when i was 7, 10, 15, and 22, i'm now 25, and still having issues with getting into PM because i was a body piercer for 7 years and am covered in tattoos---those stereotypes are hard to overcome. my ring finger and pinky on my left hand are almost completely useless, they just sort of sit there and twitch, which is why i'm no longer a piercer, due to nerve damage in my spine and shoulder. my cyotic nerve was almost severed in the 2nd to last car wreck which makes muscle spasms and numbness and shooting pain in my right leg and lower back a daily part of my life. oh yeah, and i might need a hip replacement. i'm due for surgery on monday (unrelated, this time my gallbladder decided to stop working) and you can count on the fact that there will be a pitcher of this in the fridge when i get home. none of the crap they are going to give me will be able to help me the way this will.
i do agree with the above posts, and say that you ought to try a few other docs--keep a journal, be proactive. but, unfortunately, docs really don't seem to care all that much how much pain you are in, i've learned, and if you exhaust your resources, and come up empty, this stuff really does help.

Hello again,

I would have replied sooner but I wasn't sure how long it would take for a reply from other people.

To answer your questions;

I was prescribed oxycodone 15mg and diluaded (im not sure of the dose) in pill form right out of the hospital. The oxycodone was every 6 hours and the dilauded every 3. Then followed up with a pain management clinic and they recommended oxycontin 10 mg every 8 hrs since it lasts longer and i would have less pills process through my liver (already taking a large amount of anti-rejection) and oxycodone 15mg (I think it was between 4-6 hrs) as breakthrough.

When July came around I was getting rather dirty (for a lack of better word) looks and remarks from the doctors at the hospital (have to go bi-weekly for a biopsy) because the pain management clinic was linked in with them so my hosp. docs knew what i was getting prescribed. To rather quote a Nurse practitioner over a phone call "you gotta get off these pills, you have to go out and live, your gonna lose the value of life on these things. You shouldn't be experiencing pain anymore. Tylenol is your friend" These were along the lines of some of the subtle, in my opinion, hints of you're full of shit.

The hospital has a general time frame in which after a heart transplant should stop having pain. However I was cut open on four separate occasions April 3 (LVAD), April 6 (RVAD), April 23 (Body went in shock, found I was bleeding internally and had numerous blood clots throughout my body) and April 24 (I received the gift of life) this year along with other complications (blood clots, Hematoma, Lungs collapsing). So all of these operations my body didn't really have time to heal before it was cut open, and ribs busted again for another operation. Usually people don't have all their operations within a 21 day period.

I have talked this over with my parents and my sister (LPN) as well as a friend (RN). My parents believe me and my sister told me I could be having phantom pain (they cut quite a few nerves) and also I don't remember it by name but it was the scar tissue building up internally (as i have 19 holes in me and the long cut down my chest) from all the times they were cutting over the same scar and then kind of bonding with my tissue internally so when i move or breath deep its pulling on tissue as well. Sorry I can't remember the medical term for it, but this was just a though from my sister and friend, besides the obvious, I had major surgery 4 times in a small period of time.

As for the reason I got cut off. From the hospital giving me dirty looks like I'm a lying drug addict, and the pain being able to tolerate so long as I don't try to; lift anything to heavy, turn of bend my torso, breath in deep, the hic-ups are TERRIBLE, stretch, etc...

I canceled my follow up appointment with the Penn Pain Management Clinic and bought them from a friend (no judgment, but got too expensive as I wasn't approved for work yet!). It wasn't the doctors cutting me off, It was me cutting off the meds. A doc actually referred to me as a "model patient" for them(as in getting of the pain program quickly). Now it's been 5 months and I find it frustrating that I have to deal with these restrictions when I know when I was on the pain meds I felt like, Normal again... Another note about 5 months, they didn't believe me at 2 and a half months, they're gonna believe me now?

This is why I was seeking a new method of self-medicating. I know that doctors can only prescribe a certain amount, thats why they sent me to the pain clinic. But, to be honest, it's all the looks and what people think of me that make me nervous, awkward, even scared to go back to the doctors.

I however did make an appointment for the Pain Management Clinic this Friday. I'm going to try to ignore the way people look and think of me. As my friend the RN and sister LPN did explain to me young people get looked at immediately as drug seeking. I even felt guilty askin for the daily dose of pain meds while i was in the hospital with tubes and machines hooked up to me.

I am very sorry for the long response! And i thank you for all your feedback, I just wanted to try to make sure I answered everyones questions.

I just read this thread and it sounds to me like you are in quite a situation here. I believe that you have legitimate pain but I also think its going to be a very difficult task getting the proper medication to manage that pain.
Unfortunately we dont live in a society that is very just or fair....we live in a society that is based on assumptions, money, greed, and more money.
If you try to get pain medicine from a specialist, even with all your medical issues and history, he/she will "assume" you are a drug seeker. That is a cold hard fact of the world we live in. It is human nature to seek out something that will give you pleasure, so there are alot of drug addicts out there in the world because of it, and as a result, you will be viewed as one of these people because of your age and because of the type of medication you need.
You have a long painfull road ahead of you and I hope you get lucky and find a good understanding doctor who truly wants to help you instead of milk your bank account.

To add, this isn't supposed to be chronic pain. Just while I'm still healing, though they did tell me it could take 6 months to 1 year before i would start to feel normal again. But it seems hard for them to believe that it still hurts. I've never had any history with drugs, I don't even smoke pot. (makes people have the memory of a goldfish). Had this not had happened, i wouldn't want pain medicine to feel normal again. I would already feel good, well, normal. Of course this saved my life so i am grateful to be alive, I would just like to feel normal again.

Druidus,

im going to see a doctor this Friday and hope for the best, but would still like to learn about this as a fall back plan, though I am not allowed to send a PM yet.

I read this with myself before me, as anyone would. for me your age is a dead giveaway, you are 21 afterall. this fact coupled with the thought that, maybe you are very inexperienced, rings true to most experienced readers. it suprises me more that no one here brings to light the place of psychology more on this topic, since it is afterall perhaps the most importain marker for the human experience, that is of one subjected to pain.

much more could be spoken of, but it is really, None of ours best of judgements to say, as if we are health care profesioals set before you, in an attempt to comprehend your situation in this frequently harsh and cruel existance, that you may infact be suffering such cruel reality. this is for you to bring to your people, face to face. You must come out as clean, and responsive to the truest of your position in nature. taking narcotics on your own in a cordance with your own will, is not going to do you any favors today or soon to follow. because you see, you must muster all that is within, bring forth, to one said profesional, in order to make your case known!....... do this young man, and take your place, in this life, we must do these things properly, and in good order, because you see, good order, is what is present. weather we want to belief our selfes of this fact, you are in a position to gain from this good order!

good luck to you, i hope you are able to withstand, as i have, as many before us have.. amoung those who so often choose a longer road of....... a compication of ones own will to stay on TOP , above the suffering, to lose your feet in what is to be, with or without proper order!, take this, go with great strength, and it is with great knowledge you will present forth, to those that can help you best!

Edit:
To add, this isn't supposed to be chronic pain. Just while I'm still healing, though they did tell me it could take 6 months to 1 year before i would start to feel normal again. But it seems hard for them to believe that it still hurts. I've never had any history with drugs, I don't even smoke pot. (makes people have the memory of a goldfish). ahh, the situation speaks shorter duration.. for your farther future, i suggest you hold off as long as possible.

very glad to hear, you may after all forget this time . good luck to ya sir

The pain management appointment proved this may be a chronic pain. Many heart transplant patients still complain about pain that lowers the value of life. Considering I still have wire inside my chest holding things together. As well as the scar tissue binding with other tissue creating a pull when moving.
