Great thread. It is good to get a dose of reality, sprinkled in with all these stories of how great X is.
One thing to note is:
If you read an alcoholics story of drinking, whats does that make you thinking of alchol.
If you read a speed addicts story of tweaking , what would that make you think of speed.
You empathise with the addict and demonise the drug. But was is situational factors at cause or stable internal factors? Did the scene drag her in or did she have an susceptable addictive personality?
Little from column A , little from column B?
With anything really fun there is always a chance of addiction, and always people who go too far.
Drinking,Drugs, Gambling and other activities can be extremely harmful. But that doesn't mean most people can't do them safely.
Whats my point?
'learn from others mistakes'
'moderation'
'as soon as "drug" (insert any activity name) taking effects others parts of your life, you may have a problem'

From what the story said, the person sounds like a melbournian (the Docks)
For ages now in my many travels to melbourne for parties etc have resulted in a tuff struggle to get quality MDMA pills down there.
There a lot of speed pills down there if not more than sydney which is a disgrace i think.
Bring on THE MDMA BABY!
------------------
You know the drill,
Slam down that pill!

Sydney gets the bomb MDMA mate...
If you cant get it in Sydney, you'll never get it.
If you know where to look it will surround you.
And the MDMA rut, well, 'thats how i'm living!'
Peace

My initial reaction to this piece is to wonder whether it is a fictional tale crafted by an anti-drug organization.
My second reaction is that it could be real, but the author has no sense of propriety in her life. They do things even when it hurts them, they don't learn from their lessons, they don't have sex, they dance 12 hours on pills, they don't take 10 minutes out of the week to do simple chores. They continue for months doing the same thing and having shitty weekends. If something doesn't feel good anymore, stop doing it!
My third reaction is that whether it's fictional, real, or embellished, there are lessons to draw out of this. Of course moderation, a balanced lifestyle, and examining your life. But my main concern is how people deify E and replace their own vision of happiness with the chemical one. Of course they overlap a lot, but not when you go over the line. If you boil down all your happiness potential in life to dancing and pills, you're fucked anyways and will be taken out of the gene pool; it's not a viable long-term strategy, plus there are so many more facets to the human experience, you are debasing yourself.

Great post MunkE Mc and all the others who contributed.
I have to agree with liquidocean - whether it is real or just fiction it is still important to give a "heads up" about the down side of our culture. Too many people get carried away with the euphoria and forget the reality until that reality bites.
A friend of mine was heading down a similar path. It was only due to the help of his partner and friends that he managed to step off the path and get his life back (he is still with his partner and still has most of his friends

).
I guess it is all about knowing the risks and doing all possible to moderate those risks. Above all enjoy....
