The Travel Thread - Second Destination

What's your profession spadey? The recession seems to have hit here too, it took me 3 months to find a job and I burnt up my savings during that time. What I've noticed so far is 417 visa = doing the work illegal immigrants do in Europe, picking fruit or working for a tradie, being treated like scum either way.

It was fun anyway, spent two months in a hostel with a bunch of guys in the same situation and we had a ball of a time there. Apart from the odd day job, I didn't find work 'cause I'm not into doing c**n-work.

I can see why you're working out the summer over here, so you can head over to Aus for the better weather, but it's worth considering that Perth n Darwin are both going to be pretty good weather in the next few months (i think...?) and if you get really fed up with your job you could just scoot over early Down Under? I know you've got the mental block against working when out there, but you might actually find something kinda bearable if you're lucky, with some pretty sound folks. Beats pissing around with your current muppet boss and stuff, anyway!

Don't have enough cash at the moment to being going now. I'm going for a holiday initially and to do some travelling not to find work, if I enjoy it and want to stay then I can look for work. If all goes to plan here I'll be going there with 4 months saving, or much less if I'm let go from work which looks more and more likely as time goes on. :|

I don't have one. I've been working an admin job for past 6 months but it's in no way going to be my career, uni and other part time jobs before that.

Reckon I'm going to take my dad up on his offer of LA, Fiji, NZ, Oz he reckons I won't need much spending money then I can spend a few months in Oz after that. Wooo! :D

Not if you plan to go travelling for a year and don't want to be paying a loan payment every month.

just back from turkey, was nice and relaxing

flew into antalya in southern turkey near the coast then drove two hours to a place called mahmutlar (near alanya)

real muslim place (chants on loud speakers blasting from the mosques around five times a day)

there are mosques everywhere and pretty much everyone is muslim, barely any irish or british tourists although the area is starting to get built up and the main tourism seems to come from russia or eastern european countries

ended up in some turkish bar and the atmosphere seemed to be pretty hostile towards anyone who was not of arabic descent, still went back the next day though for another look as we wanted to avoid any polished tourist traps.

also got a turkish bath, full with massage etc - was a strange experience but definitely recommend it

brought home a turkish pipe and some mad flavoured tobacco too

some pics

Looks cool Red Arrow.

I think I've made a decision on my travel plans, will do the LA, Fiji, NZ, Oz trip then spend a few months in Oz and if I have plenty of cash a few trips to SE Asia etc.

The midday news Thursday showed health personnel wearing face masks greeting all passengers arriving on international flights with a health card to be filled out with information on countries visited prior to Cuba and whether they have exhibited cold symptoms in the last 10 days.

Cuban airport workers are also interviewing flight crews upon arrival as to whether they observed passengers exhibiting possible flu symptoms on the plane. Should a passenger be singled out, medical workers would board the plane, according to the TV report, and immediately remove them to Havana’s Tropical Medicine Institute.

I'm going to have to load up on Beechams flu plus before I get on the plane, eeek.

^ Hahaha, eDDe's going to be spending his Cuban holiday inside some Commie hospital/jail/detention type effort. Unlucky son.............

Nice one man. Looks lovely :D Was in Turkey myself a couple of times. Really great holidays both times. Was Marmaris we were in, seemed to be plenty happening, very cheap booze and loads of gorgeous women about =D

Was really hot when we were there though, remember it being as much as 57 degrees one day!!!8o

Looks great mate, I can't wait. :D

New Zealand and Fiji also. =D

Then AUSTRALIA! =D =D

With side trips to Bali & SE Asia mainland too. =D

why anyone would want to go to la i dont know

a huge population in a city filled with smog with no central area but merely spread out mini-cities with a shit public transport network and massive traffic problems on the highways, eh fuck that!

plus loads of fat people ;)

You could say that about anywhere then list loads of downsides but it doesn't matter as I want to go and I look forward to it.

Of course you do. In fact, if your Dad wasn't taking you there, it would be number 1 on your list!! 8)

No it wouldn't be number 1 on my list but I still want to go there. Don't try and tell me differently.
