The Travel Thread - Second Destination

If somehow I get fucked over by the bank / my overdraft and don't have a job after next month and can't get another job ASAP then I might need to re-think going to Oz and go somewhere where the standard of living is cheaper. Really set on Oz like but sure I'd fun wherever I go.

you could just withdraw it all in cash and hope you dont lose it 8)

How would that help? I'd get fucked over on overdraft charges if I withdrew all my money.

you could drop into a few poker halls and show your "cough cough" skills "cough cough" that you couldnt even beat me heads on with. Well you could probably make a bit of money playing a bit of poker out there for fun if you really think you are good enough.

Just a suggestion

I've never seriously claimed to be good at poker, never could make a living from it.

Its not if you stayed sober when you played, granted that would be hard for you cider addict. ;)

Because most likely they would all be a bit tipsy and you would walk away with the money, if you bet like $10AUD on a match and it was 5 players or something, then thats $40AUD profit

Went to the bank today to discuss finances, given completely different information on my overdraft again. Apparently confirmed now that it goes down to £1500 interst free come June, which is fine, I accounted for that and even being £500 over would only result in around £5 interest a month. Not too shabby. No need to rethink my travel plans just yet.

Wanted to find out about graduate loans and overdraft repayment loans etc but was just given some forms to fill in as the adviser new nowt as per every other RBS employee I've spoken to.

Now I just need to get kept on at work and everything will be on track.

Just had an interesting offer from my dad. He has 6 weeks off come mid December and wants to do UK - LA (one week) to Fiji (one week) to NZ (3 weeks) to Oz (one week). He would pay the flights and accomodation and I'd just need spending money and not that much either if past trips with him are anything to go by, he tends to pay for most things. It would mean me staying in the UK until later than planned which is a downside but finishing off in Oz would suit me fine as I could just continue from there and after 6 weeks travelling chill like a muthafucka on Bondi or Manly beach before doing a bit more travelling round Australia.

Decisions, decisions.

When were you planning to go anyway?

Only a couple of months wait, I'd go for it.

I was planning on going October. If I get kept on at work the thought of working for an extra 2 months is a killer! If I don't get kept on at work I suppose it gives me more time to get a new job and make the cash up. I'm sure if all else fails I can get a job at the call centre again and rattle the hours in. Best solution is the bank giving me a load of cash in a loan and me deffering the payment for 12 months, can quit my job early and go travelling for longer. =D

Fuck the debt I'll worry about it later. ;)

Of course I like my dad brokenbrain, we've been away travelling / holidaying before, few arguments but nothing too serious. Did a month with him last summer, could probably do 6 weeks no problem.

Spade, Manly is much better than Bondi!

I'd go with your Dad. Doesn't seem much downside to me, he might even help you kick your benzo addiction. And you'd get to travel for longer.

Aye seems like quite a good idea, see a wider variety of places too and then I'd be ready for a total chillout when I arrived in Oz which is exactly what I'm after.

If I was kept on at work and worked till end of November I could have saved up a small fortune, easily over £5k. Then take out a bank loan and I could stay away from home for about a year. :D

^ Why bother taking out the bank loan? You'll only have to pay it off when you get back, which will delay your next travels.

I might need the loan if I don't get kept on at work and come June I can no longer apply for a graduate loan so need to get my finger out if I want this. Can deffer the payment for up to 12 months which means I can spend a long time larging it up abroad then worry about it later. :|

If I wait to find out the situation at work, then don't get kept on I'll be too late to get the loan so I'll not even have enough cash to go away.

Defer payments for 12 months!?
Does this mean there's no interest to pay for 12 months or you don't need to make a minimum payment each month?

Nah the interest builds over the 12 months but you don't start paying anthing until a year later.

I can see why you're working out the summer over here, so you can head over to Aus for the better weather, but it's worth considering that Perth n Darwin are both going to be pretty good weather in the next few months (i think...?) and if you get really fed up with your job you could just scoot over early Down Under? I know you've got the mental block against working when out there, but you might actually find something kinda bearable if you're lucky, with some pretty sound folks. Beats pissing around with your current muppet boss and stuff, anyway! :D
