The Travel Thread - Second Destination

I'd be keeping an eye on the exchange rate too spadey, it's currently the lowest its ever been and this place doesn't look so expensive anymore.

If your not boozing every night AUD$100 is too much! and to save money as well some hostels off free/cheaper accommodation for a few hours cleaning.

What the fuck is woofing? Is it like dogging?

WWOOFing is basically just working for a bit on farms or ranches or other places to get a free bed and food for a couple of nights or longer.

Sounds like a good idea to me for low budget travel, also that couchsurfing id never heard of before which also sounds like a pretty good idea for low budget travel.

I might have to look into some of this stuff if i get bored of my degree and decide id rather live on the road. Or even for after my degree for some travel time while im still young.

Hahaha we've got you sussed spade! 8o

Im planning Holland in July this year for a mates birthday 4-5days i think! Then i've already booked a hotel in Belguim for I Love Techno, never been but the line up is always class! Also hoping to hit Ibiza in september for a week of madness with the boys.. :D

Then what i really want to do is go traveling next summer once i save up some cash and go to Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Figi, maybe for year or two, would take a long time to travel around and see all australia and new zealand have to offer. A couple of mates we there recently too. :D I'll be sunning it up on Bondi Beach with the ozzie hunnies. Barbecues in winter. Swimming in the Great barrier Reef. Sky Diving In Queensland. Work when I need to. No worries. Bring It On! =D <3

heard some bad shit about the policing at i love techno like, full stripsearches and the like seemed fairly common :\

World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (aka Willing Works On Organic Farms).

WWOOF is a world wide network - It started in the UK in 1971 and has since become an international movement that is helping people share more sustainable ways of living.

WWOOF is an exchange - In return for volunteer help, WWOOF hosts offer food, accommodation and opportunities to learn about organic lifestyles.

WWOOF organisations link people who want to volunteer on organic farms or smallholdings with people who are looking for volunteer help.

You do a few hours work a day in exchange for food and board basically. :)

Sounds ideal to me if you need to save some money, no doubt meet some interesting locals and end up in some places off the beaten track. :)

I called RBS today to enquire about my overdraft, bastard on the phone told me it is only interest free up to £1,000 come June, I'm currently £2k overdrawn. If that's the case it's a spanner in the works for my travel plan as I hadn't planned for that. Went along to the bank and they assure me it's still interest free up to £1500 come June, fuck knows who to beleive. I hope the folk at the branch are right, can't afford to be paying a grand to keep it interest free and can't be getting hit with overdrawn charges when I'm in Oz. Got an appointment with a customer adviser tomorrow to see about graduate loans and interest free loan repayments. No way I'm postpoing my travel plans so looks I'm getting myself into a serious amount of debt instead! :|

debts fun spadey ;) well its not really, but its what everyone is in to be honest. They're not gonna chase you in Oz for the money, and if you like it out there and get a little job that pays a bit as well as wwoofing then you'll be fine. I remember when a couple of my mates when out there a few years ago and they ran out of money a long time before they were due to come home but they managed to find some cash in hand sales jobs to get them through. So you should be alright mate

Debt is good. I'm going to have 2 mortgages in about a months time!!!

Try and open an Aussie bank account before you go...it makes life a lot easier. I used Westpac.

I'm not going to be in Oz forever though mate and don't fancy getting blacklisted or coming back to angry debtors.

There will be a solution to my problem. eDDe seems to be suggesting I transfer my balance but I've no idea what he actually means by that?

There's also graduate loans with the possibility of deffering payments for a year and 3 year interest free overdraft repayment loan. How easy it is to get a loan at the current time I don't know, especially for a lowly paid graduate like myself?

I'll find out tomorrow I guess. Getting a loan and deffering for a year (interest builds up through the deffered period) seems like the best solution for now. Won't be so good in 12 months time I'm sure but that's ages away. :D

Should I mention I'm off to Oz and that's what I want a loan / to deffer my payments for or not?

Do I really need an Aussie bank account? I can use my Nationwide acct, no charges abroad.

Thailand and Australia.. NZ.. Figi Islands is something im desperated to see aswell. I have only ever been in Europe and to me these areas are some of the mostr beautiful on the planet! I would also love to travel India and as a friend of mine traveled alot of the place and not to mention the mountains, Parvatti valley i believe he visited. Some of the photos he had were incredible, words cannot describe. %)

If somehow I get fucked over by the bank / my overdraft and don't have a job after next month and can't get another job ASAP then I might need to re-think going to Oz and go somewhere where the standard of living is cheaper. Really set on Oz like but sure I'd fun wherever I go.

You'll get screwed by a shit FX rate though. Still, if Nationwide are as good as they say then maybe it's not needed.
