The Travel Thread - Second Destination

18 degrees on Thursday, so not exactly tropical. But not fucking freezing either!!!

And i aint paying for it! :)

Work?

I'm just consoling myself that I'm getting up every day in the cold to go to work for the greater good. I can save about £500 a month I reckon, so can easily have enough money within 6-12 months to fuck off to Oz or somwhere else warm for a bit.

Yep, it's a work trip. Flying overnight on Weds...so can justify sitting upfront.;)

Back Sat morning, and then might have a big night out in London before coming back to Guernsey.

Alright for some, furthest work send me is to the post office with 10 ton of packages to deliver. Fuckin killer like. :(

Hahah.

It will be an ok trip. Not good being away from the kiddie, but nice to get some sun and some sponsored boozing in!

I need to do a bit of research and see how long I can go to Oz on a tourist visa (don't fancy work) and how much cash I'd need.

Any suggestions?

Kid: please list all the free stuff you are going to score on these flights. :D

we always have to fly cattle class, which really annoys the fuck out of me. don't they know who i am? :!

I wish everytime I flew it was business / club class. It's another world.

Kid, how long did it take you to get your Etihad Guest membership card?
I've printed out my temporary one, but doesn't exactly look classy :P
And how far will 250 Dirhams go in Abu Dhabi airport?

Got my rucksack, really good one for £38, reduced from £68.

Stupid Nationwide still haven't sent me my card so I can't deposit £100 and open my account.. applied over 3 months ago and reapplied last week.

You definitely want a Nationwide account otherwise you're going to get raped from bank charges. £5 a time to withdraw money with RBS. :\

I've set up a direct debit with my post office credit card so the bill is automatically paid plus extra before any interest is added, so I'll be using that most of the time which is the same deal Nationwide have but with business exchange rates :)

It depends on the airline and how long the trip is. If you are overnight, you generally get a nice toilet back stuffed with goodies, some of which is good for giving to your missus and some is actually useful. The bag is usually nice leather too.

The headphones are generally the cool noise reducing ones, but never nicked them.

Some airlines give you sleeper suits or t-shirts. I always kip in the t-shirts but they're not exactly something worth taking home!

Booze and food is very good. Vintage champagne, very fine wines and excellent food served on proper plates with proper cutlery. I've never tried stealing any of it though!

Not a member. But cards can often take a few weeks.

AED 250 is about £47. I can't remember exact prices, but it'll get you some food and a beer.

Or it will get you a phone call to a lawyer if they piss test you and find traces of dope........ :p;)

sounds about right. on my last flight home from jo'burg on a BA 747 i stole a toiletry bag that one of the poshos had left, and was amazed at the difference between them and us. and we were in world traveller plus, so god knows what depravities the cattle classers had to put up with - duct tape for eye masks, perhaps? ;)

and i was very tempted to nick a pair of 1st class headphones, but by this time people were watching me. :o

heading to rio and back from sao paolo with air france, its also a 747.. the entertainemnt etc looks as good as BAs, i hope to nick some poshos fancy wash bags etc too hehehehe

hint: steal them before they use them. :|

air france & KLM are grippy as fuck though, compared to BA. all we got to eat on our recent flights to the dam were dry TUC biscuits and no VODKA dammit!

gutted. you just cannot beat BA for... everything. :)

i flew BA from heathrow to JFK and back before, was a lovely fancy 747 with PTVs etc

im reading review of AF 747s now and it seems hit and miss, some of them dont have PTVs apparently!! wtf

ill be sick if theres no PTV

ps felix, airlines tend to offer good service on long haul and shit service on short haul, usually shit service on both tbh

i've had mixed experiences on long haul. best pack some diazepam and an mp3 player to be on the safe side, lol. :)

shouldn't really expect much from AMS to ABZ, but still, at least BA always give you a nice wee hot meal to keep you occupied.

we were in world traveller plus,

I don't rate World Traveller Plus. I don't reckon it's worth the extra cash from economy. Virgin's Prem Econ is better.

You should try Qatar. :)

Or to be really on the safe side....a nice flat bed. :p
