The Travel Thread - Second Destination

ok so we booked air france to fly to brazil on wednesday, as i stated earlier in this post

thing is, the air france website only allows us 45 minutes between arriving in paris and departing for rio de janiero..

despite the terminal being the same terminal, i dont think that 45mins is enuff time.... the airports website says allow 1 hour for connections within this terminal but air france must have minimum 45mins or something

theres another flight that leaves dublin 2 hours earlier, meaning we would be in paris 2h 45mins earlier than the connecting flight.. i am going to ring them tomorrow and try change it, hopefully air france dont charge more money for this!

probs best to change it if possible eh? dont wana be stuck in paris for an extra night when i should be in brazil

air france wont let me change the ticket, ffs!
they said theyd put me on next flight if there were any issues but that there shouldnt be

wouldnt mind so much but we are getting the last air france from paris to rio until the next morning at 10am! fingers crossed there are no delays

You've a 15hr train journey with no air conditioning planned? You must be mental, fuck that for a game of soldiers.

I did that trip on an air-con train years ago and it was terrible as it was soo fucking cold!! They had the air-con on max.

If both flights are Air France, you might be able to do it if you aren't late on your first flight. My main concern would be my luggage not making it.

It's fairly normal for there to be short connection times when your coming off one flight and connecting with another of the same company, remember you don't have to check in or any of that bollocks they'll book your luggage right through to Rio. Your luggage may not make it if there was a delay on the first flight as it obviously takes a while to transfer bags but they'll have it on the next flight and deliver it to your hotel.

Just found cheap flight with RyanAir to Bratislava (or so I thought) but it turns out you actually fly to Vienna!

What the fuck is that all about.

I flew with them to Rome, you get absolutely fuck all from them. Charge you for oxygen. They actually fly to some airport on the outskirts but there's a fairly quick shuttle bus which taxis you into the centre so it wasn't too much hassle.

Landing in Vienna when your travelling to Brataslava though seems much different.

I have flown with Ryanair around 30 or 40 times over the years and never once had any problems or issues.. you just have to know the game and make sure you dont break the rules

Be at the airport extra early and dont expect anything

My GF had terrible issues with them before though, as have countless other people i know but generally its down to a fuck up that they made (not ryanair)

what happened my GF was she was flying from dublin to madrid and the flight was delayed by a hour or something, so she fecked off to get a sandwich and a cup of coffee... now, by this stage the flight was originally meant to be leaving in 10 mins (but since the screen said delayed for a hour she had ample time)

she got back to the gate a few mins before the original departure time to be told that it had changed again and she couldnt board (plane was sitting at the gate, with door open but the boarding had been closed) the screen still said delayed but the guys in ryanair said nothing we can do,

Lesson learned from that story.. BE AT THE GATE AT THE TIME IT SAYS ON UR BOARDING PASS and DONT LEAVE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES..... even if the plane is apparently delayed for a zillion hours, cos it COULD come back to bite u in the arse.

etc

Similar thing happened to me and my dad with BA. We were at Glasgow in plenty time, flight kept getting delayed, delayed, delayed by 10 mins at a time and it was fast approaching the time for our connecting flight at Heathrow, the boards are all displaying that the flights delayed. We go to ask at the BA desk what the situation will be if we miss our connecting flight and she says "why aren't you at the gate the plane is boarding". It went from being delayed to boarding with no notice at all.

One of my issues with Ryan Air is the total lack of respect they have for the passenger.

But my main issue is safety. I know a few pilots, and they all say that the time taken to turn around a Ryan Air flight is too short for the pilot to carry out thorough safety checks. There is too much pressure on pilots to make very tight deadlines.

thats absolute nonsense the kid!
dont believe all that media hype that you hear about ryanair jeprodising safety for profit

granted, alot of ryanair pilots are starting their airline careers but they have the youngest fleet of aircraft in the world, an excellent safety record and all pilots always carry out all of the required pre take off and after landing safety check lists... otherwise they would loose their ratings and would be grounded!

45 minutes between arrival and DEPARTURE isn't enough. if you actually mean check-in time or boarding, then it should - might - be OK. phone Air France to double check. :)

We arrive in Paris at 10.30pm Local time on Wednesday and depart at 11.15pm local time....

rang air france, they wont change my flight so that i can leave ireland earlier.. they said that 45 mins should be enough, i asked again to change so i leave 2 hours earlier but they wont allow me on the ticket i have..

just gona have to risk it, although we land in charles de gaulle and we land in terminal 2E and depart from 2E, so our bags etc will all go through and we dont need to go through security again either so HOPEFULLY we should just make it on time....

The street food is not always horrid, I had some lovely stuff. :) Bangkok is VERY grubby, dirty and smelly though, rats and cockroaches everywhere.

You've a 15hr train journey with no air conditioning planned? You must be mental, fuck that for a game of soldiers. Can you not do shorter journeys to places in between / on route to break up the trip?

Grand Palace is indeed cool. Did you visit Wat Pho and see the 'Reclining Buddha'? I thought that was the coolest of them all.

Yeh that was pretty damn impressive.

The train journey wasn't so bad. Was racing around BK in a tuk-tuk with 2 Brummy guys at 4am and my train was 8:30 so I decided to stay up and then just sleep on the train. The fans were easily enough.

Chiang Mai is much much better than BK, but you only miss BK once you leave.
Food is amazing and so much cheaper here.

RA, you prob know more pilots than me so maybe you are right. The guys I know (ex Flybe and BA and a private pilot) all observed that the turn-around times are too tight and that there is too much emphasis on making sure planes take off on time. Plus the recent news about them flying with tanks that weren't full of fuel wasn't exactly encouraging!

They do have a great safety record, but that's no use to you when you're on the first one that crashes!!!

Anyway, I refuse to use them on many other grounds...not least the fact that as i'm over 6 foot the flight is about as comfortable as torture.....and they don't have a business class...:p;)

hehe yeah well i guess the more time the pilots have on the ground then natrually then the less chance of check lists being rushed but all short haul airlines these days fly back with the same pilots etc so it doesnt make ryanair any less safe than other short haul airlines... all pilots are human and humans are always prone to making mistakes but ryanair just have a bad name cos theyre an easy target and having their name plastered across the headlines sells papers!

theyre still a shower of cunts tho, but cunts who revolutionised air travel and made it affordable for the masses.

I think you like Ryan Air cuz they are from your neck of the woods!! :)

I've flown Ryan Air, Easyjet, BMI Baby and Flybe from the so-called low cost carriers....and i'd easy put Ryan Air at the bottom of the list for every single catagory you can think of.

Anyway, these days the flag carriers seem to be just as cheap so i try and use them...at least they'll give you a beer and a bit more leg room.

haha yeah maybe i am biast, anyone injecting money into the irish tax system gets the thumbs up in my opinion

at least michael o leary keeps his bank in ireland, unlike u2 who fucked off to the netherlands to avoid paying taxes here! wankers

hehe michael o leary is a bit of a funny character, he lives in a place called mullingar which is around 60 miles outside dublin, and he bought a taxi so that he could use the bus lanes when driving to dublin... hehe much to the outrage of many regular joe soaps! - he also flies ryanair and brings his own lunch to avoid paying for the food on the flight! how cheap can u get lol.. guess thats why he's rich!

damn, i cant believe its tomorrow when ill be leaving, im just packing all my stuff now and trying to get everything sorted (i always forget loads of shit)... oh but on the flip side, i just realised that the flight is not in fact 15 hours in total, but only (and i use that word loosley) 11 hours from paris, so at least we get to walk around for a few mins on the ground in paris before getting into another steel tin... bleh!
