The Times - Explained
We had an awesome foursome
With a few hangers on
But with all the risks we took
It was never gonna last for long
Emma, Clare, Kayne and I
We had our own universe
But all our experimentation
Left us with a curse
So much fun we had
It was like a constant glory
Who knew such a free world
Would become this sad story
Clare and I were together
Although the group shared a lot of love
Together we were reckless
Alone we were like a dove
Every few months I’m forced to think back
I shyly rock up for a test
A few games of truth or dare
Now an annual pest
Emma went to far
She started to crack
Her parents took away to help
The group began to lose track
It was never the same
The risks were all to high
With out Emma’s spirit
The flock could not fly
Emma soon got clean
But then she got sick
Kayne turned his back
My best friend was suddenly a prick
Then Emma passed away
But the past was not buried
We had to grow apart
Our opinions all varied
Then I started to lose it
Clare couldn’t cope
The scars on my back
Were destroying all her hope
Clare woke up
She got on with life
Left me behind
Couldn’t be a crazy mans wife
Kayne and I lost contact
Till I turned up by his bed
If he wasn’t in a coma
So much good would have been said
How do you talk at a funeral?
About someone you’re not sure you knew
But remembering the good times
The writing just grew
I still see Clare when we have our test
But there’s really not much to say
The only thing to talk about
Is the ones who have gone away
That’s not easy
It hurts us both a great deal
So we practise telepathy
There’s understanding in a silent meal
We can not change the past
I’m sure we both have regret
And although we move on apart
Together we never forget
We had an awesome foursome
With a few hangers on
