The tiers of psychedelic visuals

This is taken directly out of my recent trip report. Levels of consciousness/levels of hallucinations or closed eye visuals: "tier 1 - colors. tier 2 - 2 dimensional shapes/letters rotating and dancing. tier 3 - 3 dimension objects with little control over what i can do with them (ex. mario kart driving but i can't control how he drives/moves very well - just swerves back and forth on a thin road i can barely form). tier 4 - real world graphics and simulations with psychedelic properties and characteristics, sometimes somewhat pixelated (on another dxm trip i remember a completely white plane of existence with me sitting nearby on a white throne in 3rd person and then i melt into white goo on the floor). tier 5 - the lucid dream - usually contains some sort of adventure through your mind."...

- Does anyone have anything to add or correct to my tiers?

- Also does anyone else see the relation to the eight circuits of consciousness?

- Does anyone find the idea of this being related to levels of consciousness to be preposterous/stupid?

- Tier 4 - i'd like to edit my wording. I feel like it's 3 dimensional psychedelic visuals which are not controllable/influenced by the ego, they kind of work themselves like a dream.

Interesting idea though I'm a bit hesitant to place visuals in tiers since I find the visuals vary so much from drug to drug and it doesn't necessarily denote the overall strength of visuals.

For example DMT closed eye visuals feel more intense to me than those of 4-AcO-DMT, but for me 4-AcO-DMT's closed eye visuals are almost always very high definition realistic 3D, while many of DMT's visuals are often 2D or "2.5D" for me but it's the intensity of the colours, the "hyperreal" feeling of the DMT reality and such that make the visuals more powerful.

I find this trend continues among other drugs, for example I can have visuals of "equal intensity" from several psychedelics that can range form isometric cartoon video-game style visuals, to 2D fractal patterning, to 3D life-like scenes etc - yet I wouldn't rate any one of them more or less visual than the others.

If I were to tier it personally I'd do it based on overall complexity of geometry and objects present in the visuals - and on the vividness and clarity - since 3D is all good but if it's dull and murky I'd consider even a very simple 2D visual of say a square floating around to be "more visual" provided the clarity was higher. :)

DMT being "2.5D" is a quality of the drug. Its like acid being pixelated. I've never done DMT but i can imagine i'd place the visuals in with catagory "tier 5" with 2.5 dimensions, just like i would with acid but with pixelated dimensions :). And also try imagine doing these things sober, or just on something not hallucinogenic like marijuana or mdma --- the visuals you can will to be produced. I've found i can use my ego to create 1-3 and i need to unlock my unconscious mind(or lose my ego) to access 4/5. I was mentioning in my trip report how i felt about losing your ego when u sleep and losing your ego when you're high on psychedelics, i think your brain functions(in some aspects) the same way in these states. I also drew the connection that 3-5 are accessing new dimensions that transcend time and space.

Modern science holds the belief that space and time are connected. If you can transcend space in some way, then maybe it is possible or no? I'm not sure if it is a real reality or an imagined reality though. I don't know, but I believe that you shouldn't take Leary too seriously on anything! His writing uses a lot of metaphors and symbols. Read out of context, it could give the wrong impression about his true intentions. I would never take anything he wrote at face value. His books have always read like some sort of masonic initiation to me! Maybe it makes moreorless sense whilst tripping?

But did take a lot of psychedelics, and he was a professor of psychology, so maybe he has some knowledge in these matters? Or the hippie in me just wants to belive!

patterns are things i see on all kinds of psychedelics. the patters usually take on a certain shape depending on the drug. and usually depending on how strong the dose is depends on how strong the patterns appear. i find with classic psychedelics the visuals/patterns tend to have more of a glow to them and that glow has more of a synesthesia effect to "feeling" a connection to what your seeing. mescaline would duplicate the things i was looking at and intertwine them with the patterns i was seeing like for instance one beam of light would be scattered into multiple beams and dots of light all over my vision. mescaline by far had the most stunning visuals. DMT visuals to me have a 3d digital kind of look to the OEVs and the CEVs are more 2d, but ive never really had 3d CEVs. They always seem 2d to me or 2.5d like you all talk about haha.

2.5D? I think they look 8D personally. I'm long sighted, so may be that explains it?:? I also have a split personality disorder, so who knows really!! I don't. But then I've never seen half dimensions, so maybe I'm ok after all.

^ well this thread was sort of intended to be focused on CEVs since i don't have much experience with OEVs. And mind movies i think i would classify as "tier 4". Feel free to make your own tiers if you'd like, i'd be very interested to hear your take on it - also it doesn't matter how you organize it or if you include OEVs :)

I would say that there are no tiers for me. I just rate them from mild to intense— they're different every time, and different drugs have their idiosyncrasies. I think you know you're tripping hard when you are either seeing unbelievable things happen before your eyes that are actually not there, or being completely outside of consensus reality immersed in another dimension for the time being.

I think shroomrey has the tiers pretty right, but than again they are ONLY talking about shrooms
