The Straight Edge Movement..??

Im kind of into the metal scene and im seeing more and more of these straight edge kids from the straight edge movement that promotes drug, alchohol and tobacco free living. Ive witnessed many beatings and assualts on suppossed drug dealers by these straight edge punks. i was just wondering if anyone has ran into these guys and or have an opinion on the youth movement.
 
ya here in northwest PA we have a gang of fucking straight edge retards. they all suck as people and are super ignorant of anything other than raa raa music (i like metalcore but not so much hardcore) and face tattoos. ive heard of them intimidating people that use but never have i heard of them beating some dude up for using drugs. i dont think they would ever do anything because they are just outnumbered here in my town. haha i bet the ratio is like 5 junkies to every straight edge jackass.
 
I know a little about the straight edge scene - my brother has a lot of friends involved in it and considers himself somewhat straight edge. I've never seen any of them become violent or anything though...maybe it's area differences or something, but around here the SxE kids seem to be rather harmless, artsy 20somethings/teens who wear dark clothing and listen to obscure bands. No druggie beatings or really any apparent dislike for drug users.:\ I'll ask my brother for more info when I talk to him, though. :)
 
yeah that scene used to be huge here by LA. A couple guys also used to go around and jump stoners and all that good stuff, in general theyre some of the most ignorant people ive ever met. The best part is i know of a few people who have giant straight edge tattoos that are now way into partying and two are even full blown junkies. with "STRAIGHT XXX EDGE" inked across one guys stomach.
 
I was really into the hardcore/metalcore scene when I was younger. Thats still the kind of music I listen to but I don't go to shows every weekend like I used to. I have come across and known many many straight edge kids and I'd say about half of the ones I have known are really chill and don't use or drink themselves but don't mind if others do and won't have a problem with it. Then theres the other ones I have come across who are out actually hunting for stoners and supposed drug dealers to beat down in order to "save the youth". There was actually a gang of straight edge kids out here who went by a name I can't recall, and there entire purpose was to find and kick the shit out of people at hardcore shows who they thought were druggies. They were pretty fucking huge too. It was funny cuz me and all my junkie friends would be at shows all doped out on heroin, moshing in a pit full of straight edgers and we never got into a confrontation with them.

I'm not much into the hardcore scene anymore and just listen to the music, so I don't know what the current situation is with straight edge kids in Southern Cali.
 
I hate all of that straight edge bs, half of the time the morons with X's markered onto their hands will still drink and take drugs if given the oppertunity and the great magority of them just use it as an excuse to be unnessasarily violent at gigs or festivals. I don't like the music either but that's personal preference and not really relevent as you can still like alot of it without being a dick head.

FUCK STRAIGHT EDGE. Its never about not doing drugs. Its a whole culture devoted to being a scene elitist asshole. THey don't do drugs, they don't smoke, they don't get laid and they are really angry so there life revolves going to hxc shows and fighting people...

there is a difference between straight edge(when only meaning ppl who don't do drugs) and SXE straight edge. The former is a normal person who doesn't use drugs or alcohol and nothing wrong with that. SXE is a culture of elitist assholes that go to your shows and ruin them and wanna fight you!!!!
 
Im glad i live in a place where the straightedge movement never took off at all. I honestly have never run into one and the only time i ever heard of them here was some band on complaining that people think straightedge is against our culture.

I guess that movement does not go well with the hard drinking coke snorting people who live on this island.
 
i personally can not stand the idea of being straight edge, mostly because i have had friends who thought it was 'cool' when they were 15 but now they drink, smoke or use drugs (or all 3). out of all the people i know who claimed SXE at one time (at least 10-15), i only know 1 kid who is still edge, but i have done some form of drugs with all the rest of those people.

only when people are out of high school, and claim straight edge can i actually hold back a laugh, because when you're 15 and edge, its almost like being a walking billboard that says "i have no connections to a supply of alcohol or drugs". but for someone to maintain that mentality into adulthood, takes some real self control and although its not a life i would ever want to live, kudos to them for staying true to themselves.

about sxe people being elitists, that can be true and alot of times is true, but that's the music scene, there's gonna be cunts no matter where you go and its just a matter of how each one expresses it.
 
they're kind of like the taliban. They suck when it comes to actaully fighting in when the opponent is even close to their numbers, they believe in random bullshit that is about having no fun and forcing everyone else not to either, and they both share each others zeal and rage.

as a result, I enjoy hunting these douche bags down in a similar fashion, mostly cause theiir shitty taste in music infests many of the of the bars and venues in my area and driving a calf high para boot into a 16 year old virgin's ribcage provides the only means of entertainment. :p

We should all band together as a combined task force to remove the threat of their fail infesting more of the world.

I have several friends from MA who have told me about these kids' presence in and around the area's hard core music scene. There is a group that apparently considers themselves to be a street gang whose duty is to enforce their straight edge ideals, by force and/or threat of violence, on anyone who doesn't agree. They call themselves FSU, which stands for Fuck Shit Up. Clever title!:| These guys sound like winners to me.
 
I've been into metal so long i was more into the core genres when i was younger but now its more tech metal that I listen to. But yea I was in that scene when I was younger and had a bunch of friends that claimed straight edge for life yea!!! ..... How incredibly lame. Out of all those kids only one is still straight edge, and me and him still hang out and go to shows together, usually to listen to music, and let out some aggression. The rest all drink or do drugs, don't even listen to the music, and now look like clowns because they sold themselves out. The straight edge kids that are violent assholes are kids that wanna feel tough even though they've been raised in a safe, white collar, suburban environment. Everyone's a fucking tough guy when they are with 20 of their friends. I still listen to metal and will go to a show if someone i really like is playing but I don't get involved with the XXX tough-guy fags

usually a bunch of rich white kids trying to be part of a group thinking there the top since they dont touch drugs. Ive met one SXE person, dying to see the tat, but he drank monsters and totally contradicts himself.

I was watching something on SXE, funny as hell. the police considered them a gang. I wanna see them go against some gangbangers thats been coking out all day. in the end, if they ever fucked with any real dealer; lead might be flying

What there here 8o ? Ive never seen them or heard of them. Guess they never made it up my way. Probably because the nearest hospital is so far away they keep a low profile if there here cause there bullshit would not be tolerated where i live.
