I took for granted how truly amazing the sound of another human's heartbeat was until tonight.

Laying with my ear on my gf's chest until she fell asleep was seriously one of the most lovely experiences I have ever had.

So I'm wondering if anyone else has similar experiences with their partner? I hope so ;)

I like to lie with my girlfriend and notice the transfer of calm, anxiety, excitement, etc, when we're tangled up and she's asleep.
For example, this morning I kept waking during the night because I had a stressful day ahead of me.
Every time I woke and had a wave of anxiety pass through my body, I'd notice that she'd stir and kick around a little.
Same thing certainly applies if I'm calm and wanting to sleep. Even if she's mildly manic I can get her calmed down through the transfer of energy, or whatever it might be referred to.
Pretty cool when you're tuned into someone to a high degree. I know that's not exactly the kind of response you're looking for, but somewhat related.

When I hear my bf's heartbeat, I worry that it's too slow and that he's going to die. I guess that's just anxiety.

this made me laugh. sorry to be a dick. i can relate to the being afraid of people dying thing though- i get moderately shitty anxiety often enough

Lol PFH. I get worried. It's funny in retrospect but, if I hear it, I make him figure out his heart rate and make sure he's okay.

I'm sure it could be romantic to those without anxiety like mine. That's just the first thing I thought of when I though of heartbeats.

When I hear my girlfriends heart beat i realise she has a pretty high BPM.

This worries me.

Mann, you guys are funny!

There's a scene in "white men can't jump" when woody harrelson and Wesley snipes are talking about listening or hearing Hendrix...that's how I feel right now reading these replies! ;)

I just like listening to it, not thinking about the speed, or the blood pressure. It's a wonderful sound, hearing that the person laying next to me is alive! Ba-boom .... ba-boom ... ba-boom...it's a sound of life. Not dissimilar to the sounds of birds tweeting in the morning; like feeling wind on my face when I leave a building; like the sun shining down on me. It's just life and it's brilliant uncertainty at its finest.

The sound of a heartbeat. Listen, and you may hear the rhythm of life :D
