Yeah of course. Thats why it was such a great show. As I said: show me another movie/show that can make you root for the "bad guys"? Breaking Bad is one, and its why its one of the best shows on TV at this time.

Even Chase made the comment after the show that people should NOT be rooting for tony to make it. I am paraphrasing, but he basically said: heres a guy you watched do all of this horrible stuff for 6 seasons. You watched him kill people in cold blood, cheat on his wife, be a bad father, and all this straight up awful shit. And yet you people are ROOTING for him?!

Definitely one of his goals was to highlight that, and the irony that exists.

I will say also say that a sociopath is not exactly equivalent to a human being in my humble opinion, because they lack a key aspect of humanity: empathy. A natural human emotion is to feel for others and that is why we do not do certain things. These people really had none of that.

Real mafioso do not give TWO SHITS about their family. Many stories exist of mafia members cheating on wives, giving up their own family members, or even KILLING them in some cases. An example off the top of my head would be to look into the guy who 'French' from the Departed was based on. He killed his step daughter and lover among other heinous acts.

I think thats aspect was the biggest "fudge" of the entire series. they showed some of these guys actually giving a shit about other people. Most mafioso dont: they see people as a means to an end. And they view their family as just a status symbol, not something to actually care about. I mean think about it, could you really do some of that messed up shit if you even cared an iota about someone other than yourself?

Most of these guys are narcissistic sociopaths, and in the show that is very clearly portrayed through many characters. Ralph Cifaretto as I said, as well as Richie Aprile. Richie Aprile is the best example: he basically disowned his son. The fudged part is that all of these characters should have been like that. I dont mind that they aren't, artistic liberty does exist.

But consider this bit: NO ONE gets to where Tony Soprano did by being LESS cold, and LESS ruthless, than these other men (ie Ralph and Richie). Since he did, he inherently had to be worse. But they portrayed him in a few sympathetic ways. Again this was achieved by showing that he somehow cared about his family; ironic since he did a lot to hurt them constantly through the show.

I want to reiterate that all of this is what made this show so bad ass!!!!

I was going to write out a long response but decided not to by the time I read your post for some reason, no offense intended but here have Tony with the ducks

Edit: Also tv and cinema definitely glamorize the mob by a lot, not every made guy walks around with a wad of hundreds, a full suit, sports jacket, and hat on with a cigar hanging out of his mouth

But like I said I do think it was very well done how they made you feel empathy for these despicable people, especially Tony but I wouldn't go as far as to say people rooted him on

Plus like I said about the glamorization part, I'm sure if we seen these actual people conducting there everyday illicit crimes how ever they could, and basically leach off there own people, we would probably feel nothing but disgust, but still they're real people too with real feelings and all that shit

Double Edit: So yeah I guess you hooked me into typing a mid length tier response, fuck it I love The Sopranos

Triple Edit: This fucking scene right here made Paulie for me, I mean yeah we all know Tony got clipped at the end but who gave him up.

There was no one left, hardly, and Paulie had the clippers, plus I think he knew Tony was thinking some fucked up shit on the boat, and just like ally boy says in that one scene, what's next ya gonna get clipped for wearing the wrong shoes now and since Paulie had been in the game so long he knew how easy it'd be to get whacked with your boss acting paranoid

This is a show I have been meaning to watch for a long time. Too bad it's not on Netflix :( in going to go ahead and just buy it though on Amazon.

Everyone loves The Sopranos!

I really forgot how fucking hilarious the sopranos was, I think I'm gonna rewatch it, I was watching short clips in the last few weeks on yt but after this video of quotes I really really miss it. Rip big boy :(

I never got into the show that much, surprisingly, I love these kinds of films and shows. I guess I never really had the opportunity to sit down and watch a few episodes back to back though...I was too busy at SeaWorld..

It was no comedy but I get your point lol.

A wonderfully made show, with almost all the characters worth watching individually, due to the complexity of each.

Have you seen Lillihammer?

the guy beats the pregnant stripper to death over nothing. show is brutal. like the cornfield scene in Casino.

Yeaaah it is a veeeery dark comedy, but after a few watches it really is funny. Have no idea about lilihammer. I never met Italian people in real life but I see their files everyday at work lol

I wouldn’t say it’s a comedy but character interaction can be a bit goofy.

Lillihammer is Silvio setting up over there with the madness that follows, check it out, I always loved his “turtle neck” behaviour lol.

The dream episode

The most accurate depiction of dreaming I've ever seen on screen.

Just when I thought I was out......they pulled me right back in

This was my favourite scene, and the paparazzi beat from xzibits song was genius

I love how everybody acts but inside they know who became the true leader

I recently only watch a few scenes on yt, I would love to rewatch the sopranos again but some elisodes are slow and boring as hell
