?? ? THE SOCIAL CLUB v. Come Say Hi! ? ??

A favorite fictional account of addiction (with an excellent film adaptation) is A Scanner Darkly. I'm a huge Philip K. Dick fan, anyway. The Delillio I've read is pretty good.

But seriously, as far as Nabokov, Lolita is chock-full of some of the most gorgeous prose I've ever read, but Pale Fire was his masterpiece. The opening 999 line poem alone is fantastic. Pair the poem with the subsequent "commentary" about it, and the result is a truly labyrinthine tale of kings, countries, and so much more. The poem can be read online and reading it alone won't spoil anything: http://www.shannonrchamberlain.com/palefirepoem.html

Agree about Lot 49, Scrofula. As I said up thread, I really only finished it due to how short it was, I can't say I gave a shit about anything that went on, much less any of the characters.

It wasn't tonight dude, and I am thankful for that as I am still oxy sick from binging for a few days. Still shaking that off.

She is taking me out soon for dinner, probably next day or two. Weren't planning on rushing out tonight man. I still got a cannon to smoke. We were video chatting most of the day about her assignment and just listening to her talk about her feelings and stuff, helping her with her schoolwork. She is helping me to realize my business idea I've had for a few months too. She is really smart at marketing and communications and stuff that I suck at. Whereas I am creative and together we can make all the products together since she is more organized. It's pretty cool we make a great team.

Regarding the relationship it is always a part of our conversations and to others it would seem like we are already dating but I haven't made out with her yet. Just seems like saying anything about it at all is taking away from the experience man since the entire thing has been beyond words. That way if it doesn't work out I can be sad and lonely in silence with my the spirit who often appears to me haha. I'll revert to my entity crush, smoke some dmt and call it a day in the physical realm. We are essentially evaluating each other as husband and wife it is intense like that. Not casual dating at all I have never experienced anything like this. My past 2 relationships were chill and she is chillest of all but, we cannot just be chill about this so it ends up being a perpetual undertone to whatever it is we are doing. Even when she is not around we are progressing and learning about each other it is crazy like that.

That sounds pretty deep dude. Just try not to overthink things and just let it happen. That's what I did with my girl. Met her at work and just chatted on Facebook messenger and WhatsApp for a couple months....but man when I met her again I just fell for her straight away. I remember her telling me she never deletes my old texts and reads them before she goes to bed....I'm like "wow" no one has ever done thst before. At the time I was coming off pain meds and she sent me a card saying she was my personal cheerleader and how proud she was of me Then it turned out her dad served in the same Airborne battalion as me (many years earlier obviously) before he went on to join the British SAS....and I'm like "This is the coolest shit ever"

Anyway ...I love her bro.

Wasn't it the first major film to use that 'interpolated rotoscope' thingy to give it that animated look ?

No idea if that's what it's called or if it was the first, although I can't recall seeing anything that looked like it before or since. I guess it's some kind of adaptive cell-shading? Either way, it looks nuts, and is taken to another level by Downey Jr. and Harrelson's performances. It's right up there with Blade Runner (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep) as my favorite Dick adaptation, of which there have been many between movies and TV.

Edit: Still haven't seen the new Blade Runner, but I've heard mostly bad things. Certainly wasn't based on anything Dick wrote, and reeks of cash grab to me, especially being released a good 20ish years after the original.

Have any of you guys / gals read Inherent Vice ?

I got this for my brother for his birthday and he is just starting it now, after reading Infinite Jest. I'll read it when he is done, we both love the film based on it.

He mentioned drug addiction as a theme in Infinite Jest he seems to be quite interested in this topic after I told him I was an opiate fiend earlier this year. Since he doesn't mention that to anyone, I'm assuming that is why he likes to read about it. Big secret to keep and I am just getting clean and still nodding off from time to time. Doesn't use anything himself but drinks and some pot, little shrooms now and again.

I'm sleeping through work this morning. They fucked up my schedule so fuck it. I don't think they realize the chick I like is too sick again (poor lady) to work tomorrow. She should be at home finishing her assignment anyway. So yeah... they fucked up my schedule. I am not down with tomorrow's hours. I brought it up on Monday and got no response. I'm actually getting a sleep tonight and I fucking need a good one to recover from the oxy binge. Couple more solid sleeps and I should be good by Thursday at 4am.

I've seen a couple other small things that tried to imitate that look but died off quickly. I could still go for some more Dick, Phillip K that is.

Cash grab is having to do another installment of a series every time someone buys the rights/ parent company. :\

I would like a distillation setup, so that my lady friend and I can distill essential oils with it. We are starting up a little business together with scented candles and soaps, bath bombs, essential oils blends, homemade shampoos and condtioners, massage oils... whatever we can figure out what to do with an essential oils collection. All natural stuff and like I'd give free stuff to anyone on subs or methadone, is in some program like that, and make blends specifically for opiate withdrawals. She is definitely down for that and other ideas too like saving on materials we use so as to not be wasteful... since I will be handing out a lot of reusable vials full of essential oils.
She is smart at stuff I suck at and vice versa and we think we'll make a good team. We have a lot of pretty rad ideas come to think of it. Never knew how much a distillation setup for essential oils would cost me though will have to take that into account. She knows marketing... lol. I know shit all about that.

I'd love something that smells like Constant Comment black tea from Bigelow. That stuff is evidence that olfactory senses can be powerful. Always throws me back to the first time & place I tried it with such detail.

I take it Americans don't dink tea with milk and sugar like we do here?

Maybe some but I take my sugar with Tea and milk. Or Coffee the same way. You could stand a spoon up in the stuff when I was in MMT at 5am.

lol ..standard British army tea (know as NATO standard...joke) is white with 2 (milk and 2 teaspoons of sugar). The other way of referring to it in the army was "Julie Andrews" (White- None....White Nun..Sound Of Music.....geddit?). Black tea with no sugar is Whoopie Goldberg (black nun....Sister Act.) . Some thought that racist but I don't think it realy is.

That is tame enough but still funny. You have set a fairly high standard though with Monty Python and all. I nearly wore out my VHS copy of 'Life of Brian' and saw it first on Beta-Max .

No sugar or milk in my teas. Straight white, green, oolong, Pu'erh (if there's dark chocolate around... there usually is haha), earl grey and some strange south american ones like guayusa. Coconut something-or-other and honey in matcha.
