The Snowboarding Thread v. No skiers allowed

Im going to drive up to the mountains on New Years even without snow. Shaver lake has been drained for Dam repair and im gonna explore the empty lake.

Yes im desperate.

Just rode pow for the first time this year.

Maybe 8 inches and I was so fucking stoked when last year I would've taken two runs and been over it.

two gems from the last week teaching:

"IF you don't attack the mountain, the mountain will attack you."

and whilst teaching a little lard-ass how to snowboard: "I wonder if we take this kid to Ski Patrol if they will be able to treat his acute case of fat?"

Still no snow on the horizon........ this is the driest California winter of my life.

*crossing fingers* Supposedly the precipitation pattern has changed and this week Tahoe may finally see some storms. I'm not holding my breath though.

My gf works at a trampoline arena and gets me in for free so I go there once a week or so. I was messing around there yesterday and really fucked up my left foot. I think my cuboid bone is fractured, best case scenario its bruised. No snowboarding for a while for me ...... FML.

^Dude!!! You cannot mess with the snow gods like that!

Meanwhile.....freshy pow @ Kirkwood today and still snowing! =D

Ugh, supposed to be in the 40s in Tahoe this weekend but I'm still going up. Have to work in Idaho starting next week so I plan to drive over to Jackson Hole for SB weekend to get some fresh stuff because at least it continues to get new snow there.

Well my foot still hurts but its not broken, I dont have health insurance so I havent gotten an x-ray or anything but it feels alot better, especially after I walk on it for a few minutes. Ive been using a walking boot all week. Probably just a bone bruise or ligament/tendon stretch. Im gonna eat some painkillers and go boarding on Sunday, probably gonna be the most busy day so far this year but w/e.

Just rode blower double overhead pow all day. Not really, but the central mountains ('rado) saw 8-14", big winners were vail, breckenridge, and copper. Rode the resort all morning, hitched rides up the pass in the afternoon. Some of the wind loaded faces were 2'+ of snow.
Everything is really unstable though. Cut some turns inbounds that caused huge fractures- no slides inbounds though. Riding sidecountry, there was at least 3 small slides today. I always thought a mountain of powder would cause my death, I just always thought it would be coke or heroin, not snow.

The conditions were actually pretty fuckin sweet all things considered. Freshly waxed boards helped too, although I did have to babysit my girlfriend most of the day since this was her first time. Going up again on Wednesday with some friends of equal skill, should be awesome.

Going up again tomorrow. Conditions are actually pretty good considering this is the worst snow season I can remember. The temperature is good, not too icy early not too slushy late, makes for a good full day of boarding.

^ where did you go?

i'l be in tahoe for a couple of days at the end of february and plan to ride heavenly both days. i hope it snows...

alasdair

^ China Peak. Its up the 168 near Huntington Lake. It was clear early, then some massive clouds rolled in and it got really foggy. Overall great day though, went pretty much nonstop from 10 to 4.

View from the top of Chair one, the epicness of the mountains and lake are obscured by the clouds unfortunately.

Wish they had express lifts, but the lines are short and the park/runs are well maintained.

A better panorama from the very top of the highest run in the park.
