The Rolling Stones Appreciation Thread v. Whats Your Stones fix?

the Stones are a great band. my band takes a lot from them, as their type of music reaches a large audience (everyone from hipster scum to old people like the Stones type of guitar work).

I have covered "Brown Sugar" and "Jumping Jack Flash" and loved every second of it.

The stones are great. I really like Let it Bleed and the Mick Taylor era. Check out the video, "Ladies and Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones" It's from '72 I think. The era of decadence.

So much love for them. Just badass rock. Like it should be. Been listening to them non-stop lately, felt the urge to resurrect this dinosaur.

Sweet Virginia has been on repeat for some time. Fuck, the whole of Exile is. As soon as I hear 'Rocks Off', I get a tingle.

Don't even get me started on the badassness of "Can't you hear me knockin?'

Respect.

Favourite Stones track: Jumpin' Jack Flash. I just love it so much. It might have something to do with it's use in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The song is used so perfectly in that final scene.

Next favourite: Let is Loose. Pure nostalgia in a song. I don't even mean that I remember the song from some moment in my life. I just love the way the song makes me feel reflective and nostalgic while I listen to it.

Yea Exile is the only Stones album I'm properly familar with; I love it. I get the impression that they don't have many other albums that are such "albums". And I know most of the singles already. So I haven't really bothered checking out the other albums.

Yeah I can definitely see what you mean with that track! A superb track it is! Bobby Keys pumping out that sax.

I bought the Sticky Fingers vinyl the other week with working zipper. Needless to say, I was frothing.

My favorite two Stones albums...

Rolling Stones are not one of my fave bands, but I couldn't agree more that they have some tunes to fit whatever mood you are in.

As a psychedelic person rather than hard-rocker, my favourite album is Their Satanic Majesties Request. I know it's an odd choice, but though this album differs so much from the rest of their carreer, when listened from beggining to end it's totally coherent psychedelic music. It's got also songs with typical Mick Jagger style, but through psychedelic lens: She's a Rainbow, Citadel, 2000 Light Years From Home.

I'll have to add Gimme Shelter, first time I heard it while tripping, on headphones, I was overwhelmed by its dark athmosphere (without heavy guitars or anything), I felt like big clouds over me, when Jagger sings "a storm is threat'nin' my very life today", he means it!
