The River of Craving

Rushing down in torrents of unstoppable desire
Withering away every inch of resolve you’ve ever had
Touching
Breaching
Smothering every crevice it pours over
Winding
Slipping
Around every obstacle
To find it’s way into your darkest corners
A river so powerful that no dam can tame

Good sense I hope I meet you along these shores
A branch, a dock that I can latch onto
Because I’m being swept away
And the current is fast and strong
It’s becoming hard to tell which way is up
And which way is wrong
The ocean of possibilities is sucking me in
Where tidal waves of passion wreak havoc on vessels
And the salty taste leaves you thirsting for more and more

To think I once new the calmness of a great lake
Whose still waters froze in winter
And gently lapped up on the shore in summer
Waters that left you satisfied with every sip
And let me slip,
so easily into the mouth of the river of craving
