Benzos The Risks of Habitual Klonopin Usage

Hey everyone -- I have what is probably a very mild anxiety disorder, one that manifests pretty much exclusively with long-term stresses leading to periods of extreme anger/anxiety or mild depression as opposed to daily nervousness. Recently I've been taking klonopin along with LSD and other recreational drugs as an enhancer/smoother. And I've also been taking it as a morning-after for comedowns or hangovers. Let me just say this: this shit is the bomb. I feel like its that one little incentive to change your mood that lets you get where you want to be and stay there all day. It provides a nice body relaxation. Higher (rec) doses are fun as fuck for all kinds of reasons (energetic, giggly, talkative, sensitive to touch etc.). I actually am seriously interested in purposefully using kpin as a semi-regular recreational/mood management drug.

So to finally get to the point, I'm interested in the actual risks of this. I've read about the side effects and am aware of the potential for physical addiction that exists with benzos. But I'm wondering how sever these risks are in the context of taking ~1 mg of klonopin 2-4 times per week. I am a healthy male, I exercise regularly, and eat very well. I have no health problems, allergies, or conditions, and am not addicted to any drug (except for my mental addiction to marijuana). All of this is to say I've got a pretty clean slate as far as mental and physical health goes. Basically I'm looking for anyone who is a regular use of klonopin but who has not been PRESCRIBED the drug to pop in here and provide some context/feedback/personal experience.

Thanks!
Love & Light

my doctor prescribes me 4 .5 a day. i haven't been on them because of transportation issues but that should be resolved within the week (thank god i've been off them forever). i know the risks but being on them means i feel like myself have a creative drive and being off them means i feel like shit and don't want to do anything. i guess some people just have to kill themselves to live. i accept it. i drink til i pass out pretty much every night now that i am off them and i have zero interest in socializing unless i have been drinking.

It sounds like you are already sliding down the slope :( 'it makes me feel like myself' lots of people who become addicted to benzos think this... at least at first...

I think clonazepam has a pretty long half life... and if you are taking them daily it is very easy to fall into a physiological dependence on them...

I think you should probably address your issues with some counselling if you can because a physical addiction is the last thing you need, good luck and try not to use them too much because its just a road to hell!

Me personally I think benzos dull the trip so much it isn't even worth it. Like going from a crazy rollercoaster to the kiddie ride. Good if your having a bad trip you want to stop, otherwise pointless IMO.

I don't think there's much risk if you stick to low infrequent doses, but you'll get a tolerance eventually and may be tempted to take higher doses daily. Then you can get a shitty physical dependency if you take it enough, which can cause seizures if you don't take enough benzos.

I find klonopin can make me depressed, and the prescribing information says this is fairly common.

If it makes you happy, good for you, knock yourself out(pun not intended), but don't let it turn into a habit.

Taking Klonopin 2-4 times a week may not be very risky right now, but if you continue your usage indefinitely, there will be risks. Your tolerance will inevitably increase with time, eventually forcing you to up your dosage to get the same effects, reinforcing physical dependence and increasing the severity of physical withdrawal symptoms when you (inevitably) run out of Klonopin. You'll likely develop a psychological dependence that digs its roots deeper and deeper the longer you keep up habitual Klonopin use. You might find yourself left with anxiety, depression, depersonalisation when you (inevitibly) run out.

I've been on benzos for a bit over a year now, with a few couple week breaks here and there esp. over the summer (not my choice). I've been on Klonipin, Xanax, Ativan, Librium, which are all benzodiazepines. Currently I am on 1 mg Klonipin 3 x daily. Without a tolerance benzos can be quite enjoyable esp. when they really remove your anxieties and relax your body. With more tolerance they aren't so "enjoyable", esp. if you take them daily, but they can be quite good for anxiety. Benzo dependence, however, is rather serious. If you take a benzo dependent individual and remove them from benzos without tapering, the withdrawl is quite awful, and often life-threatening due to the seizure risk. I still wouldn't advocate against using them, though, they do serve a good purpose. If you feel Klonipin is helping you so much, maybe you ought to get an RX for it, but if you are taking it 2 to 4 times a week, dependence will likely ensue as Klonipin is quite potent with a long half-life. This means it will be in your system, at some level, all the time. If you want a benzo to take 2 to 4 times a week, a shorter-acting one like Xanax might be better, but if you want to be on a benzo daily, which is perfectly legitimate for anxiety, Klonipin would be a better option. Just know, should you elect to take a benzo daily, dependence will form, not necessarily addiction, but dependence, and with that comes tolerance and the risks you run if you go cold turkey off of them. Benzos are serious drugs. And on another note take it easy on the psychadelics (they can be EXTREMELY helpful, and you don't want to lose that). Also, be careful about combining drugs, know what you're doing.

the thing is i have generalized anxiety and also OCD. i've had mental health problems since i was 5. i started using oxy when i was 19 because my roommate was addicted and he would just hand it out. from there i moved onto extracting my own opium from poppy pods and in 2010, after losing a job and my boyfriend, i started using heroin for my anxiety. i've been on every kind of mental health drug and this is the only thing that works. so i guess i'll just have to try to keep some emergency pills in case i go into withdrawal one day, to taper myself off.

I don't mean to go off topic, but if you extracted it from dry pods and not from bleeding live pods, it's not opium, it concentrate of poppy straw or meconium. It's just something that bothers me when people pretend it's the same as lancing live pods. I know I'm nitpicking, but that's like calling an isopropyl alcohol extract of shake the same as Nepalese hand hash, or maple syrup the same as high fructose corn syrup. Opium smoking is truely a unique experiance, like enjoying a fine vintage wine, though if you want to replace heroin or pharms you'll be disapponted, it ain't that strong and is more of a stimulant.

QFT, xanax may be a better option, I personally think clonazepam sucks and alprazolam is one of the best benzos, second only to the now hard to find Rohypnol(fuck you date rapists:X).

this is the first time I've ever said this but I think this person is a troll.

giving me a prescription to xanax would be fucking disastrous. i need the longer acting. the funny thing is my doc is set up through my rehab facility, and this guy ASKS us addicts what meds we need. so i could get xanax if i wanted. and black out and ruin my life all the time.

yes, the dried poppy pods. whatever i extracted, it worked. i came across live pods in seattle but they weren't ready to be lanced =[

i agree with alot of responses here.

DO NOT make klonopin a daily habit if you do not have a steady supply to wean yourself off of.

If you quit taking benzos like klonopin cold turkey you could possibly wind up in the hospital or worse. You need to slowly Wean yourself off, VERY important.

I was playing with the shit for a while. I didnt even realize I was doing it alot. I stopped cold turkey and woke up in an ambulance, last thing I rmember was walking home from work, I was nowhere near my work and I had no clue how I got there, and I injured myself pretty bad I guess from the grand mal seizure I had.

Someone saw me shakin on the ground and called 911, who knows if they didnt if I might be dead.

Dont play with it, just advice from sum1 who has played with it, and got his ass played himself

That sux bro smoke sum weed or sumthin. i wuld take forty one mgs at a timw and feel a lil drunk. but even tough my tolerance was so high i could take my months script at once i never once had withdrawls so i feel in my case they r harm free. im nineteen though ptetty youbg n healthy

I have tried experimenting with benzos for my anxiety and came to the conclusion it is not worth it. Yeah they are great short term, but I just found myself constantly thinking about the next time I could take them. They will most likely leave you with bigger problems than you started with if you are not very careful.

Thanks so much for your replies everyone. You've pretty much convinced me to keep the few I have left as emergency use for panic attacks, should they ever occur.

Someone mentioned that it takes your LSD trip down a level to a 'kiddie-ride' -- I agree, that's what i've been using the kpin for -- when things get really rocky on higher doses. I do find that benzos enhance a trip on smaller doses, interestingly enough, say ~100 ug.

Someone also said to "be careful with the psychs". I don't know much about benzos, opiates, etc. -- aka the drugs covered in this forum, so I probably came across as a hopeless, ignorant newbie, but I am heavily into psychedelics and trust me, I know my shit. So no worries there, and I'm glad some of you down here appreciate their beauty.

this is the first time I've ever said this but I think this person is a troll.

As for you. What a horribly obnoxious thing to say in a thread asking legitimately for information. Sorry I don't know a lot about pharms *snip*, that's why I asked my questions. You'd probably make yourself sound like a fool trying to discuss the 2c series with me. But I'd never call you a troll.

Thanks again everyone! These lil' buddies are getting put in the safe drawer for 'emergency' situations only. :)
