The Psychoactive Substances Act - Update: Illegals R Us

What I want to know is why poppers dodged the ban?
IIRC quite a few ministers came forward and said they liked poppers and wouldn't like to see it banned.
And just like that "poppers do not fit the definitions we've set out"
So poppers aren't psychoactive? I think they're saying that because they cause mild stimulation indirectly, in which case many drugs should still be legal.
Or it's just a case of Parliament banning what they don't understand and keeping what they do understand legal.

Semantics. Whoever thinks that wotever-nitrate they use as the active ingredient (as I havn't bought any in ages. Apart from providing assistance to my ex partner and mines 'intimacy' my only real use for them has been when I'm out, erm, pursuing my hobbies.) - is not psychoactive is using the wrong hole for talking. They have permitted them as a member of parliament enjoys using them, and has used a technical loophole regarding their method of action to keep them exempted. As long as they have access to the poisons they use and enjoy then then screw the rest of the UK. Like I have pointed out many times - only criminals are qualified to handle and control the supply of anything that may have risks attached to its use.

Anybody who is able to reduce the harm caused by drugs significantly is counterproductive so as to ensure that enough lives are unnecessarily sacrificed in service of fulfilling a prophecy that has no basis and is illogical to anyone with at least one working brain cell, and facts cannot be allowed to interfere with a minority groups 'standards'. I suppose that I need to include a dvd style disclaimer that these are my personal thoughts and in no way necessarily reflect those of my colleagues or Bluelight as an organisation.

There were lots of arguments coming forward saying that poppers didnt fit in with the ban on NPSs...in that - while mind altering - they are largely used by the (predominately) gay community for a different (physically practical) purpose (ie loosening muscles for anal intercourse).
I'm not saying i have an opinion either way - but one criticism of the bill (when it contained provisions for banning amyl) was that it was a ban on unschedules "psychoactive drugs" - as opposed to a ban on products that - for one reason or another related to people's pleasure.
I suppose sexual pleasure - even in (previously considered) "deviant" forms - are more protected in law/socially-considered legislation than drugs like mephedrone, mxe, 3-fpm, 1p-LSD et al.
This is just from an article i read a few months back, by Dr Nutt iirc.

Curious though....are nitrous oxide bulbs facing a ban? Defining "recreational drugs" is impossible; some are medicines, some are...useful for relaxing sphincter muscles, some are good for carbonating drinks (or whatever legit use n2o has?) - some are good for filling cigarette lighters, others are, uh, plant food, apparently.

Reactionary legislation, which isn't surprising to me in the slightest.
 
Not quite. I'm sure the 'pink lobby', along with the likes of Crispin Blunt, had some kind of influence, but ultimately it was the intervention of the ACMD, who found that poppers would not fall within even the broadest interpretation of the Act:

Absolutely, how can you appear to represent a population so alienated from their own lives of privilege other than by ''following the herd' via the chain of bullshit from a gutter press that does the same thing, by highlighting the 5 or 6 problems these each individual material of this type cause?

I hope people take the time to watch the general presentation David Nutt was giving at various venues about 2 years ago - they are available on the internet but the general content is the same between each lecture and the section regarding the 'deaths' caused by mephedrone is particularly infuriating but typical of this well established method of propaganda.

PS Spacejunk - I doubt i need to tell you this, its just a jog for your memory - n2o is used widely in medicine as an ultra short acting analgesic - particularly in emergency care and in maternity

So is n2o used for whipping cream? "Cream chargers" i think we used to have to call them when purchasing :)

Still used in midwifery (or whatever you call the childbirth field of medicine?) i believe? And yeah, dentists.

But i was thinking of what we aussies call "nangs". Little metal bulbs filled with compresses nitrous oxide.
They escaping the ban in the UK, or not - anyone know?

Yes i know of it i just have not seen it used. Mind you i am not an ED nurse or a NICU nurse so that may be why. I have friends who work in both ED and NICU. I will ask them if they still use it. They may well do. I have never encountered it though outside of the dentist or the whipped cream machine.
 
I find it quite curious that my main vendor has reduced their prices on everything in the past couple of months but they have not reduced the prices for mexedrone. I thought they would surely be trying to dump that shite? Maybe it is, as some have speculated, that they're using it to bulk out what remaining compounds they do have.

Not banned, but shopkeepers are being given guidelines to help them single out the whipped cream addicts from the regular druggies apparently.

Can't believe there was fuck all 3fpm available early this morning - I found one vendor I was able to order 2 fuckin measly g from, but after I'd Spunked me cash on them, I started getting emails saying they suddenly had stock again. Bunch of cunts. Be glad when it's all banned cos I was checking out DN markets the other night and fuck me... So much choice of good shit!!!!

FUBAR +Tor. The mind boggles. If you go down the crystal meth path for your stimulant fuelled fuck fests make sure you get a pipe and learn how to modify a lighter. Dont be wasting that stuff on foil. A meth bong is even better. Apparently SHM made a thread with detailed instructions for both.
