I wasn't sure where to put this or if there was already a topic covering this, so feel free to delete/move/etc this thread if needed. Thanks!

Potentiation -

When two substances are taken together and one of them intensifies the action of the other.

Synergism -

When two substances are taken together that are similar in action and an effect exaggerated out of proportion to that of each one taken separately at the given dose occurs.*

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Potentiation/Synergism:

Alcohol
sodium bicarbonate (potentiation)
GABAergic drugs (potentiation/synergistic)
other CNS depressants (synergistic)

Barbiturates
other CNS depressants (synergistic)

Benzodiazepines
cimetidine (potentiation)
white grapefruit juice (potentiation)
GABAergic drugs (potentiation)
other CNS depressants (synergistic)

Nonbenzodiazepines
other CNS depressants (synergistic)

Stimulants
Meth/amphetamines: sodium bicarbonate (potentiation), other CNS stimulants (synergistic), 5-HTP (potentiation), L-DOPA (potentiation), SNRIs/SSRIs (synergistic), MAOIs (synergistic) [note: very dangerous! not recommended]

Opiates
cimetidine (potentiation)**
white grapefruit juice (potentiation)**
other CNS depressants (synergistic)

*for simplicity, i will use this definition and leave out the one for synergy of speedballesque combinations such as: alcohol+meth, caffeine+opiates, ad infinitum

**I'm not sure which or if all opiates are potentiated by these..so feel free to add what you know about this

Just because theres gonna be alot of newbies reading this as well, I tihnk its good to point out that while yes these things listed can make the high feel stronger or better, it shoud be pointed out that alot of them are dangerous, and you should do more research on the combo before deciding to try it, especailly mixing depressants with other depressants

Grapefruit juice raises blood levels of 70% of all drugs.

MAO inhibitors should be used with extreme caution.

yea a few of them are dangerous in high doses. i made sure i said MAOIs were very hazardous... maybe i should put a disclaimer, but i'm not sure. a lot of these combos are fairly safe... it is when taking bigger-than-average doses that things can get messy, but i hope that is common knowledge

mods, let me know if anything should be changed/added. maybe something about dosage...

thanks guys. good point :)

yea maybe that's an estimate but individual metabolism varies quite a bit too. i drink grapefruit juice daily but i have no blood pressure or heart issues

how dangerous is soda loading with amps? i've been doing it a lot with MDA (molly shards) and d-amphetamine the last few months. it makes the drugs last about twice as long (no joke) and feels much smoother..less crashing etc

i'm mainly curious too cause i have periods of time where my urine is colorless (like water) for up to a week after soda loading, and i haven't even been taking any drugs during that time. i drink a decent amount of water so maybe i'm just highly alkaline from all the baking soda.. but i want to be sure there isn't something else going on

I'm quite surprised that Nicotine is rarely mentioned for Stimulants..
In my extensive experience with stimulants, Nicotine is THE best potentiator.

if it's a stimulant it must be a really mild one cause i've smoked an entire pack in one sitting (with no tolerance) and didn't get any effect from it except a slight headache

on the other hand, caffeine does the same thing to me. i get a headache then crash about 10 minutes after consumption

I think my list may be useful to make people more aware of these drug interactions for harm reduction
