Bluelight Crew
we were supposed to meet outside a bookstore, love at first sight, looking at dark sky above darker circles under darkest eyes. we were supposed to meet on cobblestone roads in italy as i rushed over to step on your cigarette since you were barefoot with sensitive skin. we were supposed to meet while arguing over something mundane that only strangers argue about before getting martinis and head. we were supposed to meet in front of a motel, rushed and turned on, cheating on our spouses because affairs are always so passionate. we were supposed to meet as children in the sandbox, our mouths too small to fit the words that come too easily to us now.
we were supposed to dance naked under the sun in 1969 feeling stolen and discovered at the same time, making eyes at each other through our long hair. we were supposed to meet in a grocery store, reaching for the same can of corn. we were supposed to meet in chinatown, racing uphill looking for a parking spot, giving up and following one another around the city until all that was left to do was pull over and kiss.
i was the rebellion in every speedometer and you were the speed limit.
we're there still, in one of time's coat pockets. meeting again and again. infinite and oblivious, we shake hands, introduce ourselves. "hello, i know everything about you but i'm not sure why."
we were supposed to meet. and we did. i am fourteen years old still holding onto my first valentine. but i know, i know this is exactly how things are supposed to be.
this is exactly how things are supposed to be.
and that is why they are. i love you, oh god, i love you
