The pharmacist has your ecstasy ready

it's this whole perception that is the problem, they are not wasting the money from their point of view (not to mention that it is wealth redistribution (us->them if you will) to begin with), they are rich, they do any drug or any other thing they want, law serves the wealthy, it was designed that way, the usa is doing exactly what it was designed to do, the constitution is the most cleverly crafted piece of pr to wit

why do you think the pharma cos i mean fda is so against med mj? the war on drugs, the war on terror, the prison economy, the ability to infringe on the rights of the other 90%, don't you get it man?

you wanna make a difference? forget what you know, become one of them and then see how you feel about the world, real change starts from within

That makes sense. Laws are created by Lawyers (you have to pass the bar to be a Senator last I heard). They scheduled DMT which is in all of us already, hense, we are all already guilty. Let the police state begin.

That would be awesome if it actually happened! It seems like the most logical solution to decrease the crime rate... the black market would suffer and the real criminals would be out of buisness, innocent people wouldnt go to jail for just having a few pills on them, purity and doses of drugs would be the same and diseases caused by useing dirty needles would decrease. I mean what about all this bullshit fake heroin going around killing dozens of people in America?! If the govt. regulated heroin and other drugs shit like that wouldnt happen. Prohibition didnt work, have we learned nothing? I mean if the govt really cared about the drug users in their country they would admit that they were wrong, regulate drugs, and stop this "war on drugs" that has turned into more of a battle of pride if anything...

(singing) BLAME CANADA,BLAME CAN A DA !

what they legalized drugs cause controlling it is better thatn letting people say hey I can barely find this drug so now that I have i'll try to overdose on it and be cause it is now a controlled substance i will get cleaner drugs because the government wouldn't let them put rat poisoning in it

I LOVE CANADA (singing) O CANADA......

Sadly, the US government would severly bully any country that embarks upon such an ambititous plan as legalizing drugs, especially if it is one within the western hemisphere, as we sadly think of that as our hemisphere (thanks the Monroe Doctrine!). Just look at how we bullied mexico from even decriminalizing.

Luckily, Europe is more immune to the pressure of the ONDCP and the DEA and will probably be the first region to go this way. Once that happens it is inevitable that it happens here, but as someone above said, I wouldnt be surprised if it wasnt for anither 50 years

" all these storys about dreams, when will it be a reality "

Well the way I see it is - the ppl who make the laws and legislation's are only going to be in power for the next 10 years MAX and after that "our" generation will be in power, thats when things will change.

The reasoning behind this is "our" generation is much more accepting of change and all things different - I dont know anyone in my age group (generation) that is offended, appalled or totally against drug use (thats users and non users)

just my 2c

fuck the conservatives only one the most seats because people were sick of the liberals but they didnt want to go tooo left and vote for the ndp. I hate canada right now.

Hah!

Dream on.

Remember that whole "decriminalizing marijuana" thing? Yeah well I think your local joe-canadian policeman hasn't heard of it yet. Or heard of it being struck down again. Or come back. Or re-debated. Whatever, it doesnt matter anyways.

You think Harper will let you buy smack from the pharmacy?

The conservatives have money. The conservatives can buy their way into keeping laws that keep them in power. I am personally SHOCKED how they did not criminalize needle-exchanges yet!

Dream on...

Even if it doesn;t happen so, the point is, the dialog has started. Its not just some fringe group calling for legalization. The wheels are turning, and ultimatly this prohibition will be stopped.

As far as legalizing- follow the money.

The big drug companies have enough money to influence politics. They don't see any large profits in legalizing these drugs, or else they would already be lobbying for legalization. They make more money selling prescriptions to help people break their drug habits, especially when someone is court mandated to get the help. So the drug companies have a vested interest into keeping things as they are.

Marijuana OTOH, if legalized wouldn't be controlled by drug companies, but more likely by the tobacco companies. And the tobacco companies have been steadily losing their lobbying abilities for the past 30 years. Politicians now don't want to be seen with anyone from the tobacco industry, so tobacco industry has zero pull anymore.

Everything political boils down to where the money is. And the drug war is no difference. There is more money to be made (by both law and criminals) by keeping the status quo :(

Here's the main reason the US is probably going to be one of the last countries to do this:

They would have to empty the jails and prisons of all the people in there for possession and most likely distribution. If they don't make it retroactive, the courts would be FLOODED with cases by the ACLU and the like. And besides, the drug war is a great way for them to funnel money to areas that wouldn't normally get any.

And, as far as law enforcement being against it, that statement is false. There are numerous ex-law enforcement and current law enforcement personnel that advocate the lifting of prohibition. They see first hand how much of a failure it is.
