I remember in the wire I heard Mcnulty say something like "...we can use the patriot act..." and I though how wrong that was given the patriot acts supposedly anti terror stance

One look at the graph above, from New York magazine's very thorough 9/11 encyclopedia, shows that those who decried the Patriot Act's civil liberties violations may have been right. The graph depicts the numbers of "sneak-and-peek warrants," those that allow authorities to search private property without immediately notifying the target of the investigation, issued under the Patriot Act from 2006 to 2009: 15 for terrorism, compared to more than 1,600 for everyday drug busts in America's tremendously misguided "war on drugs."

Exactly as expected. Nice post, but wish it could be different.

Obama was supposedly against both the Patriot Act and Drug War...was being the operative word. Not only has he ramped up the busts on MMJ growers (and pretty much everyone else), he also renewed the most controversial section of the Patriot Act for another 4 years despite serious concerns posed by numerous senate/congress people. Oh, and about 99% of the thinking population. But w/e. :[
 
Renewing the patriot act was unacceptable. I was pissed about how fucked up the health care bill was, but I don't understand how anyone can support Obama at this point. Of course, he will win another term anyway because our elections are staged. Horray!
 
OBAMA is not the enemy duh; but he has is surrounded by many people who are the enemy, and they have alot of power, so he has to be extra careful. he wants to do what's best for everyone but he still has to win the popularity contests if he is to do so. not to mention he's the first president to actually be honest about his extensive drug use

^All politicians are two faced, the system kinda forces them to be that way because if they want to win they have to cater to private interests and to the public to win votes. At the end of the day it's hard for a politician to say and do what they want when they have to constantly balance numerous differing interests with their personal views. The result is a really terrible bunch of politicians controlling the country.

I think Obama is the best president we've had in a while. That's not saying much and I don't think he's a good president really but I don't see how he's more two faced then any other recent (since the '70s) president has been. All presidents lie, I don't see why people are so astounded at the fact that Obama does too.

I've never seen those pics either. In Obama's autobiography he talks about smoking pot and doing coke when he had the money. Clinton said "he didn't inhale" so Obama's the first president to come close to honesty about his drug use. The main reason is that his autobiography was written over 10 years before he ran for president.

Obama fucked us he is not going to do anything about the drug war it is status quo. On the other hand the repubs might be crazy enough to ramp up the drug war so honestly I think Obama is the lesser of the two evils. The patriot act is here no one is gonna fight against it and risk looking soft on terror no matter how it is being used in reality. Thats the problems its easy to give rights away but its nigh impossible to get them back. In fact I would bet money that the organizers of the occupy walstreet movement are under warrantless goverment survielance as we speak.
 
I am honestly shocked that some people here are supporting Obama.
He has lied repeatedly.
He has broken promises repeatedly.
He is weak - spineless, even - and has allowed conservatives to lead the discussion.
He has accomplished almost nothing, apart from opening huge new sections of sea and land to oil exploration, and renewing portions of the Patriot Act and Bush's tax cuts for the rich.
If you still think he is a good president, I cannot trust your political judgment in any way, and I feel that you must have conveniently ignored 99% of what he has done, promises he has broken, and you are focusing on some tiny thing that is your personal interest.

For the record, he even fucked up health care, destroying the public option, effectively ruining the whole purpose of it to protect the interests of the huge companies, wasting more than a year during which he could have ended the war on drugs, helped the homeless, changed education, stopped the two wars, etc.

Biggest failure ever?

I'll do you one better and say that I'm shocked anyone supports any Democrat or Republican at all anymore.
 
If a presidential candidate told you the truth, you wouldn't vote for him. That's why they are all 2-faced. Blame yourselves.

ya your right. Its all the voters fault for believing obama when he said hed close to GITMO and he'd get rid of most parts of the PATRIOT Act. Oh ya and how he promised hed stop the feds from waging a war on MMJ dispensaries. Uh huh all the voters fault.... FUCK OBAMA either he cant or wont change the corrupt nation (READ: corporation) known as the USA.
 
i agree that you indeed can not trust a republican or a democrat. the way our two major political parties fight and bicker over who has more control is ruining this country. i dont know if there is a better way to do it but our political system is fucked and something needs to change
