Zoey - that would be great for you, you are so sweet, the people would love you in either work environment.
Keep sleeping well. It does make a huge difference!

Thank you Bluefrogger<3

I was offered a job at the dr office a long time ago. They look like they could use the help still. Most of the people there are interns or medical assistants. I'll keep my eyes open on this place. I just worry about sitting and lifting a lot both reek havoc on my back.

Hazey~I have a PM specialist and an Orthopedic Surgeon but not a Rheumatologist. My last PM doc saw me for 5 months with a copay of 40 bucks just to walk in the door. The 6th month I walked in and was presented with a $700 bill. I said, "What is that? I've paid all my copays." They said, "We don't accept your insurance and haven't been contracted with them in over a year." WHAAAT?? I asked them why they didn't tell me that over the phone when I scheduled my FIRST appt and told them my ins name and ID #. She proceeded to lie saying she did. I said if she had then why did she proceed to take my card at my first appt, make a copy of it, CALL the provider for my copay amt, and charge me for said amt for 5 months?! I had to leave with no prescriptions and the threat of collections and a lawsuit thru their "attorney". When I finally had enough I called and said that I would be the one filing a civil suit and asked for their attorney's information. All of the sudden they never even had an attorney and my personal information and $700 balance had mysteriously disappeared from their system! Pm docs can be some shady mo-fos. Beware their sneaky billing!

Zoey~ that'd be amazing haha! Fingers crossed she at least got laid last night!

I'm very sorry to hear that samsonite.

I got cut off my pain medication today because I got a cortisone shot. Now I have to wait two weeks until my surgeon will consider putting me back on medication, and I got ANOTHER pt order. That makes 5 orders and 3 cortisone injections, a supartz injection, and an extensive knee surgery in less than 2 years! *frustrated*

What? Why? Are they wanting you to have sensation to gauge the injection? I had to do that. If you have no improvement after 3 rounds of cortisone injections you shouldn't be bothered about it again. 3 seems to be the magic number. And 5 orders of pt is beyond excessive unless of course you find it beneficial. That is very frustrating :(

Not to stray off subject, but do you know if carisoprodol is available in Canada? Is it sedating or hard on the stomach anything, and what are the side effects from it? I get treatment with massage and chiropractic, now that I go I wouldn't trade it for the world. The reason I ask about the Soma is because the relief I get from treatment is short term and it would be nice to have something like that to help prolong the good effects until I get more fit and stretch out my muscles since apparently some are short. I tried diazepam before because I figured get two birds with one stone (anxiety+muscle tension) but I found it didn't work that well for the anxiety and didn't kill muscle pain from the tension so I decided it wasn't what fit for me.

Well I ended up switching back to my regular clonazepam (which I take the same amount but not regularly like I used to, so that makes me happy to not be totally dependant.) because diazepam didn't work good for anxiety and I had a bad experience that I hope wasn't affected by medicine. I am exercizing more now and am trying to get my body back into shape but sometimes the hot water bottle just doesn't cut it. I don't want to take anything if I don't have to since I stopped taking most all of my medicines except the Dilaudid after the bad experience on my own terms. If someone has tips for muscle tension release I'd appreciate it.

Luckily I have insurance to pay for this stuff or I'd be dead broke with loans and credit to pay back since my car crash. I hope this doesn't sound like a rant-sometimes life is very difficult when you're trying to do the right thing.

I know what you mean Zoey! It's so hard to find a position that you like and is in your field that can acommodate your needs as well as theirs. It's especially hard when you're first getting back to work and you don't want to jump in over your head and do too much and end up running yourself into the ground. I feel for ya sister.

Scott, sorry if this has already been asked but where is most of your tension? Is it mainly focused in one area or is it an all over muscle tension/ache?

I'm not sure about the availability in Canada. IME Soma does not cause the stomach issues and reflux that many others do. It is a great muscle relaxer but if you have a history of drug abuse that you are abstaining from, I would advise against it. It is a rather enjoyable muscle relaxer, as it is euphoric and will make you nod in high enough doses. Again this is IME.

Yeah isn't it a pro-drug for mepbromate or something? Some GABAergic? And nah, I don't have a drug abuse history, just experimented a lot around college, haha. No addictions though on a serious note.

Thank you for asking Sam. It's actually in my neck (c-spine) and down through the thoracolumbar region and the pain reffers to the sides such as shoulder blades and my lats, but the pain is stemming from the spine itself as I have nerves pinched in 6 different facet joints in the vertebrae. Also, the curvature of my c-spine has been thrown forward and almost straightened instead of nicely curving backward to sit in the center of your body/shoulders; mine is kinda forward infront of my chest. It's not really enough to notice by looking, but it's huge when you see the x-rays. Luckily I didn't crush any discs, but if I hadn't have intervened with chiro, eventually my bones would have spurred and fused together like that.
Sorry if that's more than what you need, I just wanted to explain where it stems from.

Well in that case, I call soma the The Holy Grail of muscle relaxers ;) I take it regularly and wouldn't trade it for anything. The only complaint I have is that there are no ER versions :) I metabolize it super fast so I would need about 8+ a day to be spasm-free. Be careful of the feel good feelings bc I actually prefer it over opiates in that respect. Keep us posted if you get some and share your experience with it.

Samson, that is the most offensive way to run a professional pain management clinic (not so offensive in pill mill places) and sounds like a horrifying experience for all his/her patients. I hope you can find the care you desire (I finally did with this PM Doctor, #6 since 2009) and deserve.

Entheo: When I first started with back surgery and became a full time chronic pain person, I of course wen through all the treatments and mini-procedures with my 1st PM. I acted deferential and let the doc do almost all the talking, and went with everything he wanted and prescribed. I ended up with 5 epidurals in 14 months with no benefit to my back and seriously fucked with my diabetes (as cortisone raises blood sugar) and finally was given a rhizotomy which caused me to experience constant muscle spasm and achy pain. I now had a new problem on top of sciatic and disc issues. I found out later that the surgery center I was sent to for all these gimmicky procedures was actually co-owned by PM Doc, something he conveniently forgot to mention.

What I am trying to say to you is that you know your body especially when you are in constant pain in certain areas. I knew after the 2nd epidural that they did not work but I held back saying anything because I had a major opiate habit before the pain, and I tried to be deferential to keep the pills flowing in. And then the rhizotomy which caused me new problems. STAND UP for yourself when something the doctor is pushing on you to do multiple times despite in not working the first time or any time in the past. This specialty of medicine is, in my opinion, the most corrupted and egomaniacal off all the various specailties because the pharmaceutical industry pushes much harder on PM docs certain meds to push and the issue of "treating" pain from an asshole doc whose never been hurt a day in his life....::::end rant::::

Hope I didn't babble too much Today is one of my designated medical marijuana smoking days between PM doc who I see every 2 weeks and instead of a typical 4-weeks.

^ I greatly appreciate your post, it definitely makes me feel a bit better. The problem is that I dont go to a PM I go to a sports med clinic at the hospital I do my pt at. I see both a sports med MD that is also a certified athletic trainer (team physician for US Volleyball) and a sports ortho surgeon. They aren't really in the business of treating pain so much as treating the underlying physiological issue. I need a PM but they are so expensive and I'm picky about my doctors. I don't have thousands of dollars to waste on interviews and initial visit before I find a good doc ATM. And I still go to my sports med clinic because I used to be an athlete and I get a discount from my father working in the outpatient rehab clinic of the same hospital.

I got dropped from my meds so I could feel and tell whether or not the cortisone shot reduced my pain enough to get me through until I'm financially capable of surgery or pain management. Besides the knee, they also said my back is getting worse. I had a hip flexor tear, and they happen to attach the L4 and L5 lumbar vertibrae where my spondylolysis is located. I was told to call back in two weeks so maybe I can make it through. I'll be going cold turkey from my opies though unfortunately, while focusing on college and pt. I don't even have the money for the MRI they ordered, so I'm not sure what else they would/could do for me without invasive procedures.

That sounds horrible. That is mortifying.

I'm so sorry you are in this position.

That's a really scary thought to have this happen.

I'm so sorry.

Yes. Your right. But I would freak out if my dr told me no more pain meds!!

I nearly died when the pharmacy refused to fill it.

I just think he should of tapered you or something especially if you took them over a long period of time.

I do hope the shot worked. I hope all Your pain is relieved.

Well I won't know if the shot works until a few days have passed, but I decided that optimism is better than self pity. I've just gotta roll with the punches. It's not going to be like benzo wd so I think I can handle it as long as school and pt isn't too overwhelming. I should have at least asked to get some cyclobenzeprine or orphenadrine to taper, but I can always call back. My physicians are very caring, they just don't like to prescribe medication. They would rather fix you up than drug you up, which I can respect to a certain degree.

Wait, who got taken off which medications cold turkey?!?! That sounds dreadful.

^ It's me tri. Everything we discussed besides me benzos and butalbital for migraines. Basically soma, hydro, and tramadol are gone for half a month.
I got a cortisone shot and another pt order even though I brought up what you and I talked about last night.

Oh yeah, they didn't give me anymore topical lidocaine patches either. Damn :/

Shit I don't know. I'm giving my doc two weeks then I'm gonna have an extended visit with him. I guess the cortisone shot is being left with pain, so as to asses its independent mechanical and analgesic effects. I don't even know how I'm going to be feeling in a few days, I hope I can skate by as smooth and comfortable as possible.

I want those local anesthetic effects so i can get back in good shape.
