the only people who use drugs wear phat pants and hoodies.

No amount of listening up will make much of a difference :p It certainly wouldn't have to me back then. Bad things only happen to other people, right?

Perhaps those of us who are older (ha ha) should be looking to 'mentor' the new faces?

Oh, i forgot.. thats kinda part of HR too...

sorry, as a 37 year old successfully self employed non wastrel, sometimes I get sad to see comments like the above.

Theres no reason that it ever has to get old, or tired. But 'kids these days' go out too hard too fast too soon and you lose your shiny happy magic very very fast when you do... :(

Well, thats my "old fucker" 2 cents worth anyway

PLUR

Well the scene definately has a high turnover. People are usually in and out within a year or two, it just takes so much out of you. You go through the honeymoon period of 'omg pills hard dance raving!' where it seems like the most amazing thing ever. You keep hitting party after party, weekend after weekend, the amount of drugs you're taking goes up and up but the amount of enjoyment you're getting out of it starts slowly going down and down. Eventually after a few years you hit the point where you get sick of the sketchiness and the bad comedowns and being broke all the time, and it seems like the same clubs are playing the same music to the same people on the same drugs, week in week out.

Some keep going, and they're the ones who seem to end up at 35 with a shitty job, fried brain and nothing to look forward to but partying with people a decade younger than them, some manage to cut back and go out once every so often, with or without drugs, and keep enjoying it for what it is. But most drop out of the scene, become jaded, hang up the phatties, put the candy in the back of their drawer and move on with life.

yeah high turnover is right.
i met this kid at transmission last year. he'd pretty much just turned 18, he was off guts, he'd had a pill..
saw him a few times out, always pulling a hard gurn.

saw him late last year out at a club. spoke to him. in the space of 6 months he's now droppin 6 in a night.

then all of a sudden i dont see him out anymore.

and the whole thing about most dropping out of the scene. i go from time to time, then go every week, then dont go for ages.
i've just turned 25 and i'm already older than 99% of the people out

i'm really preferring crankin the music at home and hitting the acid or the speed.
nothing like tripping balls at home with your housemates, cranking skazi and making your neighbours hate you :)

could be just a sign of my age. but i cant even be arsed going out this weekend, and think i'm gonna stay at home with a mirror, a rolled up note, a suspicious bag of whitey yellow powder and a copy of resident evil 5.

Pretty much. It took me about 3 months to go from a single pill a night to 3 - 5 pills, 1/4 or 1/2 G of gear, and whatever assortment of acid/K/weed was available, every single time I went out, and it just went further downhill from there. And I was pretty tame compared to some of the people in our scene.

I think it's an extension of how much Australian youth culture glorifies excess. It's the same problem with drinking, it's not enough to just get a high and enjoy it, you have to get as smashed as possible, then have some more. It's always pushing the boundry, taking it to the next level 'well if that dose felt good, double it must feel even better!' This whole culture of get as fuck as possible, for as long as possible, on as many substances as possible, and if you can remember how much fun you had you didn't try hard enough. It's a very dangerous attitude to take drugs with.

Yep, seeing these trashed babies when I'm out kinda bothers me a bit too.. cos lets face it, the faster they turn over the weaker the scene as a whole becomes....

oh, and the safety and health thing. yeah, that.

And I say babies with absolutely no disrespect to all the younger people out there who could theoretically BE MY CHILDREN!!

now thats scary.

Haha thats exactly what i do :) except i play GTA4 or maffia games, cant wait for godfather 2:)

The 'no lad clothing rule' is the worst seeing as how I really enjoy my tNs and my polo shirts, and i'm no lad. It should just be 'no lads' it isn't hard to pick them out.

Phat pants and hoodies? No lad clothing rule? I didn't realize there were codes out there.

From a fem point of view I am out of place in clubs as I don't wear the super short skirts/dresses and stiletto heels......went out for a bit on the weekend and joked that I didn't look the part, when dance partner said "If you were wearing that when I turned up, I'd turn around and walk right out"

Last time I wore 6' heels and a clingy dress was where I'd make the $$$ dancing!!!
