Opioids The one unbearable W/d symptom - everlasting diarrhea

Okay, so I'm about to 'kick' an H/methadone habit I picked up again (after being clean for almost 6 months). I've only been using for about 3 months again and I can handle most of the typical w/d symptoms because I've, unfortunately, detoxed more times than I care to admit. The one thing I just cannot take is the diarrhea.

I've used immodium in the past and that works for a short time but honestly, even when I was clean for 6 months, my GI system never went back to normal. I feel like a big part of my relapse was due to the fact that I just couldn't take that shit anymore! No pun intended.

If anyone has suggestions/remedies, 'natural' or otherwise, they would be greatly appreciated. I know I can't be the only one with this problem. Thanks in advance.

It is indeed the shittiest withdrawal symptom (pun obviously intended).

In regards to your GI system not being back to normal do you mean that you have diarrhea and then its like you're back on opiates after you've detoxed or you just stay with having diarrhea like you were in withdrawals the whole time, even after withdrawals are over?

Edit:

You're not the only one with this problem, its happened to me off and on for a while now, if you're indeed talking about your GI system being stuck in "withdrawal mode"...

I just try to eat more constipating foods (crazy, I know, coming from an opiate user), and using Immodium.

Other than that I don't really know what to say... I've never had any problems while using Immodium, usually it makes more constipated than I wanted to be.

first of all stay away from the immodium. Go to vitamin store or whole foods and buy NAC (n acetylcysteine) and Pearls probiotics. You will thank me later. The NAC will really make you feel like a King on so many levels. Really BUY this!! I live by that shit. The probiotics on the other hand will normalize your stomach while giving an added benefit of constipation. Probiotics will also enable your stomach to once again extract nutrients from the food and harden your stool. next, eat LOTS of bread and carbs. I know how you feel bro, you feel like its going to last forever and never go away. Dont worry, in 2 to 3 weeks youll be cool. Just remember all the bullshit you have endured during&after your withdrawals before you think about popping, sniffing, or injecting another opiate. also excercise helps a lot with the diaherrea believe it or not. buy ya please please listen to me when i say get some NAC and take at least 500mg a day (1 tab). As soon as you take it for the first time you will really feel its magical powers. I recommend it to all of my friends who smoke or drink, and they all live by it also.

Exactly how much loperamide were you taking? For most people IME it's just a matter of taking enough.

The fact that you were experiencing gi issues well after the physical symptoms normally pass leads me to believe there may be an different underlying cause. I'd get it checked out.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm new but i feel very welcome! Equip'd- i'm gonna go to the vitamin store first thing monday. and phrozen- unfortunately gi problems run in my family (colon cancer, ulcerative colitis) so i will be scheduling a colonoscopy soon. I've been dreading the day i have to get one, but its time i think. hey, at least they give you fentanyl and versed!

The chills/sweats constantly reminding me how dopesick I am are the 2nd worst. Eventually there's nothing left to shit out on day 2, plus IC Bentyl helps. Clonidine barely help the chills/sweats. And the only thing that helps the ABSOLUTE worst sympton, the agonizing pain coursing throughout my body, focusing on my bad knee, is opiates.

Dopesickness is proof of a Creator.

If you can, go to your physician or a clinic and explain you just stopped taking methadone and the GI upset is simply intolerable. ( I too get this w/d symptom and hate Hate HATE it!)... Most doctors will prescribe you something called Lomotil with is a far stronger than the Loperimide in Immodium. There is an even stronger version of Lomotil called Motofen that will certainly stop incessant GI upset.

That's a good point, however some doctors may not script this because it is technically an opiate and is a controlled substance...
