Oh and in addition to still allowing for some abortions (or murders, if you're of that mindset), I don't even think that would hurt abortion #'s, people would just need to drive to a different place - a drive isn't likely to be a big factor when someone's decided on an abortion. If the county idea didn't reduce the total # of abortions (and perhaps even if it did), then how is that really a compromise at all? I don't think the 'pro-lifers' really care where the abortions are being performed. Rather, I think that, since they view it as murder, they're only going to be happy when the government agrees with them and categorizes an abortion with murder. In all honesty I think any 'compromises' in this arena, if feasible, wouldn't really bother choicers, they'd bother lifers. If you honestly believed that the split second a sperm touches an egg, a human life is now existing, then it's murder to you - until the government completely, universally criminalizes it, the gov is essentially still allowing murder, and that's no compromise.
(oh, I didn't even mention the ridiculous logistical challenges behind your proposal of a county by county legislation, how obnoxious would that be!?)
