Snoop Dogg Arrested on Weapon, Drug Charges

Fox News
Wednesday, November 29, 2006

BURBANK, Calif. — Rapper Snoop Dogg was arrested Tuesday for investigation of illegally possessing a handgun and drugs as he left NBC Studios after performing on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," police said.

The 35-year-old rapper, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, and two members of his entourage were arrested around 6 p.m. after a search of his Diamond Bar home and car, Sgt. Kevin Grandalski said.

Police seized a handgun and some illegal drugs, Grandalski said. He did not have details.

The sergeant said the rapper was arrested for investigation of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possessing cocaine, transporting marijuana and having a false compartment in his vehicle, Grandalski said.

"He was in a car pulling out of the studio" when police stopped him, said Donald Etra, the rapper's attorney.

Broadus was booked for investigation of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and was expected to make the $60,000 bail and be released early Wednesday, Etra said at about 1 a.m. Wednesday, some seven hours after the arrest.

Two acknowledged gang members who are associates of Broadus also were taken into custody, Grandalski said.

Michael Mingo, 33, of Lakewood, was arrested for investigation of possessing burglary tools and Lovell Polk, 36, of Moreno Valley, was arrested for an outstanding warrant, Grandalski said. He did not know the nature of the warrant.

The arrests stemmed from an investigation that followed the rapper's Oct. 26 arrest at Bob Hope Airport here after airport police said they found a gun and marijuana in his car, Grandalski said.

"Additional follow-up investigation led detectives to obtaining the search warrant," the sergeant said. He did not have details.

No charges have been filed in that case but Broadus has a Dec. 12 court appearance for an arraignment.

Etra said the rapper also has a Dec. 4 arraignment in Orange County following his Sept. 27 arrest for investigation of carrying a deadly weapon at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana.

Security officers said they found a collapsible baton in the entertainer's carry-on luggage. The rapper told deputies at the time of his arrest that the baton was a prop for a movie.

The 35-year-old father of three says he has no problem about his children getting involved with firearms and illegal substances too.

He added: “I have no worries about my kids. They have my money if they want it but I want them to face their own world.

“If drugs and guns are a part of that world, I know they can handle it. They get that from me. Every month or so I take them down to the hood, where I came from. They see what it’s like.”

DESPITE LEGAL TROUBLES, GP STOP STILL ON SNOOP DOGG'S SKED
The Daily Herald-Tribune
January 5, 2007

Despite some ongoing legal problems in the United States, Snoop Dogg will still be completing the Canadian leg of his North American tour.

The rapper, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, will appear at the Crystal Centre in Grande Prairie on Jan. 16.

Snoop Dogg has been arrested and charged on drugs and weapons charges three times between September and November.

The most recent charges came Nov. 28, minutes after taping a performance at The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

A spokesman for the Burbank Police Department said authorities executed a search warrant as Snoop Dogg and a posse of friends and bodyguards were leaving the NBC studio. The roadside stop shut down traffic for hours, according to news reports. The search turned up marijuana, cocaine, a firearm and a false compartment in a car.

Snoop Dogg was booked, and bail set at $60,000.

Last month, a California-based judge has agreed to postpone Snoop Dogg's arraignment on the latest charge until Jan. 26. A waiver the rapper signed will allow him to skip most early hearings, leaving him free to tour as scheduled.

Snoop Detained in Sweden on Drugs Suspicion
TMZ
Mar 12th 2007

Snoop Dogg was held by police in Stockholm last night on suspicion of using illegal drugs, after police stopped him and he was "deemed to be under the influence of narcotics." TMZ spoke to a press officer in the Stockholm police department who said that Snoop -- real name Calvin Broaddus -- was "arrested;" Snoop's lawyer says that "Mr. Broaddus" was neither arrested nor charged.

The rapper was on his way to a party after his Sunday night concert with Diddy when, as a police spokesman told the AP, the car the rapper was riding in was stopped, and Snoop and "a female companion" were suspected of using drugs and were detained at a Stockholm police station.

"He underwent some tests that will now be sent away for analysis," said the spokesman. "In two to three weeks, we'll know if he was on something." Swedish cops didn't specify what narcotics may have been involved.

Sweden, which has some of Europe's strictest drug laws, has also spelled trouble for fellow musicians Pete Doherty and Axl Rose, who were both fined last year for various run-ins with the law. Snoop, for his part, was arrested three times last fall on drug and weapons infractions, all in the Los Angeles area.

He was arrested Oct. 26 by Burbank police at Bob Hope Airport on suspicion of transportation of a controlled substance. Burbank police later discovered a gun at his home.

If convicted, he faces up to four years in state prison.

"These were changes we fully expected," said Snoop Dogg's attorney, Donald Etra. "They will be dealt with in court tomorrow. The matter will be resolved tomorrow."

The rapper was convicted in 1990 of cocaine possession and charged with gun possession after a 1993 traffic stop. He pleaded guilty in exchange for three years' probation and a promise to make public-service announcements against violence.
